Tons of people only buy a Nintendo system and no other console

You mean any hardcore gamers won't buy just a Nintendo, well other than hardcore PC gamers that pair Nintendo for fun and PC for better version of hardcore Xbox/ps gsmes

3 hours isn't that bad imo for the portable battery time and usually people will either be able to take a break to charge it or be in an area they can play while plugged in. It's way too early to condemn it for certain topics like performance when it's not out yet. Give it a chance and don't buy it if you have all of these complaints or issues with it. Some of us will have fun with the system and I'm glad I now have something to replace my 3ds for travel as well as now to play on my work lunch break.

I'll possibly get it if the new Fire Emblem that is expected to release follows Radiant Dawn's footsteps.

I wouldn't bother because your friend doesn't know what he is talking about

not sure what you mean by this. A big part of game development is optimization, if the console has two different performance profiles then developers will have to optimize each separately

What I mean is it's the same hardware, just slower. Optimising for both isn't a big deal or even like the PS4 and PS4 Pro. It's just hardcoded stuff like turn off reflections in handheld mode, update this thing every second frame etc. It's a little more work but it's so minor it's not even worth noting. You don't have to tell me about gamedev, been doing it for a while now. We're porting our game to steam and had interest from our publisher to go to switch because in their words "porting unity is a day's work".

If they have sales like the Wii U this will most likely be their last console. Tons of people didn't buy the last console they were just lucky the 3DS took off and stocked the coffers with cash.

Yeah, Nintendo is super lucky that they have dominated the handheld market since the original gameboy.

That's great except the handheld market is by far the smallest game market.

There's apparently a big cultural divide too.

Handheld gaming is apparently a much bigger thing in Japan than here in the US.

In the past 15 years I think I've seen someone with a Gameboy or DS/3DS maybe 2 or 3 times total and it was a young child each time.

In the era of cell phones, which pretty much everyone carries by default, the idea of lugging around another large device dedicated solely to gaming seems terrible, even if cell phone games are absolutely awful they have the advantage of just being there with no extra work.

You certainly can't fit your Switch into your pocket either. Outside of taking it to play on an airplane I can't think of a single instance when normal adults will make use of its portability. If the party game aspects are fun enough maybe you could bring it over to someone's house for some ****s and giggles.

But it's the type of thing you'd have to keep up with. I'd be worried about it getting broken or stolen ever time I left the house with it.

But apparently in Japan people toting around their mobile game devices is much more a thing.

Tangent: I really wish when mobile (phone/tablet) games were moved from phone storage to an SD card that it actually moved the entire app to the card. It's such a pain in the ass having limit myself to just a few games on my phone (or only one or two, depending on size). It sure would be sweet to be able to have SD cards dedicated to game storage that I could just swap in and out.

No, the heavy lifting is still done by Nintendo/the hardware. You and AJW make it seem like devs need 2 different ports when all they need to do is turn down some settings, most probably won't even bother at that. This was already the case with the Wii U and 99% of PC ports.

Maybe the Switch will make people party like it's 1989. The right games could bring back LAN parties. EVO 2018 might be interesting.

Any must have accessories you guys are getting ahead of time?

I'm getting the hori stand (for playing it at lunch at work lol), as well as a hard case. I don't think I'll need the handheld charger since I can just usb-c hook it up to my laptop at work to charge. I'm also avoiding the screen protector as well until they maybe come out with a worthy game that uses the touchscreen. I'm not sure how I feel about the controller as it looks like an xbox controller which I despise.

Anyone else pre-order but reconsidering? I'm pumped for Zelda, Mario Kart etc. but the idea of how much the Pro-pad costs just angers me. Not mention the cost of more joy-cons if the wife ever wants to play with me and the kid or if I have friends over.

Despise the Xbox controller? Was your left thumb broken at a very young age and grew in at a weird angle?

I mostly didn't like how the d-pad felt when used as well as the size of the controller compared to the playstation version. It's just a preference.

I'll be buying the Switch after ignoring the Wii U completely.

The new Zelda looks like it wants to be considered among the greatest games ever. Tough to meet those expectations. In the history of gaming, maybe Mario 64, Zelda OOT, and Half Life are the only games to meet super high expectations.

I'm just glad to have Nintendo back "in the game". Stupid stuff like the joy cons being able to do funky stuff reminds me the first time I played Star Fox 64 as as a kid. Rumble was the **** and blew my mind!
