Hope its ok to add a little colour to the thread

(warning this is cutting edge of VR game play stuff and not suitable for all, its for the "dedicated" VR player, its a bit OTT but that's what we like?

My pro tube VR has arrived today....I normally SIM race in VR primarily, I also authored a few mods, if you have seen the Ferrari F80 for example.

The really exceptional quality of a recent FPS with in VR, Onward, captured my imagination with regards to the competition element, its like paint ball 5 vs 5 but with BFG's (Big F Guns), audio is directional and there is both localised audio, and "keying up" with your right hand on your left shoulder engages the team radio, roger bleeps included.

I think the following term is really only applied when some thing is beyond exceptional, but yeah this game in VR is pretty F sick.

The ProTubeVR is an apparatus which due to the impressive reality dynamics of rifle control with in Onward (also steam store originally). It (supposedly) can help with stability of your chosen BFG.

So by placing your touch controllers into what is basically metal piping with 3d printed "cup holders", you can hold the virtual gun better in game, well I am going to be finding out. Ill be testing this out and give impressions of use vs standard Oculus room scale and touch only (free roaming hands)

As said game of choice is ONWARD....

You need a standard celling cabling support.

First tips or issues noticed before even going in game.

- I need to remove the cables off the touch they are getting in the way from the full slide into the cups of the touch controllers.
- The strap is well made and the clip is well built not sure what clip it is but its a good one (both ends)
- I like the stock (part that pushes up against your shoulder) feels "legit".
- Its a lot of money for what it is, in theory it should be I would guess more correct to be down at around 70 to 90 euros? but then labour, the fact the guy has put obviously a decent chunk of work into making this happen, "just pay the man his money imo".

Will pop to firing range and see how the furthers target (very far) is hittable via the 12x on some thing.

Current question is reloading requires both touch controllers so these touch devices are going be sliding in and out of these cup holders a lot, going to see how this works out.

If it's anything like the PSVR Aim controller it'll do wonders for the sense of holding a real rifle.

The protubevr is legit aim assist,

For any onward players that know the range, you can aim towards the very furthest back targets on the range and make for headshots (stability). Its a good device, night and day is accurate description.

On the topic of VR (if its ok?)... for fellow Oculus owners.. skip towards 1min51sec to see the size of the optics in this pimax, its unreal. One reviewer said "you dont even see that you wear a headset anymore! It fills the human view nearly to 100%! The high resolution of the both headsets was so awesome, you dont see any grid or pixels, even as we tested the desktop view with the BigScreen Software! I didn't have any problems with lags, brightness, god rays or latency,

Even if that is not completely 1million percent true, that is still hugely impressive. I am happy to post back comments to this thread (could rename it the VR thread?)

Edit: Or this still

That is starting to get where we want to be with VR imo, that's impressive.

Yeah I'm interested in the pimax but I'm waiting for consumer reviews before I order one.

I've liked the idea of a dual-screen triangle headset ever since I saw a pic of a prototype years ago, I think it was Starbreeze or something like that? I just hope Pimax can deliver. It's a design very likely to be the next-gen standard, is my expectation.

Damn, Best Buy has a dell inspiron gaming laptop on sale for $700, and if you bundle it with a dell vr headset/controller you get $400 off the VR gear, adding only $50 to the total

Edit

May just be windows mixed reality headset, whatever that is

They are AFAIK comparable to the Rift/Vive, expected to be a little bit worse. Very new, so little knowledge of details. For $50 it's surely a steal tho, if you were wanting the laptop anyway.

I was playing Minecraft VR tonight and found an interesting play "enhancement"

To counter sweat from a warm headset, I pointed a box fan in the direction of my play area. Not only did it do a great job of keeping things cool. It also provided a method of orienting myself to the room by noting the direction of airflow.

It allows you to instantly realise your room position without breaking the immersion.

It's my 11-year old's favorite thing on this planet. He loves it more than he loves me. He's working on developing a game for it now (at this point, it's just figuring out objects and what-not).

Pro-tip: Install SideQuest.

Same situation in my house. I got the Index too but we keep reaching for the Quest.

Is the Quest really the way to go with VR? A friend says Alyx is a must play and others say the sans PC part of the Quest is its best feature.

Also is 64GB enough with it or is 128 necessary?

I only play Beat Saber and Tilt Brush and occasional watch VR video content (like virtual tour of Versailles)

The index undoubtedly has better visual fidelity and less screen lag but the light towers and cables are hideous. I use Quest with virtual desktop (I bought a 16ft usb c cable but it’s apparently not good enough for stable link connection) and it does have some delay and if I swivel my head really fast it takes a few ms for the frames to catch up to my new field of view.

But I can play with it for almost two hours completely wireless, which was a bigger deal than I expected in terms of QOL. Having to put 10+feet of cables away every time I play with the index is a bigger hassle than I appreciated.

I have a Vive but I have the space for it and the pc for it.

I think the Quest is probably the best choice for the majority of people. No pc needed for many good VR games so very portable and don’t need lighthouses or cameras setup for tracking. And then can connect to computer for more complex games.

I haven’t used it or learned too much about it since I already have a Vive, but it seems pretty good and a great way to dip into VR for only $399

I had to spend $1600 to get into VR a few years ago for pc+Vive so pretty great that you can do it for 1/4 the price now.

I should note I play almost exclusively the PC version off virtual desktop. The Quest Android version is clearly inferior.

It's not official DOOM - it's a VR port. As much as I'm the tech/computer guy in the house, it's my 11-year old that does all this side-loading and what-not with the Quest. As I type this, he's actually trying to make his own VR game using the Oculus Link and Steam VR.

Anyone tried PokerStarsVR yet? I thought it's quite fun, sometimes it's not that easy to pick up your hand, but it's way better than the other Poker app on the Quest.

No, unfortunately it's only for play money... though it may be better at the moment. I had it a few times that opponents showed me their cards by accident and I am not sure if I didn't do the same at some point.

Yeah, PokerStars VR is cool. I mean, everyone just shoves every hand, but the mechanics of the game are fun.
