Generally, you should be trying to hit those back out, you'll just miss a lot until you get better with practice and learn to anticipate the angles and bounces. In most games I play, trying to push the ball along the boards on offense is futile because people just don't miss, you have to push it higher so that it drops down in front of the net or try to bounce it off the back wall so that it comes more directly in front.
