I won't be picking up RoS. D3 was a massive disappointment for me.

I was underwhelmed by Starcraft 2, but I liked it enough to still pick up the expansion. D3 was fun for about five hours and then just a repetitive grind. Not getting tricked into paying $40 for what is undoubtedly a minimal amount of unique gameplay.

Most likely scenario: I'll pick it up in a few years for $5, play it once, and forget about it.

whatever, I was the one of the loudest haters on d3 on this forum now I'm getting mocked just because everyone takes it for granted that ros will suck the same as vanilla, such point of view is certainly not ignorant

Played the **** out of D3, I even have $100 stuck on battle.net that I can't cash out from the RMAH. Ask me if I'm going to be spending it on RoS.

The game design of D3 is just aids. An expansion with new content and a new class isn't going to change it. PoE gameplay and design is just worlds better. If it wasn't free to play I'd still take it over D3 in a heartbeat.

D3 was ok for mindless fun, they just simplified everything too much (the skills, the items, no builds, etc.) to the point where it just became totally uninteresting.

Completely agree with that. It was just mashing the same button combos over and over again, didn't care if you die (I guess hardcore would be a little more intense), didn't care if you got loot except for uniques, basically didn't care about anything because it was just that - mindless and uninteresting.

Yeah I agree, PoE so much better than D3 in so many ways, and its free.

With a mini expansion in PoE upcoming, I'm tempted to give it another go, but for D3, I'm not going to buy the expo, which is essentially one more act and once new class, until it drops in price, maybe around xmas time will be good for that.

Thanks alot guys, from all the posts i def will not get d3. Poe is just so much better. Diablo really is just so bland. When i watched kripp do his beta run on it, i thought it was insanely boring.

I guess I'm a sucker then. I just can't get that into PoE. I burn out before maps every single time I try out a new character. I have fun for a week at most and then lose interest for months. I've got a lot more hours on d3 and even Torchlight 2....I guess I just like the shiny items or something.

Try a race on PoE, they are immense fun, short term competitions some of them are.

New league starting with the new mini expo,
so i'm curious to find out what the special modifiers are this time.

Think my best is like lvl 63 merciless (hardcore only i play) before dying, got a few maps in my inventory that i haven't used yet, this is to give me incentive to play again.

Sunk 100s of hours into this, and burnt out a little yeah and taking a break from it right now. Tempted to re start with the expo again.

The good thing about the game is that the gameplay is pretty different depending on your build. And there are a lot of viable builds.

I think one thing to be learned from D2 & PoE vs. D3 is that designing the game so that it's required you to make many new characters over and over, with different builds, requiriing different types of items, etc., is the far superior model in terms of making things interesting and giving the game longevity.

POE could use some of the interface friendliness that D3 has, and some of the combat mechanics and some of the polish. But the actual structure of the game is where it wins.

Yeah, the controls struck me as slightly stiff at first but you get used to it pretty quick.

It's not a surprise that a small group like GGG wouldn't be able to create nearly as smooth and fancy an engine a behemoth like Blizzard is.

Has anyone here ever actually found an eternal orb? or a mirror?

I've been playing probably a year on and off and found like maybe 7-8 exalted orbs, but never an eternal or mirror LDO.

My main issue with D3 was almost entirely the lack of content.

Sorry, but putting out a game with 5-8 hours of content and then just putting it on repeat for higher difficulty levels is not worthy of a triple A title. PoE repeats the same mistake but gets around it to some degree because the builds are so varied that there's a reason to keep progressing. Not so in D3.

I had a great time playing through D3 the first time. Then after I killed Diablo and it just dropped me back at the beginning of the game, I was just left thinking, "Wait, where's the rest of the game I ****ing paid for?" Yeah, the leveling system would be uninspired, but if it took 20-30 hours to finish the game the first time around (with unique bosses, locations, monsters, etc.), my opinion of D3 would be very, very different. I just can't overlook all the other flaws in the game when it's also a shell of a game with almost no content. Hell, they could have left the game as is but left the genuine randomness of D1 and D2 and I probably would have been happy.

I mean.... I'll give Space Invaders and Pac Man a pass for the "repeat the same content over and over" game model since they were practically running on hamster wheels and punch cards, but there's no excuse for it in 2014. It's just pure laziness.

That's Blizzard in a nutshell though - they are the true experts in getting the fun:grind ratio just right so they can stretch a minimum of content into maximum hours of play.

I installed the game Feb 9th 2013. I've had a fair few chars in the high 70s, one in the mid 80s. I've found 4 exalt, no eternal, no mirror. Best item I've found and sold was 25c (and that was weird, it was just a 5L red armour quite early on last server)

I found an eternal orb. Oddly enough, I didn't find any exalted orbs through all of Nemesis, and I played most of it. No mirror, obv.

Those only drop from +lvl 58 zones, and I think mirrors only in maps.

Or I could be wrong.

all currency drops everywhere in poe, even in the hillock starting zone(with the exception of tp scrolls in that area for obv reasons). With out tp scrolls in the starting area, people theorize that mirrors have a higher chance of dropping there.

Ive played hundreds of hours with multiple lvl 70+ heroes. I found 0 exalts/eternals/mirrors/divines. But i did find a 6 link chest piece which sold for 5-6 exalts in onslaught.

"Technically a few orbs start dropping at levels higher than 1 (fusings, chisels, for example) so yes, mirrors and exalted orbs are a tiny amount more likely to drop at very low levels. "
