Ive just implemented a "air roll left" and "air roll right" button mapping as opposed to just having one button to air roll and then moving the stick in the direction I want to roll.

I still curently suck at it, cuz my brain is figuring it out, but I can already see that im going to be better for it once I Get used to it

I still don't understand the proper situations to use air roll, and thus have never gotten good at using it (because I don't even know when I should).

Air roll is useful for rotating to hit the ball in a specific place on the car, usually the front or corners for power shots, but also if you do a fast aerial you sometimes need to rotate to hit it off the side or roof or something to get a certain angle and speed, or if you need to flip upside down or to either side to angle how the ball comes off. Also it's super useful for correcting your aerial approach to the ball if you didn't start off aimed properly. Krayz used to make fun of me for trying to freestyle some of my clears or harder aerial shots, but mostly it's just trying to get in to a better position. I started messing around with those concepts around 8-900 hours in and after another 800 I'm still only mediocre at it, but that's just to say that if you want to get good you need to be playing around fairly early on with air rolling and figuring out how it effects your path while boosting for aerials and how the you can manipulate where and when you hit the ball.

It's also useful for striking shots on the ground, like if you need to hit the ball from the left side of the field you can air roll right and turn your car on the side and then forward flip at the right moment to angle it straight at the goal with your front bumper. Pros are even better at angling to hit it off the wheels for more speed. I just figured out that if those situations where the ball is bouncing and you have a shot at the goal, pitching forward and to the opposite side of wherever you want it to go right before you hit it off the bounce will help keep the angle low enough to stay under the crossbar but put a crazy amount of speed, like 120kph shots from midfield. Otherwise you have to be a lot more precise in your timing to not make it bounce high up on the backboard or shoot down along the ground.

EDIT: also for Alobar, I would recommend stick to one button for air roll, I think most pros keep air brake and air roll on the same button, usually left bumper. You need to be able to boost while air rolling and flipping, and have a button for accel/reverse each as well as boost, so I'm not sure where you'd fit all that with individual air roll buttons while still being able to hit the other buttons you need access to. I know some pros put either roll left or right on a rarely used button for freestyle shots doing what they call a tornado, but that's the only time I've ever heard of anyone using them.

My air roll is left trigger - same as reverse. You never use both at same time so it seemed like a good idea. Air roll while off the wall is super useful.

I got the Reaper explosion out of a halloween crate. There may be no bigger tilt inducer in the entire game.

The dab ruined it for me and I'm pretty sure I got to know what that is a year later than everybody.

Don't feel bad as I didn't even know what "the dab" was until I just looked it up five minutes ago after reading your post.

I think the most tilt inducing thing for me in Rocket League is my teammate asking to trade mid game as we are getting scored on. I'm focused on executing on the field to the best of my ability and they are focused on adding a shiny "new" quirky antenna to their car.

You use both for the back half flip to change car orientation when retreating on D

So I have been banned for 15-minutes for leaving a game.

Thing is - my two team-mates had already left the game when I did, leaving me 1 vs 3. Why am I being punished for leaving? Once one guy leaves, there's no penalty for the rest right?

You have to leave within a certain time period

That's a silly rule if so.

Within the first guy leaving? I left as soon as the second guy left. First guy left at 0-2 and we were probably better off without him. We scored once but second guy left when they got 1-3 which was probably about a minute or two after the first guy left.

If the last guy really has to play the rest of the game alone that's really stupid. It's not like I had a 'vote to forfeit' at that point - it was leave or stay.

Yeah I had that as well and no idea why it happens. I try to solo games if my teammate leaves ubtil I see there's no chance.

they must have just changed that, I routinely stay after someone quits and then will quit with a few seconds left, and I never get penalized. I havent had it happen in a couple weeks tho.

I thought you never did either, but twice in a row I went down divisions after leaving once partners already left.

Platinum 2 in twos and threes. Just want to get diamond one time. Took two years to be decent at aerials.

After almost 700 hours I realised I never used air roll. I just had a look at the bindings because I suspected I'm missing something after the talk in the thread. I'm diamond 1 too so you'd think I should know something about the game, like the basic controls.

Obviously trying to get the reward and I meet 3 total doofuses today and lost two games. With the 3rd one I somehow managed to win, but this happened:
