Don't know if it's because I levelled up or just Rio is happening place, I've had a few other high level ones I've never seen before get away from me.

There are like 20 stops and 3 gyms at the Rio. I'm sure when I get home to rural Ohio I'll have to drive 50 miles to hit 3 gyms.

As has been stated, the CP of wild Pokemon you see is directly tied to your player level.

Yea I had played a little bit elsewhere right before I came to the Rio and seems night and day the Pokemon I am finding. Maybe variance or maybe geography is involved too?

Walked around for a bit just now and caught six pokemon. Might show up to work early and walk around dtla for a bit.

Catch everything and horde your pokemon until you get a lucky egg (random pokestop drop, or buy one from store) then evolve all your low level stuff. Good way to gain 4-5 levels.

Not certain it's even required, I've been able to catch everything I've encountered with normal throws. Not losing more than 5-6 balls for even the hardest.

it will register the catch even if it freezes, as long as you were meant to catch it.

get used to closing and restarting the app

You will get a couple for free once you hit certain levels. Otherwise, you buy them.

I leveled from 7 to 13 this weekend and I'm starting to see much better spawns around my house (suburbs). Saw a vulpix, dratini, and a tentacruel since last night.

Spawn number is related to how many people are using it in the area? That kind of stinks, was hoping you could go for a hike in the woods and catch the same amount of stuff.

I suppose that would mean lots of children getting lost in the forest.
