I have it on regular old PS4 and it looks great imo and haven't had any framerate drops or anything. I'm not too fussed about graphics though, obv gonna look way better on the newer versions if that's gonna bother you. Game is incredible btw, played like 14 hours straight last night lol.

You guys go for disc purchase or online?

online, I don't see the point of a disc purchase unless you have slower internet. Took me less than 15 minutes to download, thats faster than a trip to the store.

I bought digital. It only took 22 hours to download using Verizon hotspot with mixed signal strength.

I guess it's also resellable that way too

not having to put on pants still trumps those concerns for me tho

Mine took about two hours from the disc

dl took 8 hours for me. I very much enjoy this game but it is much slower than just about every other game I have played over the last decade. Walking is slower. Horse travel is slower. Combat seems much more difficult than most other games. For instance, I'll just be riding down a trail and suddenly I'm surrounded by 6 gang members firing at me from all angles. The interfaces are hard to navigate when you're early in the game and sprinting away just isn't all that effective. I've certainly died in a few instances for this reason.

There is so much to do in this game that I don't feel like I've even tapped the surface of it and I'm about eight hours in. It's gorgeous and wants to be experienced more than played imo. That can be a turn on and a turn off. My biggest fear is that I'm going to put it down for a week and then not be able to play it because I've forgotten how.

God ****ing damnit, played some dominoes at the train station, called my horse when I was done only for it to say he had died, I was like wtf then went to where my saddle was only to find my horse lying by the side of the tracks, I must have jumped off and left him on the train tracks ffs. Now I gotta walk round with my ****ing saddle till I find a new one. I paid $150 for that horse lol.

This game really blurs and disrupts assumptions one makes about games, assumptions one took for granted and was not really aware off.

I dont think its unfair to say, that its absolute core, this game is a walking simulator.

All the game in the game is pretty poorly implemented imo, but the experience of playing, it is truely interactive theatre or somefink.

Switch on foot controls to standard fps and toggle for running. It changes L3 to run and X/A to crouch. So much better.

2x tap assist for pushing/pulling/lifting stuff is nice, too.

I know that sprint exists. It just seems, even while running, that things move slower than I'd like.

This game is set in 1899. I'm having a beer in the saloon and the pianist is playing Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" which was released in, you guessed it, 1899. I see you, Rockstar musicology nerd.

Great game overall (once you get past the agonizingly long tutorial) but the honor/wanted/crime system is idiotic and makes me want to smash my controller. Someone else starts a fight and you get wanted for defending yourself. Walk down the street and bump someone too hard - wanted for assault! Hit anyone with your horse -yep, wanted again! Witnesses see you through walls, trees, hills from miles away, guess what? Wanted again.

Frustrating and unfun. I'm not asking for it to be like skyrim where you can shoot a guy and the guy standing next to him doesn't notice, I just want to be able to walk down the goddam street without getting a wanted level if I bump into someone. Really needs tweaking.

I agree ^^
Got out of the post office and was gonna take my horse. Accidently get on another (next to mine) and I'm instantly wanted for horse theft, although I got off right away and left it there.

I mean, the game is great, it's an outstanding experience and those issues are no big deal. But does no one test those games and is like "Yeah we need to fix this."?

Manual saving seems on bit off. I saved after I collected a debt from a guy but after loading, I appeared kneeling on the ground a few feet away as well as not saving the guy I looted. I could be wrong. I prefer to have the screenshot and exact location saved like skyrim.

Okay I genuinely can't believe the stunning ignorance of some of the choices of "fixes" in red dead 2. Endlessly slow mechanics, having to slowly grab EVERY item you want. And keeping NPCs talking while you're trying to ****ing READ items? This "realism" choice is insanity.

And hey Red Dead 2? If you want to make a movie? Make a ****ing movie. Don't subvert every game mechanic in the name of slow-ass clunky cinematic immersion that doesn't actually understand cinema (which naughty dog does, by comparison)

Because the thing about storytelling is needs to understand drama and character. So far, this is just insufferable "realism" texture worshipping and mood with no real conflict whatsoever. I honestly could not imagine a sequel this backward. ALL the wrong lessons.

If I sound angry it's because I'm angry. Artistry can create the most beautiful, articulate looking things and endless work. And a lack of understanding purpose and undermine all of it. Good grief.

And now the core problem when it comes to video games...
*settles in and plays another 50 hours*

Okay fun update, you get crucial tips up in the very top left of the screen to explain how to do importantly stuff, but it moves my eye away from the things i have to actively concentrate on. When i pause to try and read those tips, a new screen comes up which takes them away.

I accidentally hit the right trigger for a second when getting back on my wagon at the end of a long ass fetch mission and because i fired a gun I have to do the whole thing over there were no "checkpoints."
has anyone actually PLAYED this game before release? This is insanity.

I'm five hours in and I haven't been allowed to really explore, I have to wander behind EVERYONE as they do purposeless things, people talk at me, and I literally don't know a single real motivating thing about my main character other than "is in the gang."

developers: "hey look, we have old timey inventories! they look just like they would in real life!" me: "okay i have to scroll through five pages to buy a can of beans and I'm not sure what they do without clicking on yet another button."
This is a catastrophe.

While purporting to be the same thing, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the literal opposite of Breath of the Wild.

To close a menu at a shop you have to hit "index" multiple times to move the pages back THEN close out after you are at the table of contents.

The button to talk to bring up the prompt to talk to people (the people it allows you talk to) is the same button to draw your gun (on the people it doesn't), and drawing your gun gets you in trouble.

I walked into a building and it automatically threw me into a mission. I want to do this mission. But I need things from my horse back in camp to do it (it makes you keep weapons on horse). But my horse and the camp doesn't show up on the map unless i'm OUT of the mission.

I literally was just in the middle of whatever I was doing and shut the game off. I'm going to bed. So far, this is a complete slog. But congrats big decision makers on making your staff work 100 hours a week to make beautifully light cascade off hyper-accurate horse balls.

Day 2: more weirdly hopeful that I’ll settle into it today. I reallyhave no interest in ongoing negativity. I really really really want to like this gams.

Updates: to track an animal you hit the same button that slows time, meaning you can't actually move while you see it's "path" and it takes constant going back and forth, making tracking tedious.

When you go to play dominoes, you can't see anything from the the main screen, so you have to constantly zoom in and out on your tiles and then the board (in a way that is STILL comically hard to see) by hitting different prompts.

What's upsetting about this is that they are two problems that The Witcher did perfectly with regards to tracking animals AND just allowing you to go into your own menu to play gwent. RDR2 is OBSESSED with not letting you go into any easier interface cuz REALISM.

Finally getting into the spaces to hunt and explore and I genuinely can't wait for the fishing part (it's always my favorite part of these games?) - this feels better.

I was buying new things for camp from a ledger. Another character came over to talk me about an unrelated matter that created a cutscene that dragged me away the ledger and now I have to go back. I have zero understanding of why this happened.

You have to do weapon load-outs from your horse. At camp, you cant pull out your weapon. This means that if you want to organize your loadout before a mission. You have to unhitch your horse. Leave the camp. Get off your horse. Do your loadout. Then get back on horse.

I can't seem to quick draw the weapon I have that's actually selected (for instance the bow). It always reverts to the revolver. I have to select the weapon I want literally every time.

When you die you have to re-do your weapon loadouts.
