Indeed. For a long time, the play experience on MTGO left a lot to be desired. I have given up on EDH FFA there as the vast majority of games end up with a 1v3 of casual decks versus a super tuned t1 decks. This has been exacerbated by the fact that more serious EDH players (read people who understand t1 versus t3 is not fun) seem to have moved to discord groups and private lobbies. Except specific constructed formats, MTGO is already a dead game imo.

Draw Anything Draft:

I queue in and before it's my turn, Divination > Lava Axe > Lava Axe > Salvager of Secrets to get back Lava Axe from graveyard > Lava Axe > Lightning Bolt.

I'm at 2.

I know there are worse and more unfair things but this made me immediately resign my deck as there was no way I'm ever winning a game with the stuff I drafted compared to the broken **** people have already figured out is optimal to be drafting. I thought we were allowed to spend 1 of each type of mana on each turn given the description of the buff you get (It says you start with 1 of each color mana). I didn't realize every card was just going to be 0 cost with no regard to mana colors at all. Why does it say "Every turn get one mana of each color"?

Oh well.

Even manage to kill T1 on the draw after getting mindroted

Tried various Golgari builds and messed with Muldroth Golgari a lot. Others included Vraska GB, Vraska GBu, Journey to Eternity lock, and explore reanimator. Golgari and espesh Vraska Golgari Queen planeswalker is pretty meh. Noticed a lot of the time I either cast Carnage tyrant or lose (like casting a 5cc reanimation spell for 6 mana carnage tyrant is so bad but pretty close to the best thing one can expect from the archtype). So...

Carnage Tyrant goes pretty well with Journey, so this is my current arena constructed deck, which I am calling Journey to Carnage. Not too serious. Need 2 find/finality, another vine mare and 2 more duals. I guess I would cut the branchwalkers and a either a trashing or a findbroker for vine/find if I had them, but maybe that is sacrificing too much early blocking. Probably better to cut both findbrokers and 1 thrashing. Find/Finality is insane and the 2nd best card in the deck. That said, maybe 4 would be overkill because I'm sure 2 in the opening grip is pretty bad.

Question for people who have been around MTG longer. Are shock lands and check lands generally reprinted so as to constantly stay in Standard?

I'm finding them to be a huge bottleneck and hope we don't have to craft new lands every time we rotate.

I've got so many decks now where I have gathered all the necessary pieces drafting / etc but needing 5-6 more rare WC's for the lands holds me back from being able to play it.

Historically they've been in standard something like 40% of time. So, much more common than any other card, but not always in.

Are there other lands that rotate in occasionally (other than the abundant check-lands)? I have only played MTG in current standard as well as a little stint around 2013 and it was the same 2 rare lands then.

there are usually two sets of dual lands with a condition to come in untapped in a standard format. the shocklands are the best, others are based on if you have fewer than two total lands in play, showing a land of the right type from your hand, etc.

I agree that rare wildcards for lands are a huge bottleneck towards playing a variety of constructed decks. I get like one a week, it is taking absolutely forever

The lands that have been reprinted in standard:

shocks
checklands (Glacial Fortress)
Fetches
Painlands (Adarkar Wastes)

I don't think the fetches are ever coming back to standard

at least I hope they don't, although once pro play moves to arena it would be fine

Net deck constructed and play the gold constructed queue. Its basically easy infinity if you want to grind out for packs and fill your collection a wildcard at a time.

Yeah its real dumb, I have more mythic rares than rares stockpiled, wish they had a pseudo crafting system where i could turn a mythic into X rares (2? 3? idk)

i'd be happy if they removed the mythic from the 6 pack wildcard rotation.

so many rares are key 4-ofs in the top decks in addition to 20 dual lands that will be in standard. 80 rare wildcards just to have all the lands, otherwise you are cut off from playing an archetype

Good luck with Arclight Phoenixes and Teferis and random 4-of walkers then

Hi,

I have a somewhat valueable mtgo collection (2 full sets of ABU duals, 30 Force of Will). I'd like to sell it. What are my options? I'd prefer bitcoin > EUR bank wire > Paypal > other options

I heard good things about cardhoarder, are there any alternatives?

thanks guys

Unfortunately, the best return is to sell the highest value cards individually. If you sell in bulk you will not get anywhere close to the value. I had a 20k+ card collection, mostly junk from drafting but also probably $2k-3k in value of very good multiplayer cards (playsets of most fetchlands and ravnica lands, 1.5k rares, 30 tix, 15 packs no longer available for sale, etc etc). I ended up getting like $400 on ebay for the whole batch in bulk, which was more than the card resellers offered me. This was not too long after they removed the multiplayer lobby which reduced the value of cards a lot, but before it was possible to buy 50 rares for a ticket. YMMV

the major bots are going to pay about the same amount in tix per card, you just won't be able to sell all those copies to one. I've always used cardhoarder to cash out tix with no issues.

So since playing Arena, I've come to love this game again, which I have not really played with any regularity since about twenty years ago. I would like to play Commander, but obviously that is not an option in Arena.

I am wondering if it is worth it to get into MTGO at this point. I can put together a pretty cheap commander deck these days, with the cratering prices and all. I am worried that I have to pay $10 to even take a look inside the program, and that I may find that there aren't really regular games on there these days. I have tried the program a few times over the years with the free trial, but you can't even take a look at the lobby with the free trial.

Is it worth it to get into MTGO these days, with Arena clearly being superior for standard play?

MTGO is still fine and recently the player numbers have started to rebound.

If you want manacrypts, dual lands, sac lands, planeswalkers and the best commander precon commanders, you will not find it cheap to play. A t1 commander deck is at least $50. If you are ok with playing a more casual deck, you can make one for less than $5. Depends in my opinion if you are willing to lose games due to deck powerlevel. Ofc once you buy the staples then the investment in made and you don't need to buy another one. I'd suggest putting a $5-10 on and making a deck, and going from there if you are unsure. Its pretty low risk.

hmmmm. If I played MTGO back in 2002/4ish (?) would my collection still be alive if I somehow remembered my account details?

They did an account purge a long time ago maybe 2010 timeframe but it would be linked to the email account. Try password reset and find out.

Got tired of waiting for the Mac version and finally caved and am playing with Wine. Game gets my fan going very quickly which was somewhat surprising. ~2015 Macbook Air, i7, 8GB RAM.. guessing it might be the Intel onboard graphics that's the issue?

As far as gameplay goes, are there settings changes that let me progress through each phase manually? I've seen keyboard shortcuts to go "full control" but haven't quite been able to figure that out. Want to be able to perform upkeep actions, bluff having an instance on opponents turn, etc.

edit: Also haven't figured out how to manually tap lands lol. I'm guessing the auto-tapping isn't always ideal.
