I guess you don't have any 2drop heroic enablers which is what hero really wants something like stratus walk pay 4 win game
Hero really isn't very good. All the situations you're talking about I'd just prefer to have something like a prescient chimera, instead of hero plus a second card making basically the same body for the same or greater mana cost. If you're actually heroic focused it can be ok as it's a decent draw early or late, which is nice for that sort of deck, but in a midrange/controlly deck without cheap heroic enablers it's just very meh.

Reaper is the only card in the pool with a high enough power level that I'd even consider splashing but I don't think it's worth it.

he's pretty meh in the pool but if you have 1/2drop enablers he's absolutely bonkers good

you get +3/+3 or higher easily in those decks and he becomes a superdragon

I still don't see how a 1/1 for 1 that becomes a 4/4 flier if you spend 5 mana and another card (stratus walk example) is better than just spending 5 mana on one card that is a 3/4 flier with upside and having that extra card still in your hand to use elsewhere.

There is basically no situation I can think of where I would rather have hero + an enabler than a solid creature that costs as much as you're paying for the enabler + heroic trigger.

I would take a favored hoplite over hero in any deck that was interested in being aggressive and would take a solid 5/6 drop over hero in any deck that wasn't and that is pretty much regardless of the herioc enablers I have in both situations.

BoTG pre-release seems really soft. Bought the black pack every time, played black/red every time.

Blue is most +EV btw. I think black in BotG is godawful.

Well, it is more about ending with a good pool of cards and black is a strong color overall (removal!). I'm playing sealed, which I forgot to mention.

I know. I'm saying black is awful in BotG and very mediocre in Theros. The common removal black has in BotG is terrible. Red might be best color in BotG but it is bad in Theros.

Blue > Red > Others as far as prerelease colors go. Green is also probably fine since it is so strong in Theros but it is not strong in BotG.

Like obv you can have good deck in every color if you hit the good commons of the colors, it is just much easier if you pick the colors with deeper common pools that don't rely on one or two particular commons.

Played 4 prereleases. Blue just seems way ridiculous. First one did blue, second red and was disappointed. Went blue for last two.
Black def looked the worse to me.

Yup. That 3/3 vigilance guy is super annoying. Along with akroan sky guard and fall of the hammer. I played a RW that had a 9/9 on turn 4 with akroan hoplite then bestowed eidolon of countless battles.

Fall of the Hammer is much better than it looks btw. Realized this myself after playing against it the first time 2 weeks ago. Also works really well with deathtouch (and obviously heroic).

Fall of the hammer might be the best red common out of BNG?
How do you guys feel about gorgon head? I've been picking it pretty highly. So nice having your stupid 2/1 you draw on turn 10 being an actual threat.

Bolt of K is better because it is more reliable and you can't get 2-for-1'd. Fall is probably tied for 2nd with 2/3 inspire minotaur.

Head is ok I guess? Haven't played with it or against it yet, but I'm bit worried it is just too slow + it offers ugly blowouts to few instant naturalizes in format. Since I don't have time to use it early (bc you can get so badly behind in tempo, basically trading your creature + 3 mana for their creature), it might be better to just have another higher-end creature. Probably like 6th-8th pick. I think I pick all solid removal and creatures over it. Card is best in colors that have first strikers.

Playing my first MTGO in about a month today while the Hearthstone servers are down and... holy ****. It's hard to imagine how I spent as much time as I did with MTGO. They really need to adopt the Hearthstone "Arena" format or something similiar for MTGO (Evan Irwin from The Magic Show is a big proponent of this as well).

Comparatively so much of any given MTGO tournament is just... waiting. It's mind numbing. The ratio of time spent playing the game vs. time spent with your thumb up your ass is way off. :-/

yeah playing an beat down deck in a tourney is like 10 mins of playing and 50 mins of waiting for the control/prison mirror to finish

You guys know you are allowed to do other things during the waiting downtime, right?

Great time to get some pushups in, write up those emails you owe people, call your mom, learn something new, take out the trash, wash the dishes, do the laundry, etc.

Yep, and that's how it usually goes for me these days.

If I want to have fun -----> Load up Hearthstone

If I want to get chores done -----> Load up MTGO

I just got a Hearthstone key. Played the tutorial for about half an hour an had no desire to continue. It's beautiful, but is it fun? I want it to be, but I'm just not feeling it.

I've had a lot of fun with it. The Arena limited format is great, and the tutorials are pretty simple compared to the "full" game.
