Ok, so long story short, this girl thinks I play MTG. Because I want to have sex with her, i now need to learn how to play, fast. I went on youtube and got a couple basic videos about how the game plays out. So far my knowledge of the game is: You use creatures to attack your opponents hit points. And you summon those creatures using mana, which you get from land. Thats about all I know about this game.

Where do I go from here? I tried looking online for some practice draft bots/simulators. But I was completely lost on how to even go about this. Halp.

This is probably the first time these words have ever been said.

Go here for the Magic Online Client:
http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnline.aspx

Click on 'How do I use it' for more info on how to use it.

Download the MTGO client (it takes forever, I hope the sexing isn't planned for tonight)

You can play for free once you download the client, it's under 'play free trial'. Feel free to ask any questions here about specific mechanics and whatnot.

Play a bunch of games to learn the mechanics and whatnot. You should be able to learn the basics pretty quickly from there.

lol, would love to hear this full story. you are correct. the best way to learn is probably to download magic online and start messing around, but I cant imagine it would actually be worth doing that to convince a girl that you play magic. lol wtf

Ya that second sentence does not match the first sentence at all, was not what I was expecting. You need to call up Jon Finkle and show him how its done, then maybe he will give you some magic tips. You guys could form some amazing mtg super hero team. You have the super power to find girls that want to bang magic players and Finkle can amaze them with his mtg skills.

Yes,
I'd love to hear this story as well. Picking up the game is not too difficult. Being good at it is another story but you never claimed to be good or actually own any real cards, right? The girl may ask to see your collection, so it might not be a bad idea to open an account and buy some cards.

if anyone is up to speed with modern, is the UB teachings list by beafy at http://www.wizards.com/Magic/digital.../tourn/2803402

a viable one? I have pretty much the entire deck (replace the crappy 10th edition duals with some watery graves since I have those) and it looks way more fun than zoo/breechpost/twin

seems like the list could use a few different cards, annul seems to have twin application but steel sabotage is way better vs affinity, no spell pierce anywhere seems weird, etc? and the 4x death's shadow is super strange

Drafting Theory question:

So p1p1

There is an incinerate, mind control and aether adept.

I know mind control > other cards,
but does the fact that the adept is there make the 2nd player way more likely to splash blue, and therefore cut me off on the next pack?

Same thing happened p1p2

Oblivion ring, Gideons lawkeeper and (nothing else big).

I felt like I was just sealing my fate by taking ORING/MC.

And sure enough my picks were pretty weak after that.

Are the cards powerful enough to ignore the effect on the draft?

No, Adept is double blue, so the guy next to you is going to take incinerate, so the guy next to him might take the adept but he might not.

Mind control is just huge.

Oblivion ring is far better than lawkeeper. Plus you don't have to be base white to play it.

ur overthinkin.

and yeah mind control is way 2 powerfull not to pick it here, and incinerate and adept are on the same powerlevel anyway.

You have just described the best thing EVER in a 3v3 moneydraft - the art of the pass/cut. If you know the guy on your left likes blue (which he should if he's any good since blue is ridic in M12), you take Mind Control, he takes Aether Adept, your teammate gets Incinerate and you pass/cut the **** out of your opponent by sticking him in blue behind you.

Of course if he takes Incinerate and your teammate gets Aether Adept, it sure sucks for him.

Drafted this deck that I went 2-0 2-0 2-0 with, was really fun to play

played six 8-4 m12s the other few days. Got two seconds and no wins

Having basically never played mtgo online before I lol'd lossed in first round of my first draft where i had ridiculousness. I had mind control, sorin markov, sengir vamp , two doomblades solid creature base(hexwing chasm drake, drifting shade child of night warpath ghoul 4/4 bloodthirst vamp) etc. I missed a few steps by not marking them to lose the first game and then i lost the third game on time while spending 5 minutes maximizing my sorin markov ev.

Alright thanks for the tip, I took MC/OR but wasnt positive it was the right choice.

2nd question about color synnergy.

Ive heard White/black is a bad combo, but if its pack 1 second pick and your first pick was a big bomb.
Do you take a HUGE black bomb over a solid white common?

IE
I got sun titan p1p1

Then pick 2 was between sorin's vengence (I love this card so much)
and Gideon's lawkeepr.

Since SV is much better than the lawkeeper, would you commit to black/white just to get the two monsters?

lawkeeper is the best common in the whole set, and we have a chance to cut white harder, i would just go for white but i dont know very much

The WB = bad is pretty overblown, it pairs fine just a couple cards are hard to play in the same deck, e.g. Armored warhorse and sorin's thirst. So just be aware of that and it should go fine, early in your drafting career worrying about power level is probably more productive than oh noes WB is bad!

In the context of your pick more about your first round picks matter, if I was monowhite the lawkeeper seems like a good continuation.
