I bought this game yesterday after seeing the bump.

Having fun so far after a few hours into it.

I already posted to the steam thread, but I'll post here as well:

Did anyone else back Torment: Tides of Numenera? Although the release is Q1 2017, it seems the game has been pretty much finished since june (last months are for minor tweaks and translations to other languages) and any backer can redeem their key for Steam, which will both allow Beta access and act as the key for the final product.

You can get the key here:

Right now you only get access to a small part of the game right?

Going to play because I'm a sucker for rpgs but really didn't enjoy PoE that much so not expecting a lot.

Yeah this, I quite like the idea of being able to design own spells though.

I didn't love PoE, I will wait and hear some reviews before getting tyranny.

PoE definitely wasn't perfect but it's size/scope/ambition were great, and I've a lot of faith in Obsidian.

I liked POE but got kind of exhausted by the move here kill mob move here kill mob, move here kill mob ad infinitum.

The problem with PoE's encounter design was that too many mobs consisted solely of melee enemies, which did get tiresome. There were some fights where the enemy party had a mix of melee, ranged and casters. Those were great fun, reminiscent of IE games at their best, but there weren't enough of those.

The White March expansion (p1) is the worst culprit and is what killed the game for me, going through that dungeon/forge was WOAT level design imo, just a repetitive grind.

Looks like you're not in luck regarding combat then...

Another review said much the same about the combat. It's surprising that Obsidian can't get this right given how much experience they have with these type of RPGs.

I think its just a flaw with isometric RPG.

You have to do a lot with combat to plaster over the fact that mobs are just standing there like statues waiting to be triggered. After a while it really smashes immersion.

Decent AI is something that is lacking in a lot of RPGs I find. In more tactical combat games especially, where it doesn't take long to figure out, and exploit, exactly what the enemy is going to do.

Probably not worth starting a new thread, but anyone else playing Deadfire?

I'm really liking it at the moment, especially having it feel a bit more open-worldy.

Still useless with the ship/combat though. I just keep running away then feeding my crew fruit and rum to keep them happy.

That's just an issue with rpgs in general and d&d style rpgs in particular. Like you never get to the ancient temple and the bad guy has finished his deadly ritual packed his stuff and left. Everyone is always just waiting for the players to show up.

Finished PoE 1 today. I guess it was ok. Way too much info dumps, really made me appreciate Bioware games more where I see things instead of have them described to me. The skill checks were fun, the mob battles really boring. Hopefully PoE 2 is better.

Keep your saved game as decisions you made are used in 2.

Been a little while since I played the original, but, from what I remember, Deadfire feels smoother (less info dumps). The fighting still feels the same, kinda just plonking a tank or two upfront.

I wish this game was every way more like Tyranny (Another Obsidian RPG from 2016) but with a bigger budget.

Every group member is too nice, every moral dilemma is a pretty lame choice, the open map is not really working that well, music is a bit too mellow, the game somewhat lacks style and spirit in both writing and in graphics. It's just not keeping me engaged with the story or the characters.

The combat is better imo than in the first one.

I bought Tyranny and hated it. I didn't like how you started off as an already powerful person, and then it was like WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO FAVOR? FACTION A OR B? and I was like, I have no idea who these people are. I'm not going to read exposition text to figure it out. As a result I just couldn't get into the game at all and got rid of it pretty quickly.

Pillars of Eternity would have been right up my alley if the combat hadn't been so one-dimensional. I finished the game and had a pretty good time, but the combat was tedious.

After playing #2 for about 10 hours, it feels all-around better than the first one. Much less time spent on world building and more time on factions and small encounters. I especially like those mini-events you encounter all the time on the map where there are skill checks. The naval combat sucks though.

Multiclasses are OP, went with Paladin + Chanter for MC. I assume you want to multiclass everyone who is not spell caster.
