Have evolved 3 Steelix so far, finally got a perfect moveset on the third one.
Just going to keep bitching about my run bad on eggs. Evolved another 10k into a pineco yesterday to make 3 in a row. Evolved a 5k today into a Staryu making 4 in a row for those on 5k's. Holy ****, whatever I did I'm sorry already.

Son plays too, is only level 22. Has hatched 3 10k's in past couple weeks. Lapras, Larvitar, Snorlax. Must. Be. Nice.

New gym changes look great
Disagree about the gym changes. It may be an improvement, but they aren't fixed, and they could have made some obvious better decisions. Choosing a FIFO system for critters creates a disincentive to be the one to take down a gym. They should have gone FILO so that passing players had the most incentive to take down a gym rather than wanting instead to be the last monster in.

It also looks like there is nothing you can do about a full gym of your own team except now use it as a souped up pokestop. That was another big reason for stagnation.

you get coins when pokemon get kicked out of gyms. you probably don't want it sitting in there until last.

Oh, I hadn't seen that. So then you have the incentive to then not bother to feed your critters berries at all despite that being the new option? That seems even weirder. They made these whole new berries to restore motivation, and you shouldn't even want to use them like that?

You get more coins the longer your Pokémon stays in the gym, so you have incentive to keep it in there until it hits the max of 100 coins but not after that. I guess they don't want gyms to go stale again.

Huh. On the one hand, that sounds good. On the other, the GPS spoofers will still have a big advantage getting back in just as their critters expire.

Spoofers are starting to have their own troubles: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/...mark-of-shame/

From what I have read, it was initially the case that the slash would go away upon evolution, but it seems like that has already been patched or something. Either way, they are pretty aware of the problem and trying to do something about it.

One other thing about the gyms, per some leaked video I saw, you get stardust (like +50 per berry) for feeding your pokemon on gyms, so there is some incentive to feed your guys.

Agree 1000% regarding your FILO comment though. Then again, stronger players are the most likely to yank a gym down anyway so I expect you will see those dynamics come into play with the first pokemon on the gym being a real bother to try and attack. I have multiple 3000+ CP Blissey for instance, so I am more than willing to take down a few gyms and let people go to war with me.

Gyms now live. First impression... Seems stupid. I hope I'm wrong.

Put 2 Pokemon in gyms, motivation seems to be dropping a lot faster than I expected. My 3k blissey is already at 2.5k cp after like 20 minutes

They're not at full power when you put them in; you can power them up to full strength with a berry.

I take it 6 is max # of Pokemon in a gym? When do you start getting rewards for holding a gym?

Feel like this event will increase the popularity of gyms temporarily while people are still motivated by the new system.

Up to 20, actually. But your coin haul is now one coin per hour, and if your critter isn't in the gym for an hour, then you get nothing. The good news is that feeding berries doesn't just give you stardust. It also gives you a chance to get a candy if that type, even if it is not your critter. Looks like it is time to shove my Flaafys in gyms!

Looks like you can't have more than one type of Pokémon in a gym. No more Blissey stacks

Early yet but not too happy about gym changes. I'm level 28 only, don't have any really boss pokemon yet. If gym changes are trying to make them more accessible it isn't working. Before it was rare I could even get in a gym but if I did I could at least collect 10 gold once even if the gym was lost almost immediately. Now I get nothing, or maybe 1 or 2 gold if it holds for an hour or two. It is just impossible for me to hold a gym for any length of time except on very rare occasions.

Seems worse, not better for lower level scrubs like me so fail on Niantic's part (unless that wasn't their intent).

We'll see how it plays out, I realize it hasn't been enough time to know for sure.

I don't know about awful, but I'm not sold.

1. It's glitchy af right now. Not sure how this new gym system broke combat, but combat is terrible. Tons of your attacks just don't seem to count, and in addition to un-swapping out a critter when you "die" after dodging an attack that kills you but then doesn't, you also un-swap after swapping, and then reswap again. Ugh.

2. Eliminating prestiging is pretty bad. It may be true that prestiging is less accessible to casual players, but prestiging added some variety to catching (gotta find a variety of good prestigers in addition to the best top critters) and it had you battling with a wider array of things.

3. On the plus side, I don't mind shaking up the gym metagame. You'll face a greater variety of monsters because it doesn't matter as much what gets put in there, and even if everyone is putting in "optimal" or semi-optimal ones, it still changes things up. Like, Ditto seems like it would be a viable defender now rather than just the first thing eliminated. Had this been done much earlier, Chansey would be an interesting addition to the metagame rather than a mini-Blissey that is now the ~2nd best defender in the game. Snorlax and Lapras and Umbreon and Tentacruel among others get a nice boost in status. People have yet to figure out that Tyranitar, Rhydon, Gyarados, and even Dragonites are basically garbage as defenders in the new state of things, but they are basically garbage.

4. Even if the neighborhood gyms are full of your team without you, they aren't totally worthless. You can still get items, stardust, and maybe some candy.

5. At least this means people want to eventually get out of gyms.

6. Getting no coins sucks. You should automatically earn something if you go through the trouble of taking out a gym.
