My friend had never played Magic before and so I taught him (even after people in here helped me and I was still kinda new). He was able to basically make mythic (like 2 wins off it prob) making super weird jank mill decks that completely countered the meta a few patches ago. It was the weirdest **** too and no idea how he came up with these ideas, they're so bizarre. But people had never seen them and didn't know what to do or expect lol (he played bo1 so mehhh).

If you go the control/removal route, just need to have a good matchup against either sultai ramp or rug adventure.

WW isn't even very good against monoR. Embercleave and Anax are really rough.

This set's flavor is so weird but kinda cool. Overall I like the mutate mechanic but I think it is unlikely to be super competitive. I'm glad that the creature comes into play if you destroy the target and this mechanic would be terrible otherwise. Still I think that will limit the effectiveness of it by quite a bit, even though some of these mutate cards are quite pushed obviously. I guess my main issue with them is when I compare them to the inherent power of like Torbran, I'm like ya its no Torbran. I think the cycling counterspell is just bonkers and will take over the format once 3feri is gone.

Also MonoR is the fastest deck people in the internets are not very patient so they just pick the fastest deck to get as much win they can ina limited time. This was the same problem with Face huntard in HS

BO1 is not broken, BO1 players are endlessely trolling themselves in that meta. There's no fix to that problem except erasing the whole humanity but that seems like an overreaction
I've played 100's of games on the Bo1 ladder. It could not be more obvious that the shuffling algorithm (which we already know is not random) favors mono-red. (For example, Embercleave is in their hand by turn 3 99% of the time.) I conjecture it's because WoTC wants to make it easy for new players to climb the ladder by simply playing that deck.

It favors mono red because you can run a low land count and be less likely to start with a 0 or 1-lander due to it drawing multiple hands and picking the one with the "best" distribution. This is common knowledge.

Bo1 is just a dumb format meant for new players.

Bo1 is a format designed for people who don't want to play 45 minute Bo3 matches and have to buy an extra 7 mythics for the sideboards.

Yeah its not great. Gyruda is cancer tier in bo1 so I'll be sticking to rdw until Gyruda and Fires are no longer 79% of the metagame. I think its a bad format when the strongest decks hate out every meme casual strat and only metagame decks are viable. The power level on the best cards like fires and embercleave are so high that it seems the case.

That said, there is a daily deal today of 400 gems for 2000g so I'd suggest logging on for that today if nothing else.

I was watching some stream yesterday and noticed a timer during the draft ( like 30 secs?), does that mean you draft against players and not the computer?
I don't remember that timer when I played a few months ago.

It's a big improvement for arena because the previous bot drafting was atrocious.

I've mostly been playing the 500g historic events when I am done with my quests, using either an all RB list very similar to below or the below splashing 1 forest for the flip of status stature. The idea is once there is a chainwhirl or mayhem in the yard, you call of the death-dweller it with a deathtouch counter and wog them. Mayhem plus catcombo is soft lot against a lot of decks ofc. Call is for sure the MVP of the deck, is super versatile and wins games where you have no business coming back. A lot of times it brings back a firebrand to kill something that has to die. This card makes for a lot of creative lines where I'm sure a better player than me can steal a lot of wins.

I think in the RB version I had another kroxa and some some random sacrifice creatures, and a 4th priest but honestly you rarely want to get 2 of these. I didn't run status stature at all in the RB version so I think I could go either way on that card, its not necessary in my opinion. Probably a lot of improvement and tuning for the list is possible as well.

The deck has a very good matchup against monored (like in standard) and most beat down decks, crushes elf based decks. Gruul match is soso but its definitely winnable, maybe 55/45 for whoever goes first, there's not much you can do about their best draws when they go first. The main trick against control is to always play oven when they are tapped out and if you have it in your opener, don't be greedy play it turn 1 before it can get discarded or countered.

I just beat someone memeing with thran temporal gateway deck where they landed a turn 5 gishath that hit a verdant sun's avatar and then after i killed both of those he put down a turn 6 zacama. Most of the losses have been against grixis fires that has been a big part of the meta for some weird reason, granted sample size is like 20 bo1s. I don't see how grixis fires can win against monored or the better control decks so maybe just weird fluke.

I took a break at the release of the new set to go back to hearthstone.

Looks like a wise decision. Companion was just such a blatantly stupid design.

I thought they were going to make it where you just got the card in your hand but I guess that has issues with the handsize rule but randomly paying 3 is kinda weird. All companions except Yorion are unplayable imo. Honestly Agent and Fires were great bans.

The oldest cards? When the game isn't relevant any more, so I think it is fine for at least another 10+ years. The 2000 and later cards, probably few are relevant any more due to powercreep of its expensive now on average I'd say it stays that way but my advice on this is probably not the most informed. Example the best, oldest 3 mana planeswalkers and flip cards probably stay relevant for some time and most of the old creatures have sucked for a long time. Power9 etc will stay valuable as long as people play the game. When people my age (40ish) start dying I think the game will be dead and crash to infinity minus. Hope that helps.
