yeah, they really should've had chrono trigger imo

I don't mind myself since I have it on DS and the DS version is the best version anyway but it should be considered essential

Got one pre-ordered. Nintendo promised there wouldn't be shortages this time but Amazon UK is already sold out. Amazing how this company can botch so many high demand products.

Man afaik preorders haven't even been available in the US. I am on two notification lists, though.

I guess the good news is that Nintendo has stated there will be more of these than the NES mini, and I got one of them so hopefully I won't have too many problems getting this one. Do want.

Nintendo America seems to be pretty **** when it comes to pre orders. They said there would be more stock but they also said it wouldn't be available past 2017 so I wouldn't sleep on it.

No wireless controllers?
Nintendo Switch Quote

No but it will support 8bitdo controllers. I'm pretty happy they're going with Wii ports again since they will work on a Wii/Wii U as well and official SNES controllers for Wii were Club Nintendo exclusives and go for like $70+ on ebay.

Aren't those really gamecube ports? Or am I missing something?

No, they're the nunchuk/classic controller ports at the bottom of a Wii remote.

SNES thing worth it for Secret of Mana alone

But only two controller ports for Secret of Mana?

Likely not going to be a popular opinion, but I don't think Secret of Mana (and Seik 3) have aged that well. Combat is too tedious & repetitive imo. FF3/6 and Chrono Trigger still very playable today (and worthy of "GOAT" praise).

Secret of Mana soundtrack is A+ though.

This is a good point. SoM was one of the few games that utilized the multitap well.

who wants to spend $50 to get access to over 2000 games when you can spend $80 to get access to 20 games?

Can't talk about the NES/SNES classic without someone clever coming in with a "just get a pi" comment.

I don't remember older consoles like the NES or the Nintendo 64 being rare, although I wasn't ever getting one as a kid so maybe this has been a thing for their entire existence. I do remember how hard it was to get a Wii that one Christmas - I was lucky enough to snag one during a ten minute window on Amazon for list price when people were paying three to four times that on eBay - but I thought that was just an underestimation of anticipated demand. Eventually Wiis were easy enough to find.

Then the mini NES console thing happened. I did manage to get ahold of the two I wanted (one for me, one for my nephew), but only by using a website tracker and then only because I was around when one of the notifications hit my inbox. They were selling out on all sites within minutes to an hour of restock. What the ****, you clearly can see there's high demand, why not make more, or release the stocks you're holding? Rumors are that they'll do the same strategy with the mini SNES when it releases.

Today, three new amiibos related to the Legend of Zelda were released (all Link characters from MM, TP, and SS). All three were exclusive to specific retailers (Amazon, Game Stop and Best Buy). Preorders were scarce to impossible. The only one today I was able to find, and I was actually up for a couple hours past midnight so I was online at the time of release, was the SS one through Amazon, which is exclusive to Prime members. The other two can only be found right now on eBay, although one store tracker helpfully let me know they were in stock for the MM one at a Game Stop in Pennsylvania. I live in Maryland.

What's with the forced scarcity? Seriously, I get just not knowing something is going to take off and there being a shortage until production catches back up, but this is clearly a company strategy and it's pissing me off (and I generally love Nintendo as they have some of my favorite properties, including LoZ, which comprises 100% of my amiibos). Like, what is even the point? When you can find them for retail they are still normal price, so the only people reaping a huge profit off the scarcity are resellers on eBay.

I just don't understand why they are intentionally releasing so few of specific items into the market and basically forcing consumers who really want them to either spend 3-4x (if lucky) list price from a reseller or say **** it.

And I also get this is so first world problems (OMG I can't easily find the toys I want!) but it's making some of my super positive Nintendo energy very sour.
I'm pretty sure it has always been a policy, read a book a while back on the Sega V nintendo thing, and I'm pretty sure they did it with the SNES to build hype.

It's irritating, but it does push you over the edge on buying one if you're on the fence and you get an opportunity.
