That's part of my point. However, Arena and esports will sink paper in the long run!!!

I doubt paper will sink. LGS here still has massive launch for new sets.

To quote from Hasbro's CEO talking about their end of year results:

Quote:
Magic: The Gathering revenues increased more than 30% in the year, behind double-digit growth in tabletop play and a strong first year for Magic: The Gathering Arena.
Given that the trend in tabletop play is actually upwards at the moment, despite Arena being the main area of investment, I don't see any convincing argument that the physical game is going away in any foreseeable time-frame.

Ignoring all the other random speculation, the value in a Black Lotus isn't because people are playing tournaments with it.

I do want big tournaments played on arena though. Watching coverage of paper play is awful.

I didn't realise there was no paper magic at worlds.
I read an article where they said it's crazy there was no mention at all of the tabletop game during the event, which is their main event.
Agree with value of cards being independant of tourneys.

I was wondering, people qualified to worlds via tabletop tourneys right?
Did wizard give arena accounts to tabletop players with full collection?

Yes to your questions. Actually more fair then making people bring cards. Bunch of people got ****ed in the legacy part of the team pt

How so, can't they just scan their cards into Arena or something (you would think)? This is to the Legacy people getting fvcked!

Wonder when WSOP will go to computer based around a table without a dealer. It will be more fair because you just click buttons. If you screw up your clicks then that's on you!!!

How many people regularly play paper legacy? Like 1000?

If the main event was constantly decided by the dealer awarding pots to the wrong person or people "accidentally" ending up with three hole cards then I'd recommend going computer-based too.

Yeah, sorry wasn't clear. The Legacy players were messed up because they had to make sure they had all the cards (and the best deck was discovered very late). This can be up to $5k. If a team didn't have the ability to get the cards for the deck they wanted, they were screwed. There were some cool people who offered to lend cards pro bono, but it still was a major issue. Having fully stocked online accounts is so, so much better than making people pay for cards.

MTG Arena standard, at least Bo1, is totally broken right now. At least 80% of the decks are mono-red, and it has a 90% win rate against non mirror decks, most of those being a turn 3-4 kill. So you are forced to play that deck to compete. Part of the problem is the non-random shuffler, which gives a *huge* advantage to that deck.

It's like the same problems that chess.com has. In other words it's harder to beat players on chess.com than in live in-person chess games just like Magic: The Gathering

Bo1 is just stupid since the game isn't designed to be played that way.

Mono red is not very good in BO3 so decklists people are using are not built to beat monoR but Temur, Simic Walkers deck and RB sacrifice

People are bad so they play 2 games with a deck not built to beat monoR, they lose to MonoR and then play MonoR because everybody is doing it

Also MonoR is the fastest deck people in the internets are not very patient so they just pick the fastest deck to get as much win they can ina limited time. This was the same problem with Face huntard in HS

BO1 is not broken, BO1 players are endlessely trolling themselves in that meta. There's no fix to that problem except erasing the whole humanity but that seems like an overreaction

When the meta was all frenzy red a year ago it was very easy to farm mmr with lifegain esper. Not saying thats the solution right now, but just play the meta and wins will follow imo.
