G903 most of the time. It feels closest to the MX518s I used for literally over a decade. G502 is another one I use at home.

That said, these things aren't as "tough". My G903 is actually a warranty replacement for a G900 (which died in just over 2 years). One of the stickers at the bottom of G502 tore off a few weeks ago (with no noticeable impact on ability to glide)

I am on my computers easily 10+ hours a day on average.

I tried a lot of mice for a while. Nothing felt quite right except the G900. Even the G502 took a while to get used to for me.

That said, computer mouse is about personal preference as it gets. When I was researching gaming mice, I noticed the streamers and pros basically cover all the brands and some even had their own posts on why they picked certain brands and it really all comes down to feel and preference.

So go to bestbuy, buy them all, try them all out and return whatever you don't like.

I think my EGPU box power supply died, taking the 1080ti inside with it.

It didn’t go up in smokes exactly but when I touch the box, my entire arm goes numb so I guess power is leaking. Card doesn’t boot when I put it in desktop.

Oh well, at least it mined enough crypto to pay for itself.

What a shame.

sounds like some time on the phone with customer service is in the future, i would guess an electrocuting box is worth their concern

It's out of warranty so I am not going to bother.

I just don't see the need for cutting edge graphics anymore. Games (maybe just the engines?) all seem to be designed with consoles and maybe even mobile in mind, and that basically puts a soft cap on their demands on hardware.

Demands that midrange gaming laptops readily meet.

Bear in mind this probably all goes out the window in at most 18 months - next gen consoles will reset the 30fps baseline to around today's mid-high end gaming PC.

I think this would only be true if you don't play online multiplayer. The main reason for that is the huge advantage you get if you can get 144+ FPS at high resolution.

I am getting 100+ FPS (avg 120+) at 1440p on a laptop 1070 in Overwatch with ultra-details so I think mid to low range cards handle online multiplayer just fine as it is.

Next gen consoles are 2020? 2022? I'd actually be surprised if it's going to be rendering AAA titles at 60FPS at the equivalent of ultra-settings. I suspect it's going to be an optimized version of something equivalent to 2080 (which by then will be equivalent to 3060/3070 or whatever, or PC mid-range) and some compromise on quality to get 4k@60FPS.

2020 at the latest imo, I consider the Google Stadia almost a "next gen console" and that is this year (10.7TF Radeon Vega of sorts). PS4 was I am sure supposed to be this year, which is probably a possibility any more but who knows - Sony are skipping E3 and doing something themselves (nothing seems unfathomable?). It is almost certain MS will be revealing their next gen Xbox in two months at E3 this year, for a likely 2020 launch. PS4 and Xbox One are 6 years old now, from their reveals.

I think it's pretty unlikely they use this bump to get 60fps across the board - graphics sell much better than framerate to most. So we probably see 2070+ ish GPU (Radeon version tho, the as yet unseen Navi) being used to push 4K @ 30fps. And not ultra settings - looking like very high/ultra today, but that will be the new "medium".

What I'm saying is, consoles define what is AAA 30fps medium, at the popular resolution of the day.

Google being a streaming thing will want 60fps for the latency benefits (their beta was 1080p/30 tho).

Right now though yeah, ~1070 is still very solid for most purposes.

Overwatch is a pretty well-tuned game, so I'm not surprised. With apex legends I get an average of about 120fps at 1080p, using a 1070Ti (not top of the line but not trash either, probably better than the average gaming laptop?)

With PUBG I am lucky to ever break 90 fps at 1080p.

Pro gamers are going for 240fps but I don't have a monitor that supports that so I don't bother.

We're really deep into the playable/awesome range though... with mid-range cards released 1.5 years ago.

You're not wrong. My perspective is skewed because of the games I play and certain nerd opinions I have.

id be pretty surprised if top end devs care about consoles keeping up with them. next engine to break the cards is always the best for a while, but its just the ebb in the wave. consoles are purposefully built and never really gonna overtake desktops in power

Don’t discount 5g as making gaming thin-clients a viable alternative.

I mean, I guess we'll see, but the world has tried thin clients many times, most of them of over LAN, and they've failed every time so far.

Google Stadia was run over basically ideal network conditions and still had noticeable lag and graphics degradation.

There is a reason most companies still provide their workers (especially those that often work remotely, and other than for people who basically only do word processing) with local copies of the software (which is very expensive from license and IT support perspective): thin clients are still laggy as **** even under near ideal network conditions.

Thanks to Linus Tech Tips, I discovered Logitech released a MX518 "Legendary." Ordered one on Newegg. Please let it be good.

Can't wait to get the legendary next to the OG, 400s, and the new guys.

The new mice are great. I love using the G903 but it just feels more fragile and I had to buy a custom case to carry it around. The G903 in the picture is actually a warranty claim replacement for a G900. A wireless MX518 Legendary would be a dream come true.

MS intellimouse optical definitely the grand OG, arguably the first well executed optical mouse, but MX518 was such a significant improvement and reigned supreme for so long I think MX518 deserves the GOAT label more.

I really like the Wireless G603 for my office desk. It's got a nice form factor that is reminiscent of the 518. It's got a lot of customization as far as DPI and multiple settings go, but once it's dialed in it's a very nice mouse. I got tired of my G500's cord always catching on things.

I've been a Logitech fan for a long time. They only other mice I've used have been Razer Nagas during my WoW days.
