I can't say Clanteam is the best bot since I haven't done the leg work, but I've found them to offer me top tickets for stuff 99% of the time, and I've been using them for a long time.

fairly sure clanteam isn't big on foils, and I know goatbots aren't.

I ended up 76th for $250. I started out 2-2 (beating a friend I drove to the event in round 3) with one bye. Hanging on by a thread, I ended up beating one of the local PT qualifiers to get into day 2.

Using the new trigger policy, my Pegasus was an all star! "That block is illegal" was my favorite thing to say.

Most sideboarded games I cut a plains for the Flamespeaker Adept.

The coolest play I made was a guy needed a blocker and cast Commune with the Gods for Ember Swallower can casted it with no cards and 3 lands up against my Flamespeaker and Anax and Cymede. I top-decked Rage of Purphoros, casted it on the Swallower and scryed. I then moved to combat and he snap blocks my Flamespeaker and said in relief, "Trade." I then responded with "First Strike Damage?" and he was pretty sad after I pointed out that Flamespeaker had first strike.

Day 2, I p1p1 Wingsteed over Boon Satyr but then get shipped Double Tactics and some good red.

Pretty easy 3-0.

I was excited that my second draft deck turned out pretty well, but then I got matched up against two RG meh decks that had Asp. Apparently my first opponent had double Mistcutter, so I was drawing dead to that too. Oh, and both RG players that I played were on either side of me for the draft.

Round 15, I need to win to cash and I end up playing Numot. We had some really good games, but game 3 Sphinx locked it up.

Guys,

I haven't really played in years and years (and years), but pondering getting into it again. Never really did online, so any suggestions on where/how to start?

What is your goal?

Do you want to go infinite with as little money as possible?
Do you want to play competitive formats to test and get better?
Do you want to draft a few nights a week to avoid going to your LGS?

The goal would be to have a fun gaming option to spend a few hours on each week to substitute for other products.

I don't want to dump tons of money into it, but undoubtedly overtime there will be some reasonable investment. Let's not kid ourselves, it always happens. I've loved and played these games for many, many years, and enjoy the competitive aspect of it that forces me to get better.

In terms of drafting a few nights a week, I'm not really sure just yet. I may get there.

After you make an account, you should buy event tickets from the MTGO store. Then you should find a bot (I recommend GOATbots, but you can find others with similar prices) and buy some packs. Then enter the limited queues and then you should be good to go.

By buying packs from a bot, you typically save 2-3 dollars per draft.

Drafter here, kind of tired of cockatrice. Are there ways to go infinite while spending very little amounts of money?
Guides or advice?

I heard it was not unthinkable to go infinite with phantom drafts?

Constructed is your best bet unless you're in the top 5% of drafters.

The best way to start grinding is the Momir basic format. It's all combat math.

Phantom events won't get you infinite because of the new phantom points that are given out as prizes that are basically worthless.

That's sad. How do you go infinite on constructed without much monies? Don't you have to shell out a bunch to buy a top tier deck?
Pauper or something? Not really what I'm looking to do.
Is Momir the thing where you just have a bunch of lands and discard them to make creatures? Seems like there would be a ton of variance in that?

The math for going infinite is here ^^^

cliffs: you need to be very very good to go infinite drafting any format

Pauper is a good start. Other formats are expensive, yes. Though you can resell the deck you'll take a loss in most instances, particularly if you wait until near rotation.

Momir has a ton of variance for sure, but is still +EV even at 50% win. Though only barely. Mostly it's just pretty fun as long as you don't play it constantly and you have some hilarious situations.

What do you mean by this? I assume the foil talk ITT were people who picked up foils in drafts and wants to sell them for a price that's higher than the non-foil version.

I found my alternative to the expensive money wasting game.

Cardhunter. Awesome game and it's literally free to play.

It's like a mix of mtg, d&d & diablo.

If you get an extra 2% on a 10 ticket sale, you've made yourself 20c. I suspect that the marginal value of the 20c is not worth the time to obtain it...
The problem is that the difference between a random offer and the best offer is not usually 2%, especially on foils and obscure cards. A large number (perhaps the majority?) of bots in the classified exist purely to lowball people, and the difference can easily be 50% or higher. You could easily sell a Force of Will for 30 to a bot if you didn't know better.

Unfortunately there is no good way to unload high value foils or eternal cards. You either have to sell them individually either looking around through bots or putting up an ad in the classifieds, which can take a lot of time, or you sell to a bot for less than you'd like. Wizards should make the trading interface better, but let's be realistic that it won't happen any time soon. Not only is it not a high priority given the state of the client, it's in their interest to make it difficult to trade cards. They intentionally made a system where the quantum for trading is $1 when 99% of cards cost less than that. Trading is a necessary evil to them.

http://www.supernovabots.com/prices_3.txt
Is an ok source for foil prices, but only if a spread exists. If they are only buying or only selling, it's possible their price is out of line with the market. You can also try www.mtgotraders.com to see what the high end of value is since they have very comprehensive stock.

I agree that Goatbot is good for standard legal non-foils, but both Goatbot and Clanteam are not big into foils. FOILPRINCESS is usually competitive, but not always. If you are liquidating your entire collection you can get a quote from mtgotraders. Their spread is wide, but not as wide as a lot of bots. Liquidating a collection is a painful project, good luck with it.

http://mtgowikiprice.com/ is another source that will give prices across many bots although several of the bigger chains are not included (goatbots, cardbuyingbots, etc). it is great for getting a feel of what cards should go for though.

This chain usually has bad prices on both buying and selling with wide spreads, but are occasionally worth checking especially for older cards. This bot chain rents bots to people for a percentage of their sales and then lists them in their wiki. https://www.mtgolibrary.com/ in case you want more info.
