So? I've played it for 60 hours already and wouldn't be suprised if I'll play it for 10 times that. That is extremely cheap entertainment and fun no matter how many "but all they did..."s you can throw at it.

Going purely by hours played I've already gotten more value for money from this than I have from GOTY Witcher 3.

So I'm delaying buying this in fear it's just a fad game. Any of you that have been playing for a little while now getting bored of it yet? Does it actually have some legs to last?

It's great if you have friends to play with or like something fast paced to kill 30 minutes with here and there. I rarely play for more than an hour though

That's exactly why it's such a great game for guys like me, and as the average gaming age grows, it's no wonder it's such a big hit. I'm a dad, I have a full time job, I have a wife, I have other hobbies. I don't have time for a 7 hour session of The Witcher 3 (though I wish I did )

What I do have is 30-40 minutes before bed where I can get in 5-10 games of Rocket League. And it is glorious

There is a difference between price (cheap) and value, which I'm not going to explain here.

I also have played the **** out of it, and it's 7th on my all-time hours list so far.

In the same boat, minus the kid until November. Might just have to give it a whirl.

It drives me ****ing nuts when I have a wide open goal and a teammate drives up literally right next to me and hits it away from me missing the goal because they just want to ****ing hit the ball. I lost count how many times they would hit it knocking it away.

Even worse when they hit you from behind.

As was said recently, double jumping without even using turbo is great right now. It's pretty easy to judge players who only hit the ball near the ground and dominate them by jumping high to hit it. Not as accurate, but you determine the general direction every time.

if you like watching high level 1v1s (like kronovi vs gambit), then take a look at paschy90's twitch. he also has an amusing habit of giggling every time he scores a nice goal.

yeah, playing with friends has pretty much ruined me from playing random 3v3, because every person is just a massive ****ing idiot who has no clue what they are doing. Maybe it would be different if I was more skilled and could play with better people, but I suck so I'm in the moron pool. So I exclusively play 1v1 unless with friends, which is frustrating because its a constant reminder of how awful I am every single time I play.

The only difference I see skill wise between me and the pros is their defensive and offensive game is a lot better.

Right? They're only better at goalie, aerials, centering, ball control and aiming shots.

While all that stuff matters, I think that without necessarily being super zomg awesome l33t air control dude, solid positioning skills and awareness of where the play is going can make you an incredibly good defensive player.

This is a good post.

I see a lot of people (myself included the first week or so I played) get back on "defense" and just indiscriminately slam into the ball from any direction, which often results in centering it for the other team.

If you're not in goal usually the best thing to do is slam into the opponents who are waiting in front of the net for the ball to be centered.

It's amazing how bad I am, after all these games, at timing the ball when it's in the air. I can't count how many times I charge in there in a blaze of fury, turbo and double jump two inches below the ball and go flying into the other teams' net without even grazing the ball.

Half the battle is being in the right spot and I think I usually am, but I still can struggle with shots in the upper half of the goal. It takes some time to figure out how to react to those shots and employ the right hop/boost combo imo.

Once I got to around 700 rating in 1v1, I kept getting beaten by guys who had crap ball handling skills but very good situational awareness and defensive strategy. They'd just hang in the goal until I took a shot, all of their scores would come from not being able to block their return shots from the sides or full court. When I finally played someone like myself who was super offensive with decent ball handling skills, I started to see how easy it is to exploit that kind of player's mistakes. Unless you're Kronovi, you shouldn't be trying to take many aerials outside of practice and unranked.
