I haven't learned anything new mechanically for a long time until I messed around with Kronovi's strong backboard clear pack and realized you have to jump to get those strong cross field clears. I'd always just tried bumping in to the ball and you have to hit it at the precise millisecond after it bounces from the wall to get any power, but if you jump (with no directional flip) just as the ball hits you have a huge window for getting a strong clear.

Also, they started banning people again this season pretty strongly, so report away.

Afaik it's keyword searching bots which do the banning.

I used to get messages every time I logged in that someone I had reported had been banned, then it stopped about 6-7 months ago and I didn't receive any until this patch, now I get one every time I log in.

i'm still high gold/low plat. My mechanical skills aren't great, for instance I can't really do anything off the wall or anything super fancy aerial wise. But I'm pretty good at 50/50's and breaking up plays. I just make sure to be in position to never miss guaranteed goals and my shots are pretty accurate. If I want to go farther I probably need to start working on my mechanics because there are shots I know I 100% could make if I could aerial better but I just don't go for them.

In plat there are so many goals from just hanging in the back field and smacking crappy clears right back into their net.

I did an experiment and climbed from bronze 1 to gold in solo standard so I know I'm where I should be. But man I'm never doing that again.

so in solo standard I've now climbed from bronze I to high gold and learned a lot of things along the way:

- good, centered balls just straight up win games. I have mastered the near-undefendable (at this rank) set up shot of launching a ball into the corner at the right spot which lobs it directly above the enemy goal. No one at these ranks can defend it.

- learning how to defend above mentioned shot

- rotating to the back field and easily punting everything back to the enemy side with strong hits. if they have double or triple committed and it goes over all of their heads (happens a lot at this rank) you have an easy break away and score situation.


My saving ability sucks a lot, I'm more of a striker, but just controlling the ball throughout the game, from up front or in the back, and going for passes (rather than trying to get a perfect shot into 2 defenders) towards the higher ends of this rank spectrum is winning me almost every game. I went on a 15 game win streak the other night.

I'm also feeling like I'm waaaay faster than most of the people I play with so that's kind of helping me right now. I was able to rotate on my own stuff against crappier teams in silver but it's becoming harder to do that now.

man, you sure enjoy torture. Solo standard is aids. I dunno what it is either, even playing standard when you end up with no one being teamed up the play is better and the players are less toxic.

I need to start playing 1v1, but I'm afraid of how bad I'm going to be. Im not even sure if If make gold 1

solo standard was my practice area for a while but now I'm the same rank as in standard. Players are much worse so I feel more confident. In plat standard I just feel lost and slow. But, tbh, solo standard is starting to become that way for me now as well unless I just have a monster game. I either go MVP or scoreless lately.

It's really amazing how important possession is at these ranks, a few solid clears can turn a game around so fast, especially when you have teammates that'll capitalize on it. And at high gold I am not as fearful at semi-risky passes, people always seem to be pretty aware. I'm not hating it at all. The bronze to gold climb is pretty painful.


Solo is pretty toxic but I love the trash talk sometimes. I had a few goofs and gave up an easy save and accidentally centered one goal for the other team - the OTHER team started berating me for being carried, sucking, etc. Spamming "what a save! what a save! what a save" every time I ****ed up.

Then I rammed one goal down their throat, it went back and forth for a bit, some more trash talk, and then with 15 seconds left tied at 4-4 I chatted to their main **** talker: "I'm gonna ram my cock down your throat."

I get a great first touch, ends up bouncing off the wall and it gets passed to me - end up with a wide open shot with the **** talker defending. I always miss wide and high in these spots but the WIM was flowing and I was angry. Ball sails over his head right into the backright corner at 72 mph and we score with :01 left.

I spammed what a save and he screeched for a bit and said he was reporting me and to enjoy my ban, no ban obvs. I love this game.

I suck worse than ever at this game. I've gone from diamond 1 to plat 1 in doubles, im down to like gold 1 in solo standard. I don't get it, I can't win anymore. Solo standard especially. Im easily the best person on the pitch, but I get the most insanely stupid teammates, and they get worse and worse the farther I drop. I consistently have to hang back and play D because one if not both of my teammates are idiot ball chasers, and if I move up the other team gets easy goals, so my skill edge isn't being used effectively. I know the other team has to be just as moronic but they always seem to have a man back that stops any easy goals I get from the D side of field.

I think im going to take a long break, and then stop playing games all together and only work on skill stuff.

I'm going through a similar drought. I was plat 3 and loving life getting to aerials quick and actually scoring goals instead of just being Adam Oates off the backboard. Then the doomswitch happened and everything fell apart and I couldn't even hit the ball anymore.

But it's why we keep on coming back...

I also realized that RL has the "PokerStars effect" where playing people on Fri and Sat nights when they're trashed makes you seem way better than you are

I don't understand your argument. How is it a fact that it's written different? The other end receives it and it can be detrimental to the enjoyment of the game. Why wouldn't we want to report it? If they want to flame people then better silence them and in result it's beneficial for the toxic people as well, because they won't wind up, or not as easily.

Just never bothers me what random people on the internet decide to write in a video game. I could see reporting ppl who abuse mic comms just because they can scream etc.
