Building an underwater entrance

I would say when I first started playing this game I put in a good 25-30 hours in a week. Since building my Eiffel Tower I've maybe played 3 hours. I cleared out the front part of the tower out to the water, dug down one more level and resurfaced it with dirt.

The problem I'm having is grass. Grass will only grow on dirt that is adjacent to a block that also has grass on it. And, grass won't grow in the dark. Shadows in this game are straight down no matter where the sun is at.

My Eiffel Tower is solid from above so I'm getting shadows all over the place, like a big X on the ground. I was able to get grass in from one of the sides and it started growing just fine, but then it stopped in a semi circle out from the wall up to where the shadows began. I'm not really sure how I'm going to get grass to grow further into the center, but I'm thinking I read somewhere that torches will cause crops to grow as well? As long as there is light? Maybe that is the same with grass, I haven't tried it yet.

There was something else I wanted to mention, but I forgot now.

His is pretty cool, better detail than mine. I have pictures in this thread somewhere if you wanted to see mine. The only thing I don't like about his is that the "legs" aren't on all sides, as far as I can tell. He only has 2 sections. Mine is completely 3-dimensional on all sides, if that is what you'd call it, but I have less detail.

Edit: Was going to post an updated picture, but Minecraft is down right now.

Seriously, anyone have any advice for building something underwater? I have an idea that I'm going to try tonight, we'll see how it goes.

torches give air when they go out underwater

Ok, got a pretty good underwater project going.

First, dive down and build a small hut. At least 3 blocks high (so you can stand in it), no more than a 3x3x3 needed, in theory. Leave a 1x2 high hole for you to walk into. Get into your underwater hut, place a block on the top part of your 1x2 hole, and use a bucket, or use the torch trick (haven't tried it yet). Now you have air. A 4-high hut is much easier to start with.

Alternately, building a shaft from the ocean floor up, emptying it out, and destroying it when you're done is a pretty simple solution.

To add a room, the easiest way I've found is to swim around the outside of your project and build a single wall of the desired dimensions. Then, go back inside hut and mine along the wall, replacing the blocks to stop the water as you go. To me this is easier than building an entire mass of blocks in the shape of your room and hollowing it out.

I haven't done a submerged glass enclosure yet, but I imagine it's very much the same. Maybe make a cobble mass in the shape of your room, coat that with glass, then hollow it out.

I'll post some pics when I've gotten better at it.

Surround with torches, build monster trap/loot collector, remove torches and get free stuff.

I'm pretty sure you are the clown for thinking it was them. They are currently bringing down one of the biggest law agencies in europe and exposing their fraudolent behaviour, do you really think they care about Minecraft? And after beeing able to crack the aforementioned agencies servers, do you think they only have the power to stop a 10€ pre-built crap site from running for a few hours? The one point you are right on is the 14 year old part. I'm sure it is some kind of script kiddie. After all, my cat's website is more sophisticated than the site of a dude who made 2 million dollars, so nothing can stop some kid who just learned javascript from crashing the entire server.

4Chan isn't some group with a leader who decides all of their actions. It's a group of internet nerds with a diverse array of interests tied together by funny/obscene/sexual images.

You would be pretty naive to think there isn't anyone in command in the real 4chan. And I don't mean the morons like you or me that visit the site for a few giggle here and there.

After so many years, I can bet my ass that a group has formed, else they wouldn't be able to do what they do.

You don't bring down a multi million dollar company ( and I don't mean lol-minecraft ) without organization.

As I said, I'm sure it was some kind of kiddie, but only an attention whore that wanted more respect by using a well know group as name.

Well that's what I'm saying. It's not the same people taking down a law agency that are DDOSing Minecraft. That doesn't stop both groups being from 4chan. Or a lone person DDOSing Minecraft being someone who browses 4chan.
