Okay so apparently if you quit to login near the beginning of an area it doesn't instantly log you out unless you've been there a bit. Like there's like a hidden timer or something.

Just lost my main char on Invasion because of this. Walked a few steps down from waypoint and there was a rare mob coming at me (wasn't right on me yet) but I was losing a bunch of life. So I mashed all my instapots and quit to login with 2300 life left. Hi standard.

Someone told me quitting to character select would have worked. Would have been nice to know so figured I'd let you guys know. Bleh

There is no hidden timer. You were probably already lagged out and dead before you could do anything. Exiting to login screen is the fastest.

When you make a new instance there is a 45 second timer to when your character can leave the instance if you disconnect.

Kripp talking about it after asking Chris

I've been having some packet loss lately and some days I disconnect often. I never died though even in close calls. This was the first time it happened right away in a new instance so RIP.

I don't think quitting to character select would have made any difference though, but that's what someone told me.

Ok after goggles testing the 45 second thing (he said his char left game right after pulling the plug) my new guess is that I was desync'd and then had packet loss which delayed the game from realizing I had quit to login.

I'll admit to being a pansy.... I don't have the patience and fortitude to lose a HC character to desync. I'll RIP all day to my own dumb mistakes, but if I died due to desync I'd go into pure rage mode.

So I'm grinding maps at this point and... meh. Kinda feel like I must be doing it wrong. I feel like using 4 chisels + an alch then using a chaos if the map ****s out with +75% fire resist or blood magic (since I'm CI), I'm breaking even on currency at best. I was steadily accumulating when I was doing 66-70 maps and just using trans and alts, but now that I'm into actually pimping out maps in the 71-73 range it feels very much like I've gone from "currency accumulation" to "currency management."

If your goal is to accumulate wealth then spending orbs on 70+ maps is a mistake, doing those maps is more about getting more exp/hour.

Yeah, I've been more or less following this, which recommends alchs at 69 and full on chiseling at 70.

I think that to get by on those maps you need 50-100 iir as well as the ability to survive in them

I would save the chisels for your highest maps in the hopes that they will drop higher ones. Like If you have a bunch of 71/72 maps and only a couple 73, chisel the 73s and maybe you'll get lucky and get some 74/75 maps. Then chisel those and see how it goes.

Otherwise yeah it will get pretty expensive and when you get to the higher maps you'll have to buy a bunch more cause you ran out.

I haven't looked at that map resource thread in over a year but he had questionable advice back then. It's ok to go off of as a little guide but I wouldn't follow it as exact truth.

I would never chisel a level 70 map. I solo'd up to 71 maps building a fairly large pool on my own. I still have around 30 assorted 70-72 maps that I never rolled or ran and I've used 0 chisels. I also never dipped much into my resources to get maps. I don't think I ever bought a map above level 68 but I did buy a lot of 67-68s.

I dunno how much has changed but basically what I did was use alts like crazy to get decent rolls on all my maps below 68. I also waited until I hit about 30 maps of the next level before even touching them, I did this until level 68.

Then I started alching like 80% of my 69 maps, and alch'd all the 70s. Back then I would alt maze the 69s tho, I don't think that exists anymore.

Even spending a ton of alts you will make the currency back, at least in hardcore. Over the long run I made a huge profit, especially if you factor in selling good item drops.

Your goal is to break even on rolling the maps and assume alts=alchs=chaos to keep buying alts/alchs/maps so you can always keep going and getting more experience. Then it's like every item drop you get is pure profit while you get the free exp.

When I stopped on HC I had around 40 exalts, 200 chaos, 300 alchs, 30 regals, etc.. Keep in mind this was close to 15 months ago. The best drop I ever had in maps sold for 10 exalts but most of the drops were in the <= 1-2 exalts range, and tons of 10-20ish chaos drops.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPP level 60 ranger died soloing dom (cruel), final form, didn't make it to my portal by a split second apparently (hit it, and it took me to the log in screen where it broke the bad news I wasn't in invasion any more)

I think I need to redo my build, it is probably poorly tuned. (though getting to doms final form was easy, but the final form was brutal)

Gonna try ambush for the rest of tonight before rerolling on invasion.

I died on Sunday. It was the rogue exile that summons statues but they also all exploded when I hit them, which insta killed me. Not sure what the skill was...

Anyone got any interesting things to reroll? The idea of dual-totem-freezepulse sounds kind of fun, but does it work lategame? Aren't totems too fragile?

I am kind of resigned to playing a bow ranger at least until I get to where I can do maps. I think I like SA with puncture for kiting and poison for general dotting larger groups while kiting. I just need to figure out the survival part better. Probably I should get some armor nodes. I think my life was fine, and at least I have good leveling gear now to 50ish.

Great One's CI dual totem guide

That guy knows his stuff pretty well, and he's also a really good racer. I played a freezing pulse totem guy in nemesis and it's one of the funnest guys I've played. You do pretty good damage, and bring a lot of utility with constant freezing and shock stacks. The totems might be a bit fragile vs the real heavy hitters, but it's not a big deal to just spam them.

Thanks, it sounds pretty fun. The only downside is that I have to go searing bond/flameblast til 70. The upside is that there's a four day weekend coming up...

video of a guy getting lvl 10 in a 12 minute burst. He gets lucky with a +1 fire weapon and good pack size, but still really impressive.
