Re: Path of Exile

All these new skills and ailments are confusing me

I can make terrible builds, thinking they'll be brilliant, perfectly fine already, without all these muddling matters.

Re: Path of Exile

So, uh. I started playing like 10 days ago. Before I realized it, I got a lvl 84 righteous fire juggernaut and I am wondering what I am supposed to do now.

Maps seem to be stuck at lvl 4 with occasional 5s and 6s. Zana doesn't replenish her stock often so I am at a loss on what to do now. Do labyrinths? Those are so tedious...

Oh, and new league build recommendations? I am trying to browse the forums but they are kind of hard to read for a noob.

Re: Path of Exile

are you alching or transmuting/augmenting your maps or just running them white? your sustain is way, way too low at those levels.

zana will be different this league such that her quests will give atlas progress. this is a buff. fwiw jugg is good for lab if that's what you enjoy, but you arent pigeonholed into anything.

just hold tight and start the league tomorrow. what builds do you like? melee? caster? ranged? there has been discussion recently about strong starter builds that involve arc, glacial cascade, or some new skills we don't know a whole lot about. these are caster builds. they're good and pretty easy to roll with. if that's not your style, we can help.

Re: Path of Exile

if he started 10 days ago and is lvl 84(which is pretty good for a beginner) im guessing its his first character .

I have no idea what to recommend right now tbh. Like the simplest build would be some kind of hierophant with arc totems or something, but about 60% of the community completely loathes palying anything totem related, I kinda hate the playstyle myself too. (yes i know arc mines is very similar yet it feels good to me )

Re: Path of Exile

D3 exile (sort of?). I actually picked up the game because some comment in a Youtube video about Diablo Immortal said PoE is way better than D3.

My preferred builds in D3 were whirlwind, frozen orb, and meteor. I never was deep into the grifts though. I am a filthy casual gamer now and I intend to stay this way.

My first toon was actually a lvl 56 witch that was raising mass skellies. I rebooted because I had no idea about the resistance penalty going into Act 6 so my witch was just getting one shotted left and right and I had no way to really recover.

Re: Path of Exile

Yeah, I've been using white tokens. Should I make them blue/yellow and/or use the chisel to upgrade?

Re: Path of Exile

As a very general rule I use:

Orb of Transmutation on white maps
Orb of Alchemy on yellow maps
Orb of Alchemy on red maps + chisels and Vaal Orbs on higher tier ones

Also using sextants on maps you like to run/have a lot of will help with sustain, as they can increase mob sizes/drops.

Another tip - when using chisels, always do it on a map of 'normal' rarity (you can use an Orb of Scouring to do this).
It will increase the quality of the map by 5% each chisel. If you use them on rare maps it's only 1%.

I mean it's not bad to do, I just save all my alcs for reds.

I cbf'd to trade currency unless I have to in trade leagues and in ssf I am conservative with currency.

I started using fossils to upgrade maps because I had so many damn fossils and I seemed to get less physical reflect maps that way.

I didn't play any of Delve, so guess I've got a bit to catch up on how everything works there.

It's not terribly complicated, but it's not obvious where to find the good stuff if you just are going into the mine the first time.

Fossil crafting is a fun and clever crafting system. Depending on what you are crafting and what you want to make from it, you can have quite a bit of control over what you craft. This is an excellent resource to see how one or more fossils affect the affixes you might get when you roll. Fossils that eliminate rather than just reduce whole classes of affixes can be really nice (e.g., metallic), and grouping 2 or 3 together can make it highly likely to get an affix you want. For other fossils, like perfect fossils that increase quality and hollow fossils that add abyssal sockets, use them one at a time to set the corresponding aspect first, and then use your fossil combination to reroll the affixes. Some fossils, such as frozen, scorched, and aberrant fossils, weren't worth much last league, so they were a slightly cheaper way to reroll a poorly rolled map compared to scour and alch. That might not be true this time around.

~All fossils in the mine are not on the garden path where you just follow the crawler and do the mission when it stops. Fossils will be off to the sides in the dark where you take damage if you don't have your resistances up and flares with you, and this time around, they're not just going to be in the easily accessible nooks off to the side. They'll mostly be hidden behind walls you have to blow up with dynamite (look for a wall of hexagonal pillars).

In the mine, think of it as a grid of nodes and paths. Every node in the grid may or may not have a mission node where you can send your crawler along the paths to light the way for you. The missions are highlighted by little icons, and are generally only notable if they are a golden chest in a city, or a boss fight of some sort, although you'll need to hit plenty of azurite mission nodes at the start to get your resistances up, fund your flares and dynamite, expand sulphite capacity, etc. A node might be empty, or it can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 paths leading in/out of it. Every node with exactly 2 paths leading out of it (like, it's a straight line path through the node) is guaranteed to have a wall off to the side you can blow up. If it's a mission node with two paths, that fractured wall will usually lead to a mission node that looks like it has no ways in or out, but that will now appear when you blow up the wall. You sometimes have to go pretty deep in these to find the wall to blow up. For non-mission nodes with 2 paths, they'll usually just have the wall shortly off the side of the path that will have a dead end behind the wall with a cache of misc. chests and fossils. This is where you get the fossils and the resonators to use them. Taking paths where you have long stretches of nothing but 2-path non-mission nodes (basically, what looks like a long stretch of nothing but unforked paths) to a mission node, doing the mission, and then backtracking to find the walls to blow up is one of the best ways to farm fossils. There will be other side areas off the main path not behind walls that can be explored (they will tend to be one node's worth of game space deep but not shown on the mine map, but they can be 2 or 3 or sometimes even 4 nodes deep). They'll have a chest or azurite or a weapon/armor rack at each node, but probably not as many fossils or resonators as could be found in these last league.

Cheers Wookie! Sounds complicated, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

Usually at the beginning of the league there are a bunch of us in guild chat too.

For a few past leagues now people in the guild were online for the majority of the duration of the league actually, which is nice.

This is how I feel as a noob trying to read up on crafting system. I actually find it worse than the tax code, which at least, for the most part, has internally consistent logic.

PoE crafting system is just like a bunch of glued together systems, not all of which work together.
