Just killed Dominus normal with <1k hp and ~40 resists with my cold witch. Had to use a few portals but almost died like 5 times lol. My build is pretty unoptimized for my level and I didn't want to buy gear so I just said f it I'll just reroll if I die. I know I'll die soon playing like this but it's fun!

Yeah, I did that too. Died at 41. Then quickly made another guy died at 5. Then I died at 26 for some unknown reason.

not at all. is it going to start getting tough for me? I've been running around tossing fire traps and then split arrow / fire arrow. also using hatred.

You can pretty much do whatever you want in normal.

But if you want to do the harder modes in hardcore, you'll need hp/resists/synergy between skill gems and your passives.

As you get higher, you can link gems with each other, like you can add life steal and multiple arrows to your arrows. You'll also be able to bump your evasion rating a ton and then convert your evasion to armor.

There are a ton of skills obviously. Either take the time to figure out which passives you want and kind of map it out. Or figure out which skill you like using the most and Google a build for it. It gets expensive to respec a whole character and if you have to level up skills and change gear to be better at that spec, you're gonna have a tough time.

I think using all fire type things is bad because if something is resistant to fire, you'll never kill it.

Most people use "add fire damage" gem to their stuff. If you're using burning arrow, maybe use "add lightning damage" and use the aura that adds cold damage( I think it's anger? Maybe hatred I forget). So now you will do physical, fire, lightning, and cold in 1 shot. There are other things that buff the monster's resist to 1 type of element but makes them extremely vulnerable to the other 2 elements.

Finally made it to Merciless Dom. Kind of regretting the fact that I spent almost all day yesterday playing, slept for 2 hours, and then played through the night when I have a couple important things I need to do.

But with that said, something serious needs to be done with the Sceptre of God and the Dominus fight. The framerate spikes, lag, desyncs, whatever they are, are absolutely awful. My graphics and textures are down on the lowest setting and the Shadows are turned off. Doesn't even make a difference.

yeah that fight is pretty atrociously unoptimized, on merciless i always beat it using tp portal abuse.

There's no reason to play hc now since it has an old almost broken economy. When you die, make a new character in nemesis.

Going 1h + shield. So far mostly smashing with ground slam + molten shield or heavy blow for single target.

It's better to go the bottom path to heart of gladiator: -15% critical strike damage is pretty good late game. You also want the life nodes. Are you in nemesis?

Ya, nemesis. Damn, thought I read that troll's blood was bad so I went top path. Any suggestions for what paths I should go down moving forward?

Uniques seem a lot more common than Legendaries in D3, I got 6 I think. Also I pretty much sell all blue items w/o ID'ing unless they've got the ideal colored gem slots.

I'd just drop the flask improvements and go down the critical strike route - it's fine to have the +armour from the top path. Troll's blood is fine, life regen is handy. If you're just looking to get to early merciless then start over (which I also think is fine), something like:

You'll need some damage nodes probably, depending on whether you go physical sword or elemental.

The only blues I ID are high ilvl rings with high intrinsic rolls and flasks (surgeon's flasks are worth 1 alch shard).

What do you mean starting over at early merciless? Is there a time when you can get a full respec or something?

Can you get rid of passives and retain skills further down that path still?

you can get 18 free refund points throughout the game from quest rewards (so 6 for each difficulty)

also you can use orb of regrets but they're more expensive and are worth around 1 chaos at this moment in nemesis

I was thinking more along the lines of getting to a1 merciless (or aiming to) with your first char to learn the game, then starting over when you know what you're doing.

I think you need a specific build in mind to survive a3 merciless or maps and those tend to be a bit ****tier early on. It's also much much easier to level once you save your gear from the first time round.
