I feel your pain, but just as an FYI, Porygon come from 5k eggs.

Never seem that in the wild, but I have hatched two.

Does it matter which Pokemon in the evolution chain you use as your buddy? E.g., does a Dragonair earn candy at the same rate as Dratini?

No they all earn candy at the same rate.

I am fairly new to Pokemon Go, just started playing about 2 weeks ago. I just recently started gym battling. How much luck have you guys had with a gym standing for over 21 hours? It seems to me that they turn over super quick (way less that 21 hours). And so far I have not had more than 1 day of rewards, which are pretty paltry. Is it just a volume game? Are you guys just trying to stick your pokemon in every gym possible?

I had 2 hold for 20 hours 40 mins, both got taken over with 20 fing minutes to go for reward

Most gyms switch hands frequently in high population areas but I had two near me that were level 10 team mystic for 3+ weeks, the gym had maxed out xp and a bunch of 2000+ CP pokemon

It depends a lot on the gym location and how accessible it is by car. I've found that I've held gyms much longer in general when they're not "park-distance". That is, if you can drive on the street or a parking lot, and park there safely for a while to battle the gym, it's gonna get taken over a lot more often.

I've had 6 hold for around a week each now. They are:

1) CP 1963 Vaporeon with Water Gun and Hydro Pump. This one has been longer than any of the others, probably 3 weeks now. It's in the 8th slot in the gym, 7 people have higher CP fighters in there.

I was fortunate to luck into it, as I walked across a bridge from my city into the next city over, and happened to see a level 9 gym. It was located at a "Welcome to our city" sign that is in the middle of a main street where cars can NOT park. You have to park in a parking lot nearby and walk to the sign which is in a garden area right in the middle of the intersection.

I built it up to level 9 and stuck my at-the-time highest CP fighter in, and now I have 6 guys with higher CP!

2) CP 1777 Wigglytuff with Pound and Hyper Beam. This one has only been there around 4 days. I saw a gym inside a national historic site in my city, inaccessible by car, in a spot that you have to walk a few minutes to get to.

It had a CP 2700 Dragonite on top of it, and 2 other solid fighters. This was my most advanced gym play, actually, because I trained the lowest fighter, a Gyrados, with my Jolteons, and built it up until there was 2 slots open. This was due to the fact that I was planning to put my Wigglytuff in, and it would have been nearly impossible for anyone to build up the gym with my Wigglytuff on the bottom.

I built it up two slots, put my Wigglytuff in one, and left the area. I saw later someone dropped something in below it, and planned to go back and build it up more, but before I got a chance to, someone knocked the lowest CP fighter out. So now its a 4 level gym, with my Wigglytuff on the bottom, a Gyrados, a Snorlax, and a Dragonite. It has held for a while, and is pretty intimidating but I don't expect it to last as long as the level 10 gyms I hold. Level 4 is just too easy of a target.

3) CP 2224 Vaporeon with Water Gun and Water Pulse. This is my most proud one, because it is within sight of my house, and it is so nice to look and see my guy on top of a level 10 gym! I had battled for control of this gym for several weeks before I got strong enough to hold it like this, and actually needed some held from another player.

The gym is located at a gas station, but not near the pumps, sort of on the edge of the parking lot. However, it is accessible by the street very easily and you can park there in the gas station and battle the gym. The only thing positive about it's location for long-term holding is that its not really near any other gyms, while the rest of the gyms in the city are all clustered at least 3+ in an area. This must be the reason it's held so long, besides being level 10, because it seems teams go around in groups and take these gym clusters, but nobody has gone out of their way to come take this one.

What happened was, I saw someone had a CP 2219 Snorlax on top of it, there was a strong CP ~2100 Exeggutor there below it, and then someone had stuck a CP ~1300 Flareon at the bottom. I powered up my highest Vaporeon and saw that it got to 2224, using the last of my dust and eevee candies. But it was worth it! I built the gym up to level 4 and I was on top of it.

I kept walking back home and back to the gym for the rest of the night building it up a level each time, and leaving a slot open. The guy I used most to train it up was my CP 774 Seadra with Water Gun and Hydro Pump. It destroyed the Flareon 3 times usually without needing to heal. I used basically all my potions, had to conserve, and almost all my water fighters below CP 1300 were used up as well training the gym up. But, I finally got it to level 10, and nobody stuck anything bad in! Usually when I leave a slot in a gym, someone sticks something stupid like a CP 50-300 worthless hunk of junk, but nobody put anything below CP 1800 in! The gym now has CP 1753 Snorlax, CP 1876 Arcanine, CP 1891 Lapras, CP 1926 Snorlax, CP 2016 Exeggutor, CP 2055 Snorlax, CP 2087 Vaporeon, CP 2202 Arcanine, CP 2219 Snorlax, CP 2224 Vaporeon.

Saddest part is, the guy who put the Flareon got knocked out when someone knocked the gym down to 49,500 prestige. Another person obviously built it up and put the bottom Snorlax in, but it's brutal how unfair life is.

Guy who put the Flareon in the bottom of that gym, you da real MVP!

This gym is mine. If it ever gets taken down, I will walk back down and retake it, till the end of time and potions.

4) CP 2320 Vaporeon with Water Gun and Hydro Pump. This one is in a gym located on the same bridge connecting my city to the next one. The bridge has memorial pillars, and a sidewalk for walking across. Cars go across it as well, but it would be extremely dangerous for them to stop and park at the memorial pillar to battle the gym, so only pedestrians can access it.

I stuck this guy here a few days ago as well. I plan to go back and try to build the gym up from it's current level of 5 to level 10 when I have time, but there's a CP ~1500 Clefairy at the bottom now, and that's almost as tough for building up as Wigglytuff, so those might just stagnate and eventually fall. Still, good location has held it up for this long.

5) CP 1949 Gyrados with Bite and Twister. This gym is located on a street that is extremely busy and even at 3am would be dangerous to sit and park on, not to mention illegal. Therefore, it only gets foot traffic. However, if there is a slot open someone in a car driving slowly by can drop a fighter in quickly. This is why I built it up and left a slot open, it is at level 5 currently, and my Gyrados is in the 3rd slot I believe.

I hope to build this one up to level 10 also when I get a chance, as it's such a busy street I can hope some people drop some high CP fighters in the slots I leave open.

6) CP 1725 Tentacruel with Poison Jab and Hydro Pump. This was a level 5 gym, located in a small town near my city, and it was in a park where you can't access it by car. You have to get out of the car and walk, only about a minute, but clearly that has been a deterrent enough. I'll build this one up more if I'm in the area, but I'm already pleasantly surprised that it'd held this long.

I'll feel like I can relax when I have 10+ gyms level 10 all constantly generating coins. It's not even about the coins, really, it's about the 5k stardust, same as catching 50 guys in the wild, so hopefully I get to that point.

Cliffs: 5 out of the 6 longterm gyms I hold cannot be battled from inside a car.

Thanks for the reply Alaskan, a lot of great info. Your theory on the "park distance" makes a lot of sense. I will have to keep that in mind. I also like that you train it up so that people can swing by and stick a pokemon in. Much more likely that you will get someone to just place something there then to sit and train it up and then place.

I am a little confused on the collection of stardust/coins. There is only one counter on the shop page. But when I have multiple gyms, it just shows a 2 or 3 or whatever and still one counter.

So what happens if I hold 1 gym for 20 hours and then get into say 2 other gyms right before the 21 is up and at the end have 3 held. Do I get credit for all 3? Or do I get credit for 1, then the counter starts over at 21 minus the time I held the other gyms for?

For a few you get candy every 1 km (Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Pika), some its one every 3m, and some its 1 every 5km.

You can say "zombies" about anything and make it bad.

"Look at all those zombies nodding their heads in the crowd"

"Bunch of zombies pushing carts at the supermarket"

"Omg you're such a zombie walking around outside with your phone instead of sitting in Starbucks looking at Facebook."

I didn't force them to , they were actually kind of entranced by the game.

So last Friday my sister had a business dinner, and brother-in-law was fishing in Canada. So I had my sisters kid for the night. This corresponded to an open house at my nieces elementary school. The whole open house was Pokemon related. Go wander the school and get pokemon cut outs from a coloring book.

So yeah 10 year old niece ran the show

7 year old niece and 5 year old nephew tagged along

They all knew every single pokemon that was cut out

One thing that caught my eye was a display of brochures of "What you geek out to"

Yeah Pokemon Go won convincingly (though I was stunned by a Dr Who display for kids that age).

But end of rambling...

Pokemon Go has actually managed to make Pokemon Gen 1 relevant to my generation and my nephews/nieces generation, which is an absolutely remarkable thing

Anyone know if I set a dratini as buddy (5k) than change him after 3k for some other pokemon, does he keep the 3k if I put him back in later on?

Not necessarily want to do that, just realised I had a few other ones close to evolution I should switch my dratini for, but don't want to waste the Ks.
