Been on MTGA for maybe two weeks now. Been playing constructed events with the Mono Blue Tempo deck with pretty good success.

This draft had me flip flopping quite a bit, and ended up 3 colors. Didn't have too high expectations, but Im 6-2 so far. Opponents in BO1 queue can be quite bad and variance in BO1 magic is very high.

In other news I've drafted about 20+ times. Haven't drafted Selesnya ever, probably should have gone for it when offered Camaraderie P1P1, I just have this illogical hate for GW, that maybe stems from old magic. White gets a lot better removal for limited now.

Anyway for me so far drafting have been like this Dimir>Boros>Golgari>Izzet and Seles???? since I haven't gone for it yet. Boros is very boring to play, and Izzet I think I miss value some cards, if anyone have examples of good Izzets drafts and what makes them come together I would like some info. Same for Seles.

For people who play both Magic Online and MtgA, Im wondering how much the bot drafters matter? I feel like the bots sometimes lets good cards stay in the pack very late, for instance, but I haven't drafted

Also been hoarding Wildcards, since I can't decide on a constructed deck, and I enjoy limited more, until I can make all decks.

This got a little over the top, so posting all the picture in this thread would probably clutter it too much, anyway, draft with comments:

https://imgur.com/a/uDBBvmu

Some picks Im 95% certain on, just checking, other spots I think is quite interesting. The pictures got a little out of order.

For those who just want to play the cutting game, 44 cards, cut 4.

Overall the deck seems quite good, and I got fed well.

Also I may be taking MtgA way too seriously....

EDIT: Relevant info, it is the BO1 queue, so NO sideboarding. Some cards obv go up or down in value under these circumstances.

Both of the green guilds are pretty bad

The bots make systematic errors, but they're a black box so it's not obvious what they are. In Dominaria you could draft a good mono red deck every time.

It seems to me that the bots are severely underrating Dimir cards. The uncommon payoffs (Thoughtbound Phantasm, Dimir Spybug and Disinformation Campaign) are all reasonable first picks that you will routinely get pretty late.

I have had no success drafting Izzet, which people outside of Arena seem to think is the strongest guild. There might be some bot pick order bias going on there.

Yeah Spybug and disinformation campaign are insane and the AI never picks them early, which is part of why draft actually sucks now imo. All I play or see is dimir and boros with occasionally splashing green or boros splashing blue. But yeah really, really repetitive just facing mirror matches almost every game. I really enjoyed the core draft much more, although that was when I was also brand new to the game. But now

I believe they promised 8man draft like Magic Online at some point, probably like league. But real drafting.

I tend to agree core draft was more diverse and interesting, which is ironic and logical.

I think it would be interesting if they left quick draft as the solo draft option and competitive draft as pod drafting.

Haven't been online to put this to use, but found this video pretty helpful as an explanation of the gems/gold economy.

Cliffs, Quests+Constructed for Gold then convert Gold->Gems via Quick Draft. Never Quick Draft with gems.

"Never Quick Draft with gems." unless you are able to go infinite and play too much, in this case you don't generate enough gold, but generate gems.

QD is a lot softer than Comp Draft, and lower variance, hence the ability to go infinite early stages are better here. When you have a big enough "bankroll" of gems CD may be a better choice.

This is all under the assumption that the goal is to get all the cards/(all constructed playables) without spending money other than the first 5 dollars.

Other than that it is in line with my recommendations for skilled players with too much time

Another thing I've noticed about the bots pick pattern, they absolutely love black 1/1 death touch. I'm quite certain they pick it over the Deadly Visit.

Are there any good sites for MTGA strategy? Most sites I've seen aren't very in depth.

I don't really understand how to draft. I have only done one and got 2 or 3 wins. Whichever gives you 300 gems.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I'll ever play MTGA extensively, but I have to say the limited time I've played it feels a little nicer than Hearthstone as a beginner.

Just downloaded Arena today. Not too bad. Won 5 matches in my first draft.

They ever have big tournaments on here?

It is still beta, it very recently went open beta. No big tourneys yet.

I'm pretty sure they promised PTQs at some point

Golgari, Boros, Izzet, Mono-blue, Mono-Red and Teferi decks are the contenders.

Everyone thought Golgari was the deck, but the new Boros decks annihilate it. Tocatil Honor Guard and Rekindling Phoenix are both tough to beat for Golgari.

Once the blue white guild gets cards in the next set I'm pretty sure it's just going to be all Teferi mirrors.

I made a pretty effing sweet mill deck that wins like 40% of it's games in the scrub tier so that's my meta right now.

Sweet deck.... winrate lower than 50 %.... me no comprende???

Unless you don't care if you win or loss, as long as you win in ridiculous ways some of the time.
