One's performance could be a real rollercoaster in this game.

The roller coaster is real: I'm a rocketeer who can't stay in Diamond long enough to get the 10 wins required for the fancy wheels/whatever. Probably due to my inability to play this game with a controller and the lack of a team that plays often - still the most fun I've ever had playing a video game over a long period of time.

This whole month is brutal with toxic **** teammates, tonight was the worst, was a game or two away from challenger 2 and lost like 20 in a row reporting every teammate, down to d3 div 1. Anyone else around this level that wants to team up and save me from pulling my hair out?

I'd love to but you're from a wrong continent.

That's why I stopped random queuing at d3+, I actually recently don't see the toxicity anymore.

Question for people who've played both - are rankings highly different between 2s vs 3s? I've often struggled to hold plat 1 in 2v2 (which I've played primarily) but started playing 3s and got an initial rank of plat 2, and think the quality of the players at that level is quite a bit lower than a similar ranked player in 2v2. Just me?

I think standard and doubles have pretty similar rankings. Solo standard seems totally another story for me, around 1-3 ranks lower than the rest. Duels rank is even lower.

However I know at least one case where guy plays at C1 also in Solo Standard while maintaining C1 in doubles and at D3/C1 in Standard. He was surprised to hear once that I struggled to achieve diamond levels at one point. I know he had to super adjust though, played extra smart not counting on anyone else by himself.

My doubles and standard ranks are pretty much the same, hovering around mid D2. My solo standard is P2 or so but I haven't played it enough to say whether it's indicative. But be prepared to have radiation treatment or chemotherapy after playing it for some time.

my standard rank is usually a level higher than my doubles, and my solo standard rank is 2-3 levels lower.

If I were to buy this game is it more satisfying to play on console (ps4 in my case) or PC (v. nice gaming pc)?

Any game is better on a good pc - should have a controller for it though.

its way better on PC, not only because it looks and runs better, but also I think the controls are way smoother, whenever i play on the xbox the controls feel like complete slop.

one win from D1 in doubles lastnight and we are up 2-1 and my partner quits. I make some amazing saves, start to think I can actually hold out and win. I'm a tenth of second late on jumping out of the way of a demo attempt and they score and it's gg me at that point

Then lost the next 4 games, fml

This is a funny question. The game runs much, much better on my PC. However, playing on my Nintendo Switch is far more satisfying. Since getting it on Switch I have played over 200 hours and haven't touched it on PC. It's definitely the worst option hardware wise, yet it's the one I find to be most fun.

yet another game with a broken rating system.

Won a game, MVP obv, division down. Lol. Everyone was basically the same rank as me.

It happens if you leave the previous game too early. It shows div down or up after the next match.

Just had my first run-in with real toxicity on the Switch.

Played an intense game of 2v2 with a random teammate, score was 0-0 until the other team managed a great goal with 19 seconds left. I gun the ball at kickoff and set up a beautiful assist with an open goal, all my teammate needs to do is tap it in to equalize. However, he is instead at the starting position, voting to forfeit the match. I give him a, "dude wtfff" after the match, and the other team is also dogging him for giving up in the last 20 secs. Whatever, I move on...

A few matches later, I notice I'm paired with the same guy. I score two goals quickly within the first minute, which is I guess when he realized I was his teammate. He immediately goes to the other goal and starts blocking my shots, then starts purposely scoring on us. I obviously say, "wtff man?" And he replies, "I don't like trash talk."

He then refuses to forfeit said match, so I had to sit there as the other team scored over and over.

"I'm usually plat, btw."

What a ****ing *******. This was silver ****ing 3.

You should try league of legends. Way less toxic over there.

Finally made platinum in doubles after 2.5 years of play (prob avg 5 hrs a week mix of 3v3, 2v2, 1v1). Obv am not very good, but still love the game.

I am in a weird situation with my rank. Playing solo standard, I am bronze 3/silver 1. I am still plat in ranked 3's. Lol. I can hang, I just queued up for my first games in a while there and got MVP's in both games, some sick flick shots, and an aerial goal. For some reason it's a lot harder for me to play like that in bronze/silver because you can just never predict where people are gonna hit the ball or if they are gonna hit the ball. It's like a completely different game.

I like plat gameplay better but when I am not on my game I am REALLY inadequate and it feels bad. My goal is to just relax and unwind when I play, but plat games are stressful to me. But if play solo 3's in bronze/silver it's way too frustrating.

However, I rarely/never miss balls I go for and I feel like that's the #1 thing that matters in low ranks. Even if my shots go a little wide sometimes, I feel like accuracy is key and just getting good hits brings a ton of utility to a team when your mechanical skill is not as good as everyone else's.

For instance - I suck at wall hits so I do not go for them. Missing a wallshot usually results in a goal against my team, I learned that really early. I just try to pick my spots well.

for bronze through gold you can just sit in goal and only come out for 100% chances and you'll basically never lose kinda dull but it works if you wanna climb fast.

I focused less on winning and more on improving in the lower ranks eventually it all comes together and you'll be properly ranked.

Best thing I ever did on this game (I normally play 2v2 with a random partner) was turn 100% of chat off, no quick chat or anything.

Now when somebody is mad, they stop playing (they are typing) I keep playing, I don't see their toxic BS, eventually they give up trying to talk **** because I'm not replying and often they leave the match early giving them a timeout/not able to play again right for 5 or so min or they "join" the other team and it's me vs. 3 people. I report for unsportsmanlike conduct and finish out the match.

I would say for every time I have run into a teammate where the communication/comments were productive to the game or worth reading, I've run into 50 obnoxiously toxic players.

I'm not a pro, I play for fun, I really don't care about my rank, but if I am going to spend time playing, I'm not going to let the toxic players ruin it for me.

chat is fun though. I just expect BM'ing. It gets kind of funny after a while. Especially when you ram goals down the throat of a team that has been aggressively spamming quick chats.

I just started playing 1's and I think it's been better for my game. I have been practicing a lot of off the wall self passes in free play and it's basically like farming free goals in 1's. My shooting has improved a lot.
