How hard was the Articuno raid? How many people?

I had a crew of 14, and we took it out pretty easily, given the 300 second clock. I had one critter left which was at nearly full health when we got it. Catching the bastards is really hard. Only 2/14 did. This guy doesn't attack nearly as much as tyranitar tho. Using a golden raspberry didn't make the ring any visibly less red. Be patient and wait for a good spot to get a great hit with a curveball.

9 rare candy as a raid reward tho is pretty great. One guy got double digits.

I have 4-5 decent to good IV Golems with the right move set it seems, going to try those with a Tyranitar or two thrown in. Raid groups in my normal spots rarely exceed 4-5 people so hopefully a lot come out of the woodwork for this event.

Golems won't last long. They're pretty fragile in these, BUT you get more balls for doing more damage, and you don't get bonus points for leftover living critters. So, they're probably better with a team of 13+ than they are with a team of 8ish. I'm not sure what a typical minimum size is for this, but given the extended timer, durability has a lot more merit than in lower raids. Even so, you can always rejoin raids in progress, so if you have the potions, blowing through a bunch of glass cannons is fine.

Also, so, lol, if you want to walk your legendary buddy for candy, it is TWENTY KILOMETERS PER CANDY. Is there a consensus for the best non-Mewtwo legendary where I might dump some of the rare candy I've been hoarding? Because I should obviously have some candy for Mewtwo should he ever get released, but maxing out one or two other legendaries might be good, too. I guess Ho-oh and Lugia are the highest CP, but Zapdos and Raikou might have the most useful typing?

I'd wait until the event is over before investing any candy. You're still not sure how many you'll catch.

Yeah, I am obviously waiting on spending most of it until at least the most desirable critters are out in raids. But at the same time, I"m not willing to spend ****loads on bag upgrades to hold all I'm getting from the raids. If you average 8ish rare candy per legendary raid, that adds up fast.

Ughhhh. There is an Articuno camping at a gym within distance of my house, but it's 6 AM here. Trying my damndest to wake up the local players.

Side note: The gym acted weird beforehand. It looked like it was empty, but when I clicked on it there were clearly Mystic pokemon in the gym. When I opened the app again about 15 minutes later, Articuno was there. No egg.

Walked down the street for one at 7:15 this morning, only 6 ppl showed up. Only got him down to about 20% before the timer ran out. Seems like at least an 8-trainer job.

Alright, so that was pretty awesome. About 30 people showed up for the Articuno, we beat it handily. Only a few people manged to catch it, I was not one of them.

We all immediately went to an adjacent park for a Lugia, about 50 people showed up for that one. Lugia is HUGE, our Pokemon were so tiny. Lugia is also wayyyyy tougher than Articuno, most of us were on our last legs when we dropped him. Again, only a few managed to catch the beast (1988 CP) and even with golden razz + great curves for all 10 balls he didn't even humor me with a fakeout catch

Most people were heading to the other side of town for another Lugia, but I've got to crash. All in all, it was just super ****ing cool to see that many people mobbing this early in the morning-- felt great. Catching these ****ers will definitely be a numbers game. Base catch rate is something like 2%, so try not to get discouraged if at first you don't nab them.

Edit: I did catch a Snorlax walking out of the park though

Rural player here. Out of curiousity, how do you get those legendary raid passes? Is it 1 per day for free?

I don't think legendary passes are actually a thing. I just used a regular free pass (from spinning the gym) and a premium.

Egg hatches doling out double candy too. Just hatched a 64 candy Chansey.

Done 3 legendary raids this morning, 1 Lugia, 2 Articuno. 0 for 3, feeling pretty pissy about it. Using golden raz and curveball every time, these things are tough to get. Wife and son both managed the Lugia. On the plus side getting 13k xp per raid is nice and I got 3 fast TM's and 3 charge TM's out of those three tries so not a total loss. Live in a town of about 120k people, had at least 40 at all three raids.

I've successfully done 6 Articuno raids today, caught 1 of the 6. Got 1 quick TM and 2 charge TMs.

Just took down an Articuno with a group of 15, only 1 (not me) caught it. Got 12 rare candy and a charge TM tho.

So many people are getting the legendaries that if/once trading comes out they wont even be in demand lol

I'm 1/2 for articunos, haven't done Lugia yet. Got 12 rare candies, 2 fast tms, and a charged tm on first one. Then just like 6 rare candies on other.

Stumbled upon an area with an Articuno and Lugia raid. Nobody at the Articuno raid, but there were a dozen waiting for the Lugia

3 Articuno raids, didn't have time for more today sadly, always a lot of people there. We have a whatsapp group now with a lot of people. Wasn't able to catch it. Got Lugia on the last raid of the day and catched it
