I prob won't be on much if at all until 1.9, can't get the inspiration to build anything if it's all gonna be wiped out soon

I think that the idea is to take the 1.8 chunks within +/- 1km of the original spawn, and copy paste them into the 1.9 world (with an offset), set a new spawn location, and just cope with the rough edges where the two meet.

I've decided I'm NOT going to wipe a map for 1.9.

This is not the idea. You guys have your own spawn anyways.

if you want new content just travel to it.

Coolio. Same difference, I guess. I imagine people will want to settle a new location with 1.9-esque content anyways... which is basically the same thing.

fml i just spent the whole day mining, decided to go up for the surface finally, happened upon a zombie dungeon, didn't light it up quick enough, backed out of it to fight a zombie and went straight into lava that I had forgotten was there.

gg 4 stacks of iron ore, 2 stacks of gold ore and 23 diamonds and everything else I had on me

Took a look at the sand castle, cool beans.

Tree house is coming along nicely, is it done yet?

Anything else I should check out?

Um, I'm looking for docks made of wool that will cushion incoming ships. So:

1) Does this work?

2) Is there anything special for it, or do I just sub in wool wherever there was wood/stone, etc.

3) Don't burn my shieza.

So which one of you stumbled upon my chests in the desert and took all of my valuables? Enjoy it, you need e-gold far more than me, dip****. I still hope you drop dead.

Pretty amazing that even on a private server like this with only like a dozen people playing, all from a reasonably respectable, intelligent community, you still have **** like this occuring.

I'm just about done here.

I was on the server yesterday when a new player said in chat he'd found a chest in the middle of the desert, taken what was in it and asked if that was ok.

As he described it, it was not marked in any way and just sitting there - if that was the case, and that was your chest, you can not expect to just pop up a random chest, leave it there forever and have noone touch it if there's nothing suggesting that anyone owns it.

You can find generated chests all over after the 1.8 update - I found two in the stronghold that were chock-full of all sorts of stuff and you'll find chests with diamonds and other goodies in abandoned mines. I don't know how the area around (what was possibly) your chest looked like, but unless it was marked somehow, you can not expect, especially a player completely new to minecraft, to somehow magically realize that this chest belongs to someone.

I'm sure he'll give you your stuff back if he's made aware of the situation.

And seriously - locking chests is really easy. It not only secures your stuff, if only from misunderstandings, but it tells people who 'operates' in that area too, which can help avoid other confusion.

guys jesus christ just lock your ****

I have locked and unlocked chests in my house. Pretty much the unlocked stuff is for other people if they want it.

edit: basically by not locking a chest you give yourself purely negative expectation (unless you want to share)

edit: any answer to the wool dock question?

LOL yeah dude I just left it there for the next person wandering through to take. And since <20% of the server is on at any given time that's a surefire way to make sure no one's going to be pissed off about it. Fact is, I SHOULDN'T have to lock anything. You don't take something unless you are explicitly given the go ahead to do so. This is a life lesson applicable to the real world.

My chests were surrounded with torches, there were 4, on the surface, clearly placed by a human. I had cleared the area out to build on but had to log off for the night. Not only did he take my stuff, but he took the 100 or so torches I had surrounding the area. I guess I should have expected this with the aspie ****** antisocial kiddie types attracted to this game.

I'm sorry dude but you're just wrong about this.

Games in general are designed in a way that encourages you to hoard/loot everything in sight. You can't expect normal social behavior to translate into games. After all, 90% of the games we play involve killing other people.

And if there is a mechanism for locking chests then not locking them is kinda dumb, no?

It didn't occur to me to lock them until after that had happened. I forgot about that mechanism. That isn't the point. You guys are like some of my stupid friends in high school who would go out at night and try car doors to see if their owners had left them unlocked and then loot whatever valuables they had left inside. When I challenged them and said what they were doing was wrong, they would say, "Oh well they shouldn't have left the doors unlocked. It's on them." Negligence to protect property doesn't make it open season to steal.

Thing is, Minecraft isn't the real world. In the real world you can't wander into abandoned mines, kill a few spiders and loot some (game-generated) chests with diamonds.

I think most, if not all, people on our server are honorable and nice people - I've not had a problem with any of them so far. That does not mean you don't have to lock your stuff - if only to prevent mistakes from happening.

As I said - I found two chests full of stuff in the stronghold. At that point I had never seen anything like that at all. I initially left the chests as I thought the whole stronghold had to be some other players creation, but after realizing it wasn't, I looted the chests.

This isn't about protecting your stuff from "bad people" - it's about protecting your stuff from honest mistakes/misunderstandings.

And comparing this to stealing stuff from unlocked cars IRL is... well... not very reasonable.

Like DavidC, I also leave my chests unlocked if it contains stuff I don't mind others taking - I really don't see why anyone wouldn't just simply lock chests with stuff the want for themselves. It takes about 5 seconds.
