You need heart and committment to play minecraft.

1.2 is almost a year ago - a lot has changed since then. But don't go cave exploring without equipment.

I think the most players I've seen on at once was 5, and that was an isolated incidence. I think it's safe to say the # of players logging in with any sort of regularity, say once a week, is less than 10(probably much less).

While it was cool to walk around and see what people built, the server feels essentially like single player, with the added detractor that it's easy to wander into a cave someone else was already exploring.

If activity is going to pick up again having a server would be cool, but if not I'm fine without one.

I'm looking to get back into it. If this is the same server as the beginning of this year, I should still be on the whitelist. What is the ip?

Evidently theres some drama after minecon with notch calling out the yogscast guys (on twitter) for being arrogant divas who acted like complete pricks to everyone there.

He rips into them surprisingly strongly snd claims they were the only ones who demanded payment for showing up, and that they said they were pretty much the only reason minecraft is as popular as it is.

Probably just acting British...

Bummer if what Notch said is true though (and I don't see why he'd make any of it up)...I always liked the Yogscast.

I found myself on notch's twitter yesterday trying to find a list of things that have changed from 1.8 to the full release and was watching it all go down

Though I've watched a couple of yogscast videos and I hated them.

yeah, their clame is pretty ridiculous seeing as how he had already shipped a million units before they ever released their videos (number pulled out of ass but it was huge).

Penny Arcade are really the ones that made minecraft go viral.

Yogscast kids are annoying as hell.

They are the perfect example of what is going to happen to a non-trivial number of our young people. They skate through their late teens/20's making a meager living from **** like YouTube income, and then wake up at 32 years old with ZERO skills and ZERO education and realize they will still be alive for another 50 years.

Same as all these "pro gamers" from more competitive video games. The kid that just won MLG in starcraft quit high school at 15 to pursue a career in gaming. In 10-12 years when his fingers look like this:



he's going to severely regret his decision to not give a **** about education.

I'm also not really much of a prude when it comes to my kids being exposed to things like swearing, but I cannot believe the number of George Carlinesque words in your average minecraft related YouTube video. Not to mention the number of kids who try to sound like a badass but just make fools out of themselves. Last night my boys were watching some and I start hearing the soundtrack of some hardcore porn, complete with heavy moaning and 90's porn music as the minecraft guy on screen is raping a sheep or something.

They are 9 and 12 and I gave them the death stare and a "what are you doing?" and they both just kind of sat there, not sure what to do. The youngest one sort of hulk-smashed the keyboard for the escape key to get YouTube out of fullscreen mode to stop the video.

I like that you said meager living from youtube instead of the most obvious example being on a poker forum.

People making a living at poker have a skill that won't become obsolete due to simply "growing out of it" or some physical reason in the case of the professional gamers.

Poker is a game that only gets better with time as more and more fish are born every day.

Pagamos Mod( Ice Realm)

I'm really looking forward to this Ice Realm( apparently called Pagamos) getting updated, hopefully the Aether Mod will as well. Once they are, I'll have the regular Dimension, The Nether, The End, The Aether, and Pagamos to explore ^_^.

Sorta kinda, not really? It adds newish mobs, newish ores, and newish items/tools, but it does look essentially like a reskinned version of The Nether, yea.

I'm lazy and don't feel like explaining all the stuff it adds, but it's cool.

Hey Josh, are you going to update the server for the 1.0.0 so we can use the old world, or, can we start a fresh world with it.??

When bukkit updates I'll update. But tbh nobody really seems interested in taking the server over so not sure what we should do with it.

Yogscast respond to notch (and are a whole lot nicer about it than I would be in their situation).

And now notch is saying "It's likely the entire Yogscast scenario is just stress related misunderstanding." and apologizes for not having checked with them before making it public. I guess smart people can be really stupid too - I don't see why on earth he'd do something like that without being very sure of what he was saying.

In other news, the reason yogscasts server are down is because they've been DDOSed (which I'd imagine they can indirectly thank notch for as well)
