after you both pass, damage is assigned and dealt in one smooth motion

At declare blockers it is the attacker who must act or pass first, right? Is the attacker then supposed to get another chance to respond after the blocker takes an action? This was how I understood it but I didn't get a chance to respond to a blocker action yesterday so was wondering if I just have my stops setup wrong or something.

Yes you did. You need to open that promo pack that Wizards give you when you signed up that contains lands and Vanguard avatars (not a normal booster pack, NEVER open those).

This is one of those decks where I don't really like Sleep. It is good, but you have to be on the offensive to do it. Usually, UB isn't good enough to do it.

Drudge Skeletons and Wall of Bone are really solid and definitely auto-includes IMO. They stop a lot of attacks (especially from the 2/1s), and can give you time to get to 11 mana for Colossus. If you want to play black (since Royal Assassian is nuts), I suggest dropping the sleeps for 1 Drudge and the Wall.

In any case, I think your colors should be U/G, which will help you ramp up to 11, and let you swing with creatures. In your current build, almost all your creatures, except a handful are defense creatures. Green provides you with 3 ramp spells, Grizzly Bears, a 3/3, a 4/4 Trample, and an Acidic Slime, which almost always hits something relevant. Prized Unicorn is nuts, and you have some good support with Giant Spider and Mist Leopard. I think its the best color combination you have. Too bad you didn't have a couple of more playable white cards. Double Blinding Mage is really sick.

From the deck you have, I would do the following:
-Black (9 cards)
-1 Divination
-1 Horned Turtle (he's good, but a final cut. I think with green, you deck is aggressive enough to not need him)

+Acidic Slime
+Stampeding Rhino
+Prized Unicorn
+Mist Leopard
+Giant Spider
+Centaur Courser
+Borderland Ranger
+2 Rampant Growth
+Grizzly Bears
+Elvish Visionary

Even though you have more blue-intensive cards than green, I would go 9 Forest, 8 Island, since you have a ton of fetch.

Cool. I would cut a forest for that too.

This is one of those classic "bomb in mediocre color" vs "solid, but not bombtastic" color. I like more solid colors, especially at a pre-release, but it is kinda a perference thing.

What's the best way to get good enough to play in tournaments? I see drafting is the most popular but if I jump right in im sure ill get destroyed, is there a way to practice drafting?

Depends what type of tournaments. To be honest, the best way to get better at magic is to know which creatures should attack, and how you should block. If possible, I would play some of the tenth edition (or are they m10 now?) free precon decks agaisnt other players. The quality isn't great, but you should learn when to be aggressive, and when to hold back.

After that, I would invest in a pauper constructed deck, so you start playing most of your spells in the 2nd main phase, play instants, get familiar with the stack....etc. Drafting is fairly complicated, and to be honest, I think to get good at limited, starting with sealed decks i easier, since you kinda know what to do.

Thanks. I have been playing pauper constructed for a few days now, and getting better with the deck I bought.

How about this sealed deck? The lack of removal makes me a little sad, but 2x Cudgel Troll makes me happy

the best thing about m10 sealed is that you can now make the suggest/done land distribution in deckbuilding

Here's another one. Not too thrilled with how it worked out. Maybe including the blue splash was silly. Was hard to get to 23 playables in WB only though. Any thoughts?

negate might be stronger than essence scatter, stopping overruns and whatnot is pretty key

Bugstud definitely make that **** UG, and wtf dont play darksteel colossus lol.

With UG you have 4 color fixers, so you can definitely splash lightning bolt, plus helps with your UU spells.
