For PSVR, the improvements are primarily in clarity of image. Many VR games do not manage native resolution, the pro helps some to get there. For others that do manage good resolution, they can go higher (supersampling), basically the ultimate in AA techniques. It's not a mind blowing improvement, but it's certainly "nice to have".
Rez Infinite went from 1440x810 to the full 1920x1080 for it's rendering (I don't have this one, but imagine that makes it look a good bit nicer)
Batman and Rigs (I do have), these two implemented a form of foveated rendering on the base PS4. Graphics towards the edges of the view were rendered in a lower resolution, while the center is rendered at full sharpness. On the pro, they are sharp all over so you can move your eyes more rather than your head. I think they both increase AA quality also. Rigs especially, it's super clean on the Pro. Still a few stair-step jaggies noticeable, but nowhere near so much as before.
In traditional games, the Pro increases resolution / AA (depending on your TV) and framerate, sometimes dramatically. CoD:IW / Titanfall 2 looks incredible on the Pro. Super clean image, not a jaggy in sight. Battlefield 1 improves the resolution and doesn't drop from 60fps nearly so much as on the regular PS4.
If I could buy only one of the PSVR or Pro, I would buy the VR without question. Slightly muddied however given the discount for trading in the old model (I kept mine, will likely give it away to family). The PSVR is an "omg this amazing new experience!". The Pro is "ahh, this is slightly nicer that what I had before". Both together is obviously best, tho.
