My rift finally arrived and it is awesome!
Did the dreamdeck and 'introduction to virtual reality'-demos and got blown away, but what really did it was firing up Elite: Dangerous. The thing is huge! I just sat there gaping for minutes as I was looking around the "actual size" cockpit I was sitting in and looking out over the desolate planet I landed on before I logged out last.
Then, I got up and actually walked around that cockpit... standing at the windows gazing out. And the detail everywhere is insane - didn't think there'd be textures and details where you can't see when playing the game non-vr, but walking around the cockpit it's just like being there with everything textured and detailed.
Then docking at a station is mindblowing - the size and details and the responsiveness of your ship (or at least the feel of it) is a completely different game to non-VR E: D.
Turning/rotating when big objects (planets, space stations) is in view is pretty dizzying and will need some practice before I can do a lot of it though - got really disorienting and while I didn't get nauseous I probably would have if I'd done a lot of it.
Really only noticed the limited FOV when I was paying attention to it - "god-rays" were quite noticeable on occasion, but mainly noticed it when the background was very black and white text or white objects were displayed (typically intro-screens/credits for movies/demos).
The 'fuzziness' and lack of sharpness in text and some other stuff compared to a monitor was the most noticeable issue - it can be worked around for stuff that is designed for VR, but is an issue for some of the stuff that isn't. Still it's a small price to pay for the pure awesomeness of everything else
