They converted it to first person. I guess the Dolphin Emulator works really well for some games in VR. I haven't tried it yet.

Is the current version of the rift actually fun to play with? I played around with a DK1 a few months ago, and it was cool and all, but it didn't seem like something you would want to play with regularly at that stage.

It's much better than DK1 but still pretty far from what CV1 will be, I think. The screen door effect is much better, but still there. Latency is improved to the point where I can shake my head back and forth and it's not noticeable. The positional tracking is spot on. Motion sickness is gone for most people who were prone to it with DK1.

Half-Life 2 hasn't been updated yet and none of the third-party injectors for games like Skyrim have been yet, either, so I have no idea how much better those will be. Digital Combat Simulator, Live For Speed, and Euro Truck Simulator 2 are all great, but for now, Elite Dangerous is the showcase. Everybody is raving about that. I only have 5-10 hours a week for games, so Elite in VR is more than enough for me for the foreseeable future.

If you're unsure, though, I would wait. Most people seem to think that CV1 will be 1440p, but with Samsung's 4k screens coming out in early 2015, I think that's what Oculus will use. That's going to be a huge leap.

I havent really been using mine. Nothing works properly yet. Elite dangerous you can get to work its very cool but it still needs patched.

I think it'll be worth showing to my friends in a few months but so far I havent shown it to anyone as there is no content for DK2 since developers just got theirs. Most of the content is just from hobbyiests anyway so its never gonna be that great.

It'll be a while before there's anything really good besides ED.

So it seems the most hopeful speculation/expectation is that the consumer version will be out this Christmas? That is quite a bit sooner than I had thought, but it would be awesome if true.

I did some poking about as I'm kinda on the fence about whether to just get DK2 atm, and found this article where Nate Mitchell is interviewed and when asked something like 'are you still on target for a holiday release?' he goes: 'We haven't announced a release date for the consumer version quite yet. We have some more good announcements in the pipeline, so we'll see how it all comes together.' which isn't exactly a "no" at least

Still so excited about this!

I know this is going to be one of those things my mates will be raving about in a year or so and I'll be like 'I told you about this 2 years ago!?' and they'll be like 'naaa'

There's no way. I've seen late 2015 thrown around most places. They're still shipping devkits that were ordered in March.

If I was playing the gamescom promotional teaser with an OR I'm pretty sure I would have a heart attack.

Good article but they failed to mention the biggest danger when it comes to VR.

Lol - I've actually thought of that (if not that exact scenario). The whole situation where you've got glasses and headphones on and are completely oblivious to the outside world brings up a number of concerns regarding people who may walk in on you...

That'll leave anyone trying the handle thinking that you're masturbating though. Add to that that you're probably yelling stuff at the screen while playing and that could get even more awkward...

Cut about 30 seconds of that in to a commercial and you're going to move millions of those.

its not mainstream now?

:-)

Playing proper games like elite and dangerous and my fav, warthunder is truly are some thing to behold, it is beyond a common gamers ability to gauge.

I started gaming on a C64 back in the day then an Amiga.

I can literally get into game and be in a spitfire, a German b109, and fight in the battle of Britain and its like I am actually really in the cockpit.

So I mean to say, go and get into a cockpit in a real Spitfire, well this gives you that same impression.

Today I just added 7.1 tiamat headphones and Asus Phoebus Solo to enhance warthunder which supports 7.1 (so does elite and d)

7 days I will be getting my playseat/car seat gaming cockpit with proper warthog mount (joystick holder centre between legs).

If any one says to you the Dk2 is not all that good or not interesting or crap.

They are lieing to you, its off the hook, its a mental transportation device, I like flying fighter planes, if you can in any way get a dk2 do get one, money is no object, if you are into video games you simply have to have one, I said *** it and instantly started throwing money at things like hotas pedels.

With out question, no hesitation at all one million per cent easily way way, far and ahead the greatest gaming in my life.

I feel exactly the same but I've found that it's generally pointless to say so to people who haven't tried it. It's okay, though. They'll understand before too long.

Can you ****ers just stop this before you convince me not to wait for CV1 please? It's not like it's not hard enough already.

I obviously feel the same as well which is why I can't wait for it to go mainstream so I can to sit front row at an NBA game or walk around the pyramids from my couch.
