Sloth is gay tho it’s basically a cheat code

Think dragon armor in skyrim

I would like to use a little magic but not if it makes it too easy. Sloth isn't unlocked yet so I haven't messed with it. I just got to the 2nd region and beat the centipede boss. I pretty much just disassemble all but a few items and figured I don't really need to craft anything since the drops will keep going up unless I really find something I like. In terms of leveling up I've really spread it out pretty evenly which may not be good, but I've needed (or wanted to use) something that uses each stat.

Yeah don't use sloth. The rest of the magic while useful and potentially a bit OP are not in the same easy-mode league as slothing bosses.

You eventually have to use sloth when you start the 2v1 end game boss fights

Note to self...dont rush over to ignite your sword with fire at the squid boss leaving yourself wide open for his 1 shot kill beam.

I beat the game without spells and I'm not an exceptional gamer.

You beat the added free stuff at the end where you have to fight two at once without spells?

This is a fun boss. Made it to stage 2 but no dice yet.

Agree on not using Sloth Magic. Makes the bosses a not fun level of easy.

I'll probably use it on a regular enemy and not a boss. I like that there are plenty of sub missions so there is no rush to jump in each main level. I got the squid boss after a dozen attempts. It was much easier when I infused my sword with fire and used a fire projectile on the small guys that popped up. I still think I spread my stats too wide but will see if I need to respec or not down the road.

Edit ok just tried it and if the bosses move as slow as the regular enemies that is definitely cheesing it lol

Going to give the ice #$%^ boss another go tonight...I'm guessing it's best to try to hit her from a distance as she has a very good defense after getting in a hit or two forcing you to retreat. For the first time I felt a bit under leveled and went to farm a bit doing a twilight mission to bump up a few levels. I love the Diablo style loot system even though it's a bit time consuming disassembling things after double checking I don't want them anymore.

How do you guys think this game compares to BB and DS? I'm specifically wondering about the balance between straight action and RPG/character progression. I liked all 4 games, but definitely took points away from BB for being more action and less RPG'y if you catch my drift.

It's a little more action-y and a lot more RPG-y than Bloodborne, imo. My top 3 is BB > Nioh > DS3 tho, haven't played the others

Wow with how much you game if you haven't played OG Dark Souls you need to make it a priority. It and BotW are the two best console games of modern generation imo.

I'm almost halfway through now and it is a lot of fun. Think of it as a cross between Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden, and Diablo (for the loot system). It can get pretty complicated at first with all the different things that can be done and not necessarily knowing what to do, but after a while with some of the dojo training it starts to become second nature.

The action is very fast paced and the bosses are definitely challenging so far as long as you don't use the sloth talisman (which I haven't). It took me about 20 tries to beat the Ice *$%^ last night but I finally got it done.

Did anyone have to farm leveling? I have done every sub mission and am now about 5 levels under the recommended level which may not mean much in situations similar to souls games but just curious on if people had to do it during about halfway through. This boss I am on 2 hit kills me so it's probably a git good on blocking/avoiding but just getting a feel if it is worth it just to bump a few levels. The boss is the one after the road with the pipe on the third island or the lady with the big claws.

I am thinking it will become pretty important to use the guiding spirits for boss fights so I probably should make sure plenty of stats are in that to unlock their passive skills correct?

I don’t think you’ll ever need to level farm. Guiding spirits weren’t a big deal either. I’m sure you can make specialized builds and min/max and **** but i found all that stuff to be unnecessary. I found everything after the 3rd level to be pretty easy (relatively speaking)

Even not using sloth ever? I think just the 1-2 hit death factor adds to the difficulty similar to the Souls games. I am sure it is just more of a dodge/blocking issue and not an under leveled issue, just was curious on opinions as its more fun just to play all the main and sub missions and not just do it for level farming.

The game has a difficulty rating for each area. If everything available is showing 5/5 or 4/5, there's a good chance you're under-leveled in some way. Before you start grinding for levels, though, see if you can upgrade your gear. Killing player phantoms would be the quick and easy way to do it if you can go online.

If the problem is with a specific heavily telegraphed boss attack, then the answer is probably just not getting hit.

Also bear in mind your equip load. You may prefer light armor for the improved dodges (I do), or heavy for the tankiness etc. Medium in the middle obv.

I used sloth a for a couple of levels before I realized it was effectively a cheat code so yeah I think you will be fine. I did try to fully clear levels so it’s possible I gained more xp than you too. Iirc I was always a few levels below the suggested level and didn’t have to many issues and based on your updates itt you’re better at the game than i was. Probably just need to not get hit by the special attack or whatever

I also never crafted any gear or weapons, always just used what I found. But like I said I would try to clear entire levels so I was killing those spawnable red dudes all the time too

For any fight of significance would use magic - attack up, enemy defense down, my defense up and a weapon elemental. I didn’t use ninjutsu much other than power pills

It was definitely a git gud moment and I just needed to learn the pattern and dodge better. I haven't really messed with the crafting as it pretty much always looks like it will make something lower than what I have. I haven't really used any of the items in the game outside of antidotes, the spirit stones, and the whetstone lol. I use magic, but not ninjutsu. Aint nobody got time for both haha. I am in a level 90 twilight mission which got me loot above my level so that will help the cause for sure. I also heard once you get your spirit to level 20 that you should start using it more often since it regenerates so quick at this level and not just necessarily save it for bosses or hard enemies.

I'm on the last level now unless I do the dlc afterwards. Doing a couple higher level twighlight levels helped a ton with gear (weapons specifically). I only use power pills for the jinjitsu, but I do use some magic. I probably could re spec now for the final level since I don't think I need all the strength/skill I put in but maybe I'll hold off unless I have problems at the end. After this I'm not sure what is next to play. Maybe Salt and Sanctuary on the switch.
