For PS2 -> PS3 -> PS4, the jump in power is really dependent on the individual developers due to the cell architecture of the PS3 not being something trivially harnessed. You'll probably see a very large, immediate improvement in what games from average dev shops can do when the PS4 is released. But for those with super-optimized PS3 engines (I'm thinking the Naughty Dogs and Insomniacs of the world), I don't think the overall processing power available on the PS4 is a substantial increase over its predecessor.

I imagine it'll be quite the relief to have oodles of RAM to play around in on both next-gen platforms.

Though asset (texture, etc) sizes also blow up a ton so it's not like it's all FREEEEEE MEMORY. But some of it is.

I believe now you have to get PSPlus to play games online.

You do get more for free with PSOnline than Xbox Sliver Live I know that.

Ps+ and xbox live will pretty much be identical in scope from here on out. Two new games each month, discounts, online play, apps, and $5 a month

I'd disagree with that.

You get more than 2 games a month on PS+, it's usually 3 or 4 and even though the XBL deal is still new, the quality of games has been terrible compared to PS+.

For example XBL's free games have been:

Fable 3
Halo 3
Assassin's Creed II
Dead Rising 2
Dead Rising 2: Case 0
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Magic 2013.

In the same timeframe PSN got all of this:

LittleBigPlanet Karting
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Battlefield 3
Payday: The Heist
Saints Row: The Third
Mafia II
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Spec Ops: The Line
When Vikings Attack!
Assassin's Creed III
The Jak and Daxter Trilogy
Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark

Again, I know the XBL deal is only new but that is still a massive difference in terms of value.

How many of the PS+ games do you own? If you cancel PS+ you loose access to all the games right? So one would be stuck for life paying X amount to get the games on XBL once you DL you own forever. Glad you missed that entire point.

Obv the games have been better on PS+ but you have to "pay" for them. Free and clear on XBL.

I definitely dont see the major drawback of getting a years subscription and playing through and completing 50 odd games. Sure feels like you'd get your moneys worth. From personal experience once i complete a game i rarely every revisit it anyway.

Also once the PS4 is out you will need PS+ to play online so doubt many people are gonna be cancelling subscriptions.

These are not the North America PS+ games in case anyone is wondering. We didn't get AC3, Jak, Need for Speed, Mafia II. Some differences.

Yea. You also regain access to all games you ever "owned" if you come back after your subscription lapsed.

You do know that XBL promotion ends in December with no plans to carry onto Xbox One right? So basically you think the 6 months of games released before 2010 that can be picked up second hand for about $5 each is better value than what PSN offers because you can keep those old games when you cancel? Right. Being able to keep the games is obviously an advantage but it really doesn't mean **** when those games are pretty much obsolete and can be picked up for the same price as a month of live.

You're also one of the guy that was calling people "poors" in the Xbox thread for having an Xbox and not having XBL. The same applies here with PS3 and PSN.

Sony is preparing to reveal the final piece of its PS4 hardware strategy at TGS by showcasing a PlayStation-branded virtual reality head-mounted display, CVG has learned.

It originally intended to reveal the Sony headset at Gamescom but plans fell through at the eleventh hour. The company is currently weighing up whether the PS4 device should be pitched as a key differentiator for the console or a non-essential add-on.

The matter has been slightly complicated, but not derailed, by the growing industry support for Oculus Rift. Sony's device will be a categorical rival to Oculus, and for months there have been rumours suggesting the two companies are seeking a partnership.

A games developer familiar with Sony's plans, who wished to remain anonymous, told CVG that Evolution Studios is currently working with the device to simulate a cockpit view on its PS4 title Drive Club.
