I'm newish to MTG and just dropped a bunch of money recently on cards to play with my daughter at the kitchen table. I signed up for this, but with how the rules of Magic allow your opponent to interrupt you during your turn, how the hell would an online format work?

Imagine if your salty opponent in Hearthstone was allowed to let the rope run down 5 times per turn.

I feel like they'll have to cater the new card sets to the software, and get rid of all the wonky **** that Magic is/was known for. Or maybe that has already begun. I played a little back in the 90s but then haven't touched it until about a month ago. My daughter really likes it. Hearthstone RNG drives me mad, but I'd play an online version of MTG if one were available.

each player has a clock for the match, if you run out of time you lose

Okay, well that's just fantastic then.

Not ideal for people like me who are still having to read all the cards, but certainly solves the issue of *******s wasting your time.

Very interested in the mtg:arena but I hope they change the design cause I just looked some gameplay and the board looks terrible to me.
This perspective doesn't help at all, hindering the visibility big time.
I will try it out for sure, hopefully in the beta

Arena clock is so good. It's a building time bank. So if you don't use much time on turn 1, that extra time gets thrown into the time bank for complicated turns. Wish MTGO had something similar

My perspective is this is true for now, but they gave strong hints that if Arena is successful they will move to adapt older stuff. I can't imagine MTGO surviving another 5 years if Arena is as good as it looks. I think they know MTGO is a dying business model. But I do think they'll do some sort of redemption if that happens.

You can't really use MTGO as a beginner, game is too expensive and skill level is very high.

Prob too late but cut hijack, costly plunder, skinshifter, blight keeper, swashbuckling and probably Marauder's.

people getting incredibly worked up over wizards not publishing everyones list on mtgo is by far the weirdest part of the mtg community that i have encountered

Unfortunately I missed my opportunity to get into the priority beta on this one. Heard about it a bit too late and noticed I was eligible for priority queue about 2 days after the deadline had passed :S

I am pretty hopeful that they can put this string of crappy "Magic Lite" attempts in the past and have a solid Hearthstone/Eternal quality client and can give us Magic with a reasonable yearly price tag associated with it.

DKGO's enthusiasm with it so far is certainly uplifting.

Posting to subscribe, I saw the beta signups but i think it was just on Windows PCs so not for me atm. Haven’t played Magic in years but this forum got me hooked on Eternal so im definitely interested in getting back into card games. Guess it’s just a waiting game until they come out with a mobile version.

Arena will be officially announced 16.2.

Personally, I'm not a fan of it and prefer MTGO.

I just got back into MTGO, hearthstone got too boring. Magic Duels was terribad, I fear Arena will be the same, so I wouldn't dumb my MTGO collection now, if I had one.

I have some optimism for Arena, but it's a piece of crap in its current state.

obviously theres a LOT of ux refining to do but I havent had any issues with the actual gameplay. checked out the beta forums once, of course the biggest threads are about how the game is broken because someone flooded three times in a row and the usual idiocy you hear about ccgs. not sure how much detail I can talk about elsewhere but was hoping for better discussion.

biggest question to me is if they stick with best of 1 matches. it definitely feels better but would make for a very different metagame
