It's the PS4 launch event, of course they didn't mention Xbox. It was announced for current and next gen console on Monday (incl. xbox360, and probably the next xbox whenever MS announce it).

I guess if Sony is saying you'll be able to use Gaikai specifically to play PS3 games...you'll be playing them remotely off a PS3 machine somewhere in the wild and streaming the video over? lol

I thought it was two parts.

You could either play a PS4 game on your Vita, presumably while being in the same local network. The PS4 is then essentially streaming the video over I guess.

And you could start playing games before buying them because once you download a small part of it you can already play it, just like streaming a video off youtube.

Biggest selling point for me is the suspend/resume feature. Instantly start playing from exactly where you left off.

Hopefully ads or endless updates won't get in the way.

I just made that post after listening to the postgame thing for 2 minutes and the guy said PS4 won't have backwards compatibility but will do it through Gaikai or something

Goofy-
Here is a PS2 tech demo also prominently featuring some old man face:

the more famous claim was that they would render the FF8 ballroom scene in real time:

This is a picture of a PS4 game running on the PSvita. If you don't believe me, here's the link.

no it doesnt. You're smoking crack. Unless you're referring to the style of game rather than the graphics. Heres a ps2 game for comparison...

PS4 won't play PS3/2 games, not even digital downloads. As in you'll need to download it again on PS4...

I agree this is a big plus. Games that don't put pause buttons into cutscenes drive me crazy so helps get around that and anything that can help cut loading screens is a bonus.

Of course in some games f/ex dark souls it'd be interesting to see how it'd work in practice..

Can't say I'm a fan of the whole "I'm stuck so I'll get a health pack from a friend" thing but I guess if it stops devs from dumbing down their games knowing that people can just gank their way out with friend help anyway then it could work out as a positive in the end.

Is every game gonna have like a 8gb save file? That's pretty nuts.

To me, a console is useless without games and it's the games that make me want to buy a new console. I haven't seen any PS4 games yet, so I don't want one yet.

I really have a hard time understanding people that want to buy one based on a hardware launch.

What is it that makes you want one?

OK, if you want to buy a console in anticipation of the games they'll make for it, then go ahead.

I'll wait and only buy when I *know* there's a game I want and that game isn't played just as well on some hardware I already own.

This generation I got an Xbox first and I only bought a PS3 when Demon's Souls came out as a PS3 exclusive and I just *had* to play it.

I dont need to anticipate games ahead of time. For me personally there have been MULTIPLE games I have enjoyed for PS, PS2, and PS3 to make it fun to purchase all 3. I am not worried about PS4 totally tanking and even if it doesn't do great, I bet there are multiple games that I will want to play and find enjoyable for it...but maybe I am not such a harsh critic like some are with the next gen stuff. oh well, still will enjoy playing some games to kill some time.

I mean, it's a playstation. We know what we're getting. 95% of console games over the next however many years will be available for it. If someone enjoys console gaming I can say with confidence without ever seeing a game for either system that they will very likely be buying the new playstation or xbox at some point.

They showed off demos... Watch Dogs looks amazing & Destiny looks mind blowing. Even tho I'm pretty sure Destiny is going to be on both platforms.
