The nether portal I made does not "return trip" back to my house; instead when I return, I come back near "spawnville". Is this normal? (Actually, when I use the portal I made to go into the nether, it seems like it's dumping me out onto someone else's prior-existing portal, because there was already some cobblestone built up around the portal to keep the player from walking off a cliff.)

Another thing I've seen from walking around Nether a little is the complete lack of glowstone. When I played single player there was tons of it I could see immediately upon entering the first time; should I assume finding glowstone in this "picked-over" nether to be challenging/hopeless? Is there any point in trying to branch mine the nether?

Yes that's pretty normal, I think when you travel from the nether it teleports you to the nearest coresponding portal in the normal world whether that's not the portal you traveled into the nether in or not.

Sounds like you need to get hooked up to the Nether Express!

(I think Minecraft is bad for my wrist cause holding down the mouse button for long periods of time on my touchpad is awkward so I've been taking it easy lately)

As for your return portal - yeah, when you created your portal in the normal world and went in, it just took you to whatever the closest portal is. If you build another portal in the nether at x=(real world x / 8) z=(real world z / 8) then that will become bidirectional with your real-world portal.

Code:
Loop{

	if GetKeyState("F4","P")

		Loop {
	 	  if GetKeyState("F7","P")
		  {
		  click up
		  Break
	          }
		  click down
   		  Sleep 10
		      }

	if GetKeyState("F6","P")
	{
	Msgbox, Broken.
        break  ; Terminate the loop
	}
}

Autohotkey. You're welcome.

F4 digs, F7 stops, F6 kills the script.

This is the only way I can play with my son, because holding the mouse down also sucks.

Also, I think this digs FASTER than regular holding it down. My script actually spams the downmouse action, instead of just holding it. I can't really explain it, but it really does seem to go faster.

JoshK - any interest in adding some mods to the server? There are some pretty sick new ones that let you like connect different components with tubing that are driven by motors (for example, you can funnel ore from a chest into a furnace, which is fed with coal from another chest, and then sends its refined product somewhere else to be processed/stored). Probably not gonna happen because everyone would have to use one texture pack and the mods are only updated to 1.7.3 last I checked, but it's really cool stuff.

Yeah I'd probably shy away from anything that really changes game mechanics in a big way.

Actually they are out for 1.8.1, I use them in single player. BuildCraft 2.2.1 And IndustrialCraft2

Actually they don't change the game mechanics, they just add very handy stuff. I'd love them too because I use them in single player and love them. Obv it's not my decision, so it doesn't matter

It just gives you more options. It doesn't prevent anyone who doesn't want to use the new features from doing anything they did before.

+1

The mod-overload that was happening on the previous 2+2 minecraft server was the whole reason why I initially changed to this one.

I love some of the more basic mods (like lockette), but in general I think the fewer mods the better.

I have tried playing with yogsbox on single player but thought it just all got pretty messy.

yogbox is a mod collection that has nothing to do with the mods we proposed.

Yes, I know - that has no bearing on the point I was making.

Yes it has. Your whole point was that you don't like collections like the Yogbox. But as this isn't a collection and apparently you haven't tried the one in question either, so it just seems you like to write some crappy generalizations. I'm totally ok with whatever decision Josh takes, but at least try not to talk crap when someone proposes something. Bring up some valid points instead of throwing meaningless phrases in the thread. Don't like the mod? Fine, tell me why? Not liking the yogbox as an argument against this mod is just dumb.

whateva... back to minig...

I'm pretty sure I know myself what my point was and I'm not sure why you are getting all hostile and defensive over fairly innocent comments. I never said I didn't like yogsbox because it was a collection - I said I didn't like it because it got messy.

I'm sorry I don't like the kind of mods you're proposing - however, my likes and dislikes are not going to determine whether or not they get put on the server, so there's no need to panic over my opinion.

White list please: Cheshire_88

Also, what mods/texture packs do you guys use?

I'm currently using these mods:
  • Death Chest- spawn a chest near where you die containing all of your items, unless you have more items than it can hold
  • Too Many Items[rarely used] -add any item, or full stacks, you want to your inventory.
  • Zan Mini Map- HUD Map in top right, with waypoints you can set, and toggle on/off
  • Treecapitator- Chop down entire trees by mining the lowest block on the trunk.
  • Smart Movement- Crawl, Climb, Swim, Dive, etc.
  • Single Player Commands- The ability to input commands just like you can in multiplayer.
  • Mo'Creatures- Lots of new hostile and passive mobs.
  • Dynamic Lights- Held Torches, and similar items, light up the area around you
  • Ruins- Ruins are randomly placed in the world.
  • Floating Ruins- Floating Islands with ruins on them are randomly placed in the world.
  • Aether(but not in 1.8+)- Aether dimension
  • Spawner Gui- You can pick up spawners again, and edit what they spawn.
And these textures:
  • JohnSmith's
  • Misa's(my favorite I think)
  • LB PhotoRealism

Plus the necessary mods to run all of those like MCPatcher, Modloader, etc.

I'm probably going to add Nature Overhaul(plants grow and spread like irl), and maybe Balkon's Weapon Mod(more weapons, but still true to minecraft's style).

Most of them are, yea...at least if you can follow simple instructions(which many can't I assume from all the complaints I've seen). Many of the mods take less than a minute to install.

For the mods that give you a little trouble, there are tutorials posted on youtube. Note that not all mods/textures/game versions play well with eachother though. So, be sure to back up your minecraft before you start messing around with adding any mods/textures, and read up on compatibility between the different stuff.

Dynamic lights gave me a little trouble initially, but even that didn't take long to fix, and it never crashed my game.

minecraft dies when I try to mod it.

I open the zip up (backed up already), drag the files over, close the zip program, and try to start up minecraft - it gets through the login screen but then I just get a black screen.

halp?

It doesn't seem like it would be that hard, and yet it fails.
