So is it better to evolve pokemon early? or power them up instead?

i have yet to read a definitive answer on that

so far at lvl 5 my best guys are a couple 151 cp slowpokes. there are a few gyms and centers along the river behind my apartment that will likely be my usual spots.

did meet two people today walking around the complex playing. also nearly drove over another

Just played for the last hour, walked around the neighborhood.

Read an article i agreed with:

Quote:
Nick: I’m of two minds on Pokémon Go right now. Over the past week, there have been moments where I’ve seen glimmers of the game Pokémon Go aspires to be — a recent walk through Golden Gate Park saw me chaining together PokéStop visits, picking up items, stalking a Growlithe in 20-meter increments, and hatching an egg along the way. And it was kinda fun! It got me to explore a part of San Francisco I usually never visit, and I saw some Pokémon springing up in the park’s tall grass that weren’t available around my apartment, which was a cool feeling. But the whole thing feels like it’s still quite a few months of development and polish away from being the type of game people obsess over

It’s frustrating, because it’s not hard to imagine a version of Pokémon Go I’m head over heels in love with. I love Pokémon, especially the first-gen roster they pulled from for this game, and I love location-based games: CodeRunner on iOS is still one of the coolest gaming experiences I’ve ever had. But Pokémon Go, as it exists today, feels a bit skeletal, and it’s not the cool, social, hyper-location-aware game I had my fingers crossed it’d be.

Pretty much where I'm at.

Lol at that review. Diehard competitive pokemon players thinking this is gonna be a pokemon rpg game... It obviously wasn't

Actually, I have an idea.

Who would be interested in importing your characters you've caught over to one of the pokemon online simulators?

Give me a few minutes, let me see if I can decide how to make this work

Guess this an interest thread now on if people want to play battles with the pokemon they've caught

Quick rules:
3 pokemon
1/10th of their 'CP' is their level
Generation 1 stadium ruleset

http://play.pokemonshowdown.com/

Who would play?

im pretty sure that guy was expecting nothing less than being a real pokemon trainer. it is an augmented reality game with pokemon flavor, not a pokemon rpg with some real geo stuff baked in

the real complaint besides the obvious server failures today are a complete lack of instruction

one review i read complained that you couldnt do much when you play to kill time while waiting in line somewhere.

Used both my incenses tonight and had an ok Kingler pop up. Other than it was a bunch of rattatas. Leveled him and he's at 236 now. Hoping to take the gym by my work tomorrow. I still need to get level 5 but I'm pretty close.

As someone who has never played anything pokemon related, this is definitely a problem for me.

I just downloaded it, and I get that I'm supposed to capture 'things'; I don't really know how, though, or why. Or what to do with them once I have them.

Even though I'm in the dark I still want to enjoy the game, though, as I like the idea of AR and it seems like tons of people are excited for this. Hopefully it starts to click.

haven't tried this yet because of the server problems but I get the impression it's more like pokemon favored ingress than an actual pokemon game which may or may not be cool

an all-out pokemon RPG/battler with the GPS elements would be awesome for all the nerds but might have a narrower appeal

It's basically a pokemon skin of the game, so yes.

So small sample size, but I found a ghost Pokemon at night, so maybe that's a thing. I also think opening up a real world game is the future. It's genius, and they're probably going to get sued a lot. Also odd to release it with limited instructions. I also feel a quick release with negative publicity is actually good publicity, as Twitter blew up yesterday with the servers being down.

I'm finding it super entertaining so far. And def for someone who almost never walks voluntarily, I can say my dog is loving it too

Anyone taken over a gym yet? I'm just about to try.

I'm right in thinking teams only matters locally right? i.e I should get reddit/facebook locals to join same team as me? In theory if my city is mostly one color, it would be easier to take/hold gyms?
Pokemon Go Quote
07-08-2016 , 08:45 AM
why would you want to do that?

the fun is in battling for the gym
Pokemon Go Quote
07-08-2016 , 08:50 AM
My point is that I wouldn't want to join a team that was outnumbered 3:1 or 4:1 and have my gym always taken over. Ldo you wouldn't want a whole city one color but it would be nice to know you have constant backup

I guess when the game turns out to be a global phenomenon like I know it will, this won't be a problem, as even the outnumbered teams will have thousands or tens of thousands of people
