Current PTR: Rez is still on a 30 second cooldown throughout a match. Ult gives you an extra rez that can only be used during ult.
lmao, I'm so bad that I thought this was the current mechanic.

Yeah, it's not good. I was low-mid gold last season and placed somewhere around 2000 this season (don't remember the exact number). I've barely played this season since placements because it just hasn't been fun.

I tried one game today for the first time in a couple weeks and had one guy who was the last to choose his player (I picked fourth and chose Mercy because she's almost a must pick right now and we only had one healer) and picked McCree when we already had 3 DPS and no tanks. It was too late for me to switch, as we had to get our defenses setup.

The rest of the game, he talked nonsense, saying things that defied interpretation. Of course, he also called people on the team "diseases" and "cucks."

Yesterday i had a guy talk without stopping, pure stream of consciousness nonsense. One of the most obnoxious players I've ever encountered on there. Of course he sucked really bad as well.

This is the thing about overwatch, it is at its core a beautiful, infinitely complex, revolutionary game.

To have unique cartoonish characters, while being serious, and offering first-class fps mechanics on top of it all, is really no small accomplishment. The overall polish and balance of the game is a monumental achievement.

However, I think there are 3 main problems with the game currently, all in regards to missing things. 1) lack of heroes 2) lack of low skillcap counter heros 3) lack of stats.

Overwatch lacks characters, plain and simple. To be a great game with the current maps/game modes, etc. it needs much more variety in the form of characters and abilities. It is supremely difficult to accomplish, but if the hero pool was 2X what it is right now, the game would be a much more perfect form of overwatch.

Because of the lack of heroes, the game suffers from being too high skill cap for a general population competitive experience. If people could play more characters with lower skill caps, but more obvious hard and soft counters, it would allow a thriving competitive scene. Right now, if you have 2 players Insta lock soldier and tracer, and be bad/ much worse than the other team, you are losing the game 100%. At low ranks (and so many ranks tbh) soldier is going to have gold damage/gold elims and blame his team. It creates positive feedback for him, frustrates the team, and no one comes away feeling like they learned or improved.

If instead, a thinking player could switch to a fairly obvious hard counter for the other teams dps/tanks/etc (or ask his teammate to switch, an ask that is no longer insulting, but obvious and smart), it would open up entirely new comps and play styles.

I feel like there are many heroes with no hard counter, that counter a huge # of characters themselves. Reaper/junkrat/pharah come to mind.

Um pharah hard counters reaper and especially junkrat.

Pharah has like 3 hard counters herself, too.

Pharah has some soft counters - but usually requires a combination of dual hitscans and/or a hitscan + a zenyatta.

It is a myth that a single soldier 76 or mcree can deal with a pharah on his own. I eat them for breakfast on her, it is trivial to avoid getting killed by them. At worst they are a minor nuisance. When pharah's paired with a support like mercy, GG.

Pharah is like the main example of hard counters, both that she counters and counter her.

We need way more of that but the interaction between pharah/reaper/junkrat/hanzo/soldier/mcree/dva is amazing.

Regarding the Halloween event, is there any reason to play the harder modes? I played the normal mode and won 9 times to max the loot boxes. It's pretty easy to win. Then I tried hard mode and we didn't fair so well. Just curious if there is any reason to play them.

pharah used to wreck junkrat pretty hard but he now has crazy mobility and ability to do throw damage very high

I've always had more trouble with d va than mcree or soldier or even widow

No. Last year, there were achievements for the harder modes. But apparently, there are no achievements for the mode this year.

Use it to get your loot boxes, then play other modes. And I don't think the achievements get you anything. I got some achievements for the Omnic one, but don't even remember the reward. EDIT: I just looked it up. You got sprays for the achivements for uprising. Here are the sprays: https://mic.com/articles/173914/over...ays#.iJWx8iAeP Just realized that I've never seen any of these sprays. So even though I know I unlocked at least one (probably 2) of them, I never equipped it.

I saw people setting up custom junkenstein games for XP, but I tried one and get more experience in a normal quick play match, so I'm not sure the purpose of it.

TL;DR: play it only if you find it fun. On the bright side, you can rather easily get your 9 arcade wins in 9 games, as opposed to the 18 games you'd normally have to play at a 50% win rate.

Thanks. I basically just play normal mode 9 times and got the loot boxes. There really is no reason to play it until a reset other than just having fun shooting things. Sometimes PvE is a little less tilting since it's more predictable.

Turns out there is at least one achievement for Junkenstein: win endless with 6 of the heroes.

I just went looking around at the achievements:

Win Junkenstein's Revenge using each of the 4 heroes.
Win Junkenstein Endless with 6 different heroes.
Win Junkenstein's Revenge on Hard difficulty.
Win Junkenstein's Revenge on Expert difficulty.
Win Junkenstein's Revenge on Legendary difficulty.
Win Junkenstein's Revenge on Hard difficulty with no damage to the door.
Win Junkenstein Endless on Hard difficulty with no damage to the door.
Survive 4 bonus waves in Junkenstein Endless on Expert difficulty.

yeaaaa those goddamn achievements.

ive had so many people leave on Hard as soon as the door takes 1 tic of damage. i almost got it last time, wave 12 and i think a tire snuck in.

ive countered this by just playing normal. im lv 23 so im just trying to get XP but its super annoying to see these achievement hunters **** up the game.

The Mercy nerf is now live. This is the one they ultimately chose.

The casting quality has risen dramatically recently. Camera angles are better and the announcers are better at building narratives now.

Slow motion replay after the rounds to explain the key battles in slow motion would be great. Almost every match has a couple engages that only last a few seconds and all the announcers could say was "xxx blew ults" And, oh, stats. Sometimes you just want to know how many headshots Taimou got on his McCree.

PS: Seagull is an amazing Pharah.

I'd still be much happier if there were an overlay that had an ult meter sum, and a health percentage sum over the teams. It'd make it easier to follow fights if you don't play the game as much as we do.

Can't say I miss competitive much after taking a few weeks off.

QP has still been fun, other than a 4 stack just now spamming "we need a healer!"

lol finally hit lv 25 on alt account/did my placements. 2697

i knew i was base higher. played a few more today and im seemingly averaging about 2675

the games seem better, better coms, i mean its not night and day or anything like that. i feel like i can easily hold my own in plat. only doing solo que, no group ques with bad friends.

new goal? diamond!

it was just annoying to be trapped at 1900-2k for like 3 seasons, when i knew i was clearly better than that. yet a combo of awful RNG for teams and generally worse teammates + playing comp grouped with bad friends = big problem for me. giving it a fresh start was worth it, imo.

sure lots of people can just grind their way out, but i found this way to be much less frustrating and im not an overwatch pro, or even close to.

So the past two weeks I’ve lost around 400 SR and was thinking wtf?! Had a bit of lag but thought whatever. Turns out the joystick in my controller was broken and would move slower than normal intermittently. Switched controllers and currently on an 8 game win streak haha

Big changes on PTR. Ana's damage is up to 70 (from 60). So she can 3 shot 200 health heroes.

But the big change is the Mercy nerf. Rez while during ultimate is unchaged, it's instantaneous. But rez while not in ultimate now takes 1.75 seconds. During that time period, Mercy moves at 75% speed. Also, if she's hacked, stunned, or knocked back during that time period, the rez is canceled.

See the example at 1:00 in: (or, in GIF form at: https://gfycat.com/FrequentAncientBassethound )
