Hey guys, I'm working on a standard deck that I want to make good enough to play in the tournaments. Going for a mana excel/counter/burn type feel. Let me know any suggestions:

Creatures:
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Druid of the Anima
3 Elvish Visionary
3 Farhaven Elf
2 Feral Hydra

Spells
4 Banefire
2 Lavalanche
2 Titan's Revenge
2 Broken Ambitions
2 Cancel
3 Dream Fracture
3 Doom Blade
3 Oblivion Ring
3 Mana Reflection
3 Mind Spring

Lands
2 Seaside Citadel
7 Forest
4 Island
1 Swamp
1 Plains
1 Mountain

I know you got the Mana creatures, but that land mix still looks low and far off. Casting Cancel is not going to be easy at all.

mono-red is pretty bad right now, also volcanic fallout is the most important card in the format so if you want to steal some games you'll need it without it, even your "good" matchup(faeries) becomes bad

its a 0-5 to 2-3 type deck with most of the wins coming from other casual players

For FNM, this isn't terrible, especially if you're getting back into magic.

Like what was said earlier, Volcanic Fallout is the nuts. Uncounterable instant speed pyroclasm that hits players? Yes please.

Shard Volley is really meh. The R/B versions, which can run Doom Blade (which is actually better than Terminate in this format, due to Burrenton Forge-Tender, which is actually one reason why mono red isn't good right now) is a little bit better. However, making the mana base is going to be tough with Auntie's Hovels or Graven Cairns. Also, if you have Boggart Ram-Gang, get it in there.

I was thinking of putting in Tarfire for Shard Volley and Main Decking Volcanic Fallout.

Keep in mind my FNM scene is not exactly hoping with pros and top decks. I figure its a good easy deck to get back into the swing of things in Type II before the big switch in October.

Splash black for Blightning? Disc 2 cards + 3 dmg = Jackpot

I'm PTQ'ing in two weeks and playing.... wait for it... R/B aggro.

I came up with the same deck that Fujimoto used to Top Eight Japan Nationals, which is a bit annoying, but oh well. My list will look something like this:

4 Figure Of Destiny
4 Hellspark Elemental
4 Demigod Of Revenge
3 Anathemancer

4 Flame Javelin
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Volcanic Fallout
4 Tarfire
4 Blightning
1 Banefire

13 Mountain
1 Swamp
4 Dragonskull Summit
4 Graven Cairns
2 Reflecting Pool

Sideboard:
4 Doom Blade
3 Chaotic Backlash
3 Everlasting Torment
3 Earthquake
1 Anathemancer
1 Banefire

that deck looks like fun kyleb. two questions why the frown on r/b aggro? and why is it annoying that fujimoto used it?

Probably because people will expect it - though that said it's not like B/R aggro is some big surprise deck I think with Anathemancer being so sick at the minute

It's not a frown - more like "This is more of the same." If you look back in this thread, you'll see I played R/B aggro at GP: Seattle to Top 64.

I think it's annoying that Fujimoto made the top eight with a burn-central deck that I was planning on adapting to - I thought most people would expect me to run the Tattermunge Maniac + Jund Hackblade version.

BTW, Earthquake is the nuts.

wtf no. Only bad matchup is Kithkin, which gets smashed by 5cc. There's a ton of Faeries, 5cc, and Jund in the PTQs - all good matchups for red.

Check here for sanctioned tournaments in your area:

https://webapp.wizards.com/tournaments.aspx

Can't remember who runs PTQs in NY now that Neutral Ground is closed (RIP ). Check here for PTQs for PT: Austin:

EDIT: Looks like there's one on August 30th in Rochester. That's not very close to NYC, though.

Wow, Neutral Ground closed? What happened, that place was crazy.

Yea, it looks like there is not much of anything on Long Island.

So, we have a cruise qualifier tournament this saturday; first place wins a trip on some magic cruise, or a case, or a flight and entry to some US Grand Prix and side events.

Between the two of us, we have Kithkin and RB built. Would one deck be better in a field where you don't know the meta?

sometimes in pack 3 of an 8-4 you get a 3rd pick foil rootbound crag and a 4th pick crag
