Bugstud and I both 7-1. They doing a cut at 7-2 after round 9 and playing another sealed round tomm, then doing another cut at 8-2, so need to win 1 of the next 2.

We both ended up at 8-1, get to draft tomorrow no matter what. Round 10 tomm is sealed, followed by a cut of all worse than 8-2, another round of sealed, then 2 draft pods. Gogogoogogo

Also, a bit annoyed as typically when a new set comes out I draft a lot, but I make sure I rare draft all the tournament staples I think I'll be needing. Usually except for a chase mythic or two I can pick up all the cards I want from a set this way.

I currently have a full playset of Godless Shrine, Watery Grave, Sacred Foundry, Stomping Ground, Boros Reckoner, Frontline Medic, Obzedat, Ghost Council, and at least 2-3 copies of every rare in the set (except one).

I was playing u/g/w in Standard before, and the only rare/mythic I was really excited to get out of Gatecrash was Breeding Pool. Of which I have found zero copies.

I know I can easily trade for them, but it still annoys me on some level.

Any recommendations where I can learn some basics for some casual drafts online? Just want to be competitive and learn a little bit before diving in if possible...

Great place to learn, especially how to play limited well (eg. drafting and sealed deck).

Also if you're into podcasts, the guys at http://lrcast.com/ do a really good job with teaching the fundamentals.

9-1, bugstud 8-2, going to try and post my pool after the next round as there will be no more sealed.

Well yeah...what I really meant by that comment was "Is the perception that it's easy packs so it's flooded with people of this caliber?" This is actually the first modo tourney I've played in months. It was just weird to me because even with the level of variance in Momir, if I played 3 matches against that guy I'd be shocked if I lost two of them, so my thinking was "who did you beat to get this far?" Maybe I'm underestimating the luckbox, lol

Notable sideboard:
Skullcrack
2 Furious Resistance
Court Street Denizen(prob should've started him but awkward that 4 of my 6 white guys are 2 drops), but he is still carries my sweet ahead)
Beckon Appiration
Knight Watch
Ripscale Pred
Thunderfist

Notable other cards
Merciless Eviction
Alms Beast
Grisly Spectacle
Nightveil Spectre
Balustrade Spy
Deathcult Rogue

3 Gruul Guildgates, Stomping Ground
ZhurTaa Swine

I built Orzhov and Gruul splash at first but decided on a mediocre aggro deck as opposed over a mediocre control one and didn't want so many tap lands just for the Swine even if its free. Certainly, still not sure I built optimally. Aerial Manuever feels inferior in Main in retrospect.

Lost round 11 vs. guy I had already played. Needed to topdeck land on last turn of game 3 ftw, but didn't get there. Pretty happy with 9-2 with that deck. Rode Madcap Skills and Holy Mantle/Gift of Orzhova to a lesser extent hard.

lol. Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest you were the one thinking of it as easy packs. I just meant anyone who does think that is off their rocker.

I'd say the luckbox factor is strong enough in Momir that finding a truly horrible player a few rounds in isn't that surprising. Another thing to factor in that it's a super casual format based around randomness - a lot of players will choose the interesting play (hittin' those 15 drops, yo!) over the technically best one.

On that note I think I'm going to play some Momir... I love the format because it's really just 100% okay to lose. Either way, you usually get a cool story out of it.

Anyone know how to set a standard game in the beta to be single round instead of match? Didn't seem to be able to find it but I saw other players playing single games.

What's your list like? I put together a UGW deck together in block and would like to see what others are doing.

Speaking of which, a couple fun ones from a match I lost:

-I go Mogg Maniac, Sea Drake, Druid of the Anima, Balduvian Horde (discarding because I've already given up on any kind of long game by this point), some five drop, Deathbringer Thoctar. Mogg Maniac got through 2-3 times because his creatures are too big to block it. He has 4 life vs my 3 Thoctar counters and the RNG hands him Phage to rub it in.

-I go Mountain, Figure of Destiny on the draw. I level on turn 2, level on turn 3, then pull Keymaster Rogue. I have no mountains or plains in hand, so I bounce the Figure. I topdeck Mountain, Mountain and die to flyers.

On an unrelated note, I just last night realized how absurd populate is in this format!

The deck I was playing previously was basically Sphinx's Revelation control, using Thragtusk, Jace, and Supreme Verdict to keep threats mostly under control while I dropped land and accelerated with Farseek, then setting up a revelation chain for massive card advantage and keeping my life total out of range of aggro.

It was pretty popular for awhile, but I haven't played or updated it in quite some time. Not sure if it's still any good. I've seen some Reckoner control lists that might just be pound for pound better.

This was a pretty fun one I had not long ago; spirit.dec with +3+3 tribal pump.
