I think this could be really fun. The only non pc games I'm really interested in anymore tend to be nintendo exclusives, and a few random games for my 3DS. The fact that I can casually play those games both at home in my living room, on the road, or even next to my girlfriend if she wants to watch tv at night on the couch, is pretty cool.

Hoping that potentially bringing their development together for 3DS/console will make a better flow of games as well.

Urgh. Is this the Nintendo NX? I wanted a console for 4-5 player local co-op. The Wii was the champion of party games, why couldn't they just stick to that genre? I want something that non-gaming people can enjoy. If I want to play competitive stuff, I'd just play them on my PC.

Also...

If it's a legitimately powerful home system one can easily just plop it down and forget about the portability aspect in theory.

But as best I can tell the processing guts are in the handheld unit part and the cradle just basically broadcasts to the tv?

There's no way you're going to get something as powerful as a PS4/XB1 (or even close) in that small of a device.

Also what's with Nintendo's marketing these days? Do they really think super hipster millennials are who's buying their systems and games?

When people said Nintendo needs to appeal to adults we meant grown up games, blood and boobs and stuff. Not watching Blossom play Mario from her studio apartment.

Has the requisite number of years passed for Nintendo's hardware to finally be up to par with XB1/PS4?

What does everyone think about the name? I mean, it makes sense, it conveys the main theme of the console, but it still rubs me as kinda goofy. I certainly can't come up with a better one though.

This post was pretty funny but probably not entirely in the intended way.

Why release a direct competitor to PS4/Xbone/PC though? If that's their route they should just eschew consoles altogether a la Sega. I don't know if this is what "millennials" want but this seems like it should appeal to young adult gamers as well as families since it can be brought in the car. I do agree with the poster who wishes it was more party game geared, though, since that's where they made their cachet with the Wii.

Runs off a Tegra SoC

So it's basically an nVidia Shield that runs mario?

or possibly the next gen of shield that runs zelda, either seems fine by me, specially if it comes out cheaper than the competition

It'd be cool if you can link systems like the old Gameboy.

I like this as most of my gaming is done on a train while commuting or on the sofa while watching TV. It does appear like the dock just charges and links to TV, so not sure why it's so big. Obvious move would be to have a processor in the dock too which boosts power to do 4k 60fps at home, but still be able to play same games on the move at lower res.

Hopefully the dock has a disc drive that can be used for backwards compatibility but I realize that's extremely wishful thinking.

The fact that the main unit is the the screen and not the dock tells me there's a very small chance it's up to PS4/Xbox One power.

lolCartridges.

Otherwise I actually don't think this is too big of a bet for Nintendo. The console itself is basically a portable nVidia shield (or upgraded one) with Nintendo software.

It could be a transition console before Nintendo finally surrenders and becomes a software company.

It's 2016, flash media > discs unless you enjoy installing every game to your HDD because load speed is too slow. You can save data to them, load times are much quicker, they can potentially have a larger capacity and they're also safer, can't scratch an SD card.

You don't even have a couch to use the home portion of this.

My youth soccer team was called the "Switch" and I could never figure out what it meant.
