"You misogynists" referred to those of you who actually are, whoever that might be. Not specifically to who I quoted.

Yeah, games should have more female characters, this shouldn't be that controversial.

Back on topic though, RDR was a great, and even though it's not some exquisite masterpiece of story telling it's way above the very low standard that most games (including Rockstar's) have set. If they don't announce a PC version by the time it comes out I'll probably cave and finally buy a PS4

Is it possible this game won't have female playable characters because there might be some violence against the main character that would be in poor taste if done on a woman?

I'm just thinking purely from a "story element A cut and pasted over character B" perspective

Haven't played the original, and its' $30 on the backwards compat store

RDR is the best game I've ever played, so I'm pretty stoked for RDR2

Trailer looks fine.

When I said "no hope for AAA games" I was overreacting; I more meant there is no hope for GTA (loved the GTA3 series and it's been downhill since GTA4). RDR is in my top 2ish, and hopefully RDR2 doesn't go in the GTA5 direction of strictly railroaded missions, awful shooting (in previous gen version), and telling self-important stories about masculinity that have already been told literally thousands of times.

With "no hope", what I mean is that they (and other developers) move away from freedom and chaos in favor of tightly-controlled narratives that they and gamers think are "great storytelling". I can and do get my "great storytelling" elsewhere thanks; give me a framework with which me and randomness can create our own memorable stories.

Would be a great opportunity to NOT cut and paste story elements.

I think games have a leg up on other mediums in terms of getting the viewer emotionally invested in the story, so you can have some great story telling with railroaded gameplay, most developers just suck at it. Which shouldn't be surprising, the vast majority of tv shows/movies are terrible at it too.

the trailer..... wow.

but, I'm a little worried they may let you switch between the whole entire posse - I think 7+ playable/switch characters may end up being just a bit too much IMO; 3-4 sure, but 7 makes me worried they wouldnt have time to really develop complex stories for each (like in GTA V.)

I dont know how we can wait this long for realease...

It's 2016 and bigots like Baltimore Jones are still assuming people's genders based on their appearances.

All members of the posse could be he, or she, or they, or xe for all we know.

It's the current year.

I completely agree. I wasnt a fan at all of the switching in GTA. Part of what was awesome about RDR was being John ****ing Marston the whole game

Spoiler:
Until the end of the game

Yea, really hope there aren't seven people to keep switching between at least.

I do prefer just one protagonist for a game - though having played it, I wouldn't really want to do without any of the 3 POVs you got from GTAV. Not sure how well they would've worked as separate stories either since they overlap so much, but the constant switching between "me"s wasn't ideal.

The biggest thing I hated was the switching mid mission, when you have to snipe with Michael and do something else with Franklin. I dont know that just bothered me.

Super lame but I still remember the first night I played RDR, riding a horse under starlight. The setting is 10x better than the city imo

Can't wait for this.

Think my biggest gripe with the last one was the repetitiveness of the side missions. But I'm inclined to play through it again now for old time's sake.

Does kinda suck its so far away. I haven't been a hardcore gamer for well over a decade until recently, so I didn't realize how long the time between announcement and release was.

For R* games it's even longer since they consistently go for maximizing their profits by delaying the pc-release by a year or two to make most people get the inferior console-version while waiting for the pc version.

As much as I love them for their awesome games, I don't get why they insist on being such cynical, capitalist ****ers.

Why can't everyone just be as awesome as CD Project Red? It's not like developers capable of creating great games have to choose between making money and being awesome. It is possible to do both.

They did a terrible job of this in GTA5 so I have no faith that they'd do it well here.

GTA5 was sold as "switching to diff characters with diff abilities to approach missions differently", but in reality it was "do a little bit of this mission with this character until we force you to switch, rinse and repeat". There were literally 1 or 2 missions in which switching was meaningful (like where you could choose to be a sniper or be the guy going straight in).

Do you mean a new thread in which nobody is allowed to do anything other than slurp Rockstar, or do you mean a new thread in which nobody cares about how women are portrayed in media (since that's not something that's at all important)?

Just give BJ and Cotton their own thread where they can yell dumb **** at each other so people who want to discuss the game reasonably can do. They did the same **** when GTA 5 was released.

People care about this issue you just pick incredibly stupid spots to discuss it and do it so aggressively that it's hard to take you seriously.
