I see a couple of potential solid games for early next year, but am checking for something to play before the new GOW comes out.

It's clunky PS2 gameplay with PS3 graphics.

Ico was good (not as good as the similar and contemporary Prince of Persia: Sands of Time), SotC is middling. Gamers think that they're masterpieces because the quiet, lonely atmospheres and character deaths made them sad. Gamers for literally 8 years have been looking forward to the very obvious ending of Guardian where the boy and/or the guardian will die, because gamers think that's what makes something artistically meaningful.

I hope it's a huge let-down.

Sorry for troll post, I take it back a little bit.

Still agree with everything I said but hope people aren't too sad about it and instead come to a better appreciation of actual good art.

K might have made it worse now, sorry.

Agree about Ico but SotC is in no way average. If you take away the atmosphere and lore then it's mechanically still a very impressive game. The colossi were moving levels/puzzles with each bringing something new and different. It had never been done before and they pulled it off very well. I've got no problem with someone not liking it because it isn't the easiest of games to get into but to say it's average and only praised because of it's atmosphere and aesthetics is kind of short sighted.

The initial pitch ("16 Zelda boss fights!") put me off, never understood why people thought that was a good thing when those were generally not the most engaging parts of Zelda-like games.

The gameplay to me was tedious and controlled poorly; you were holding onto the button to make the character grip, just hoping the boss would stop randomly shaking in time for you to not tire.

The sense I get from most people is that they praise it for its atmosphere and the feeling of sadness it gives them.

I beat Ico and thought it was ok but it didn't really leave a lasting impression on me. The initial pitch of 16 boss fights didn't do much for me either and neither did the praising reviews after it was released. It wasn't until my brother pretty much forced me to watch him play the first boss that I got interested and played it. I don't remember it being compared to Zelda but it's clearly not Zelda style boss fights.

I think they could have definitely cut down on the bosses and not re-used the same ideas, there were a few where you do what you describe with the grip button but there was still a lot of variety in colossi designs. Each one was it's own level/puzzle and figuring out how to beat them and then executing it was satisfying to me. I think whether or not that's tedious is subjective. There is a lot of failing and trying again and I can see how that would put people off just like the restrictive controls. They're like that by design and I wasn't the biggest fan but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I enjoyed the atmosphere the game created. The "story" meant nothing to me and I didn't feel sad(lol) about the horse or the colossi. I liked it because after beating a boss the feeling accomplishment along with the anticipation of riding to and finally seeing the next one from a distance was pretty awesome. It might not be a perfect game or a masterpiece but it took a lot of risks for the time, tried some new stuff and pulled most of them off very well. It's a great game that does deserve decent recognition.

With that said, I really want TLG to be good but it's been in development for 10 years and my gut is telling me not to get my hopes up.

PSX on tap for next weekend. Might see some as yet unannounced stuff.

Rumors about TLOU2 being announced but I really hope not. PSX seems too small to announce it even though it's probably be 2018 until it comes out.

If they want to grow PSX and make it seem big then announcing something like TLOU2 is the perfect way to do it. If they make a habit of announcing a major title every PSX then it would get a lot more eyes on it.

The Last Of Us 2: The Rest Of Us

I just want the multiplayer with options like UC4's. I could care less about the story mode, though I'll of course play it and love it.

I could tell you but I would have to kill you.

They usually don't spill the exact details until the rehersals on the day of the presentation.

I couldn't say anyway since I still want to work in this industry.

Great freebie but not the type of game I'd play on PS4 anyway, have it for iPad and love playing it that way.
