"We feel 120hz is ideal for VR. And yes, PS4 was actually designed to handle native 120 FPS output which we haven't talked about publically in the past."

"Developers building games for VR are encourages to target 120 FPS. But for those looking for high graphics, we offer the option to render games at 60 FPS but output at 120 FPS"

No so i will hold off any further judgement until then. I have only heard and read other peoples opinions.

Not just motion controls. Every bit of tech/new peripheral ever when it comes to gaming.

It isn't just a peripheral, though. It's an entirely new platform. Or you could think of it like back when we first started moving from 2D to 3D gaming, maybe.

Nvidia will be revealing it's VR headset tomorrow afternoon. Motion controls and other gaming peripherals never had the kind of backing that VR is seeing right now. It's not even close. At this point, I don't know who there is left that could be confirmed to not be jumping into VR.

HTC is currently at the top of the list for my first consumer VR purchase.

Sharp once you try any kind of VR, I think you'll see why so many people/companies are getting behind it. It's not just gaming that will benefit from it. Some of the educational and training proposals already sound amazing.

Then there's awesome stuff like this.

I'm still convinced this is going to be the biggest thing in gaming since pong.

Said it before, I don't think 99% of people realise how big a deal it's gonna be

I'm usually pretty far ahead in the queue of people who are sceptical to new technology (not just gaming) that the industry hails as the Next Big Thing.

But I can't think of any gaming technology that has failed after getting such broad support from most of the biggest developers in the business.

And this is a technology that a lot of people have already tried and pretty unanimously been blown away by - it's not just a tech demo shown at a convention.

Add to that that the developers of content for VR are equally enthusiastic and I think it would be one of the biggest surprises in tech history if VR doesn't become absolutely huge in the next couple of years - and not just for gaming.

After seeing impressions from people who have tried both Crystal Cove and Vive, same here. It's going to be very interesting to see what Oculus' next iteration is like, but for now, it seems Valve/HTC have leapfrogged them. It won't matter. Whatever is best at the end of the year is going to be amazing and we'll probably see generational leaps on an annual basis for awhile. I can't wait.

Some exciting reviews! Though looks like they could do with a spell checker!

Is there any word on anything for xbone??? Bit worried as I don't have a ps4 or a particularly powerful pc...

yeah, agree, sharp - it sounds hyperbolic and smug but you simply can't fully comprehend what this is about until you strap one to your face.

i said it before in this thread, but the first hour i had on the dk1/dk2 was some of the most fun i've had in years.

As much as I like thinking about what the future of VR will bring, ideas like wearing this on a real roller coaster seem like a bad direction to go.

Lots of people will have the obvious criticism of "why not just experience the roller coaster?", which I kind of agree with in this case.

I don't see a problem when it's completely optional. The more avenues to get VR onto people's heads the better.

Why not just experience the roller coaster? You can if you want but why not try something new and different? Having options is always good. Like the post you agreed with says, don't judge it until you have tried it.

Building roller coasters is very expensive and building roller coasters that go through completely transformed fantasy landscapes is not even possible. With this you can have roller coaster rides in Paris, London, New York, at the top of Mount Everest, under water, on the moon, through a battle scene from Lord of the rings or anything really without having more than one physical roller coaster.

Yeah VR combined with real life movement would be pretty awesome imo
No one seems to be talking about Hololens, looks pretty cool...?

Vive GDC 2015 review

Quote:
When the headset came off, I had a very primal need to get back into VR. I didn't *want* to get back into VR, I *needed* to. Something was compelling me. I noticed it right away as foreign and was a bit confused about how a VR experience can illicit a drug like response.

I spend a lot of time in VR, so this is very unusual.

I think the primary cause is the content difference, but I can't be sure.

I have been told I am not the only one, and that is kinda cool and also kinda scary. It means awesome things if you are a VR dev as it means VR will spread like an unstoppable virus. They will not be able to make VR headsets fast enough to meet demand - not by a long shot.

The future is awesome. I wonder what kind "government regulations of VR" he's talking about.
Oculus Rift - upcoming next-gen virtual reality headset Quote

I assume that he is referring to regulation of content. I can see where there might be a need for pretty strict regulation depending on the level of presence we are able to achieve. "Ultimate Murder Simulator" might get by with an A rating on a TV. When VR tech reaches the point where the experience becomes almost indistinguishable from reality, though, that might not fly.

VR GTA could raise some interesting/controversial things.. Even first person mode made things feel a bit too 'real'

Killing people with a hatchet in FPV felt a bit wrong!
Oculus Rift - upcoming next-gen virtual reality headset Quote

Seemed to me the idea of regulations was more to limit how much VR one can consume. If the experience is too good you run the risk of people forsaking their actual lives for their virtual ones en masse
