Re: PC Gaming hardware discussion

I did read about those 4K 144s! They sound awesome, but I'll have to be happy with my current monitors for now. Maybe for my birthday!

Re: PC Gaming hardware discussion

i'm getting one now. only have half - trying to decide on a case and cooler now and looking for a good deal on ram.

so far got gigabyte z270 ultra-gaming mb, 7700k, 650w g2 evga power supply. i had some 2400mhz ram but returned, figured i'll look for a deal on some 3k over memorial day.

i've been reading about water coolers and that they're loud, and that my mb runs a bit hot and so does the 7700k. anyone plan to delid their processor? seems pretty easy with this https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/ and drops temps 20+c. might get away using a fan for cooling instead of water if i do that, but i don't know if i'd care about the noise from a water cooler anyway.

Re: PC Gaming hardware discussion

I would go Asus for the ssd and faster processor over battery every time. I can't remember a time I was gaming on my laptop for an extended period and didn't have it plugged in. Not sure how AMD laptops work but intel's normally disable the 2nd graphics card and use onboard graphics when unplugged from power.

Re: PC Gaming hardware discussion

Think I saw dell had some similar laptops with a sixth gen i5 and gtx1050. After my last gaming laptop I'm pretty against AMD for gaming, so others will have to vouch for that being enough horsepower.

i5-7300 with a gtx1050 and 1TB HDD is $699
i5-7300 with a gtx1050 and 256gb SSD is $799
i5-7300 with a gtx1050ti and 256gb SSD is $849

Better than AMD? Worth $100 for SSD and $50 for slightly better graphics?

(Dell)

Dunno about graphics for civ6 needing ti levels of gfx, but I'd splurge on ssd. Hundred to swap isn't bad at all iirc

you'd be surprised at what civ games need graphics wise.

i'd personally spend the extra money on the 1050ti and 256gb ssd

Re: PC Gaming hardware discussion

Avoid less than a gtx1050. Way increased performance for your buck and way less power demands. It was a huge graphical capability leap.

Max-Q laptops going to be frigging amazing.... especially when they come with six core/eight core chips later. I will finally be able to use one machine to do everything.

That's sexy. Put some money into prettying up your setup now. Cable management, desk, and chair... and stuff. That case is just too lonely sitting on the floor by itself.

I do both commercial and residential AVL work (audio video lighting) we often get jobs to go to some stupidly rich persons house to clean up messes that look exactly like the picture above. Lots of velcro and zip ties.
