For the record, Selkie Hedge-Mage is unreal good. As is Sun Droplet.

cheap cards that are good and not in the list

mogg war marshal
gempalm incinerator
goblin matron
goblin ringleader (5-7)

those should replace all of the 1 and 2 ofs in your list, with the exception of Goblin Chieftain which should go to 4x

without the expensive cards something like this is ok
4Warchief
4Matron
4Ringleader
4War Marshal
4Chieftain
4Incinerator
4Fanatic
3Siege Gang(though he's meh without Lackey)
8slots I'm not sure what is best
21Mountains(Wasteland, Rishadan Port are very good in the deck but expensive)

ty, i'll buy some of these cards but my deck is of red and black goblins, and all that cards are reds, and i don't want 21 mountains because I add swamps too so I can't add all the cards you said

absolutely mindboggling play in the 5k semis

jund vs eldrazi green

jund has thrinax, leech and bloodbraid
green has beast token, nissa's chosen, llanowar, noble hierarch, archdruid and ant queen with no cards in hand

jund 11, green 14

the eldrazi player attacks with ant queen ... lolz which gets double blocked by bloodbraid and thrinax and dies horribly lol even forgets to make an ant

lol in the other semi, the jund player untaps the wrong 2lands with garruk and couldn't cast blightning(he was basically ****ed anyway but that didn't help any)
these 5ks are good for lols

My favorite part is that when I argue that the decks from these tournaments aren't necessarily optimal, people respond by telling me that they won a 5k.

kyleb,

That Scapeshift list is a mess IMO.

Yeah it's not very good given the metagame. It's essentially 3 cards off of Kowal's MD from the DE on MODO and a few SB changes, but I made a few changes and it performed well yesterday. Just lost to turn 1 Deus of Calamity in 3 games and turn 1 Blood Moon in another. Didn't know people still played AIR.

Why must you play BR Goblins? Mono Red would be much better.

So uh I'm looking to start playing. I only played little, probably don't even know all the rules anymore. I always enjoyed building whacky decks and played Standard only.
What's the Standard metagame these days, any must read sites, is there a difference between standard online/offline?

Basically I'll look at the current standard decks, browse the cards in standard a bit and buy what I concider a fun deck and just start playing.

Would also like a budget beatdown deck recommendation because I might want to start with that to see if I like the software etc.

standard right now is

Jund 35% of the field, half the top decks basically
UWR control
Mono-Red
are the big 3

Grixis control
assorted mid-range decks that are just bad Jund
fill out most of the rest

Mono-red is good and should be pretty cheap online

Thx, am I correct in assuming standard for MTG Online is:
Shards of Alara - first block
Conflux - first block
Alara Reborn - first block
Magic 2010 - core set i guess
Zendikar - first set; second block

With Worldwake and Rise of the Eldrazi being rotated in next month/April, are they released at the same time online/offline?
Magic: The gathering Online Quote

Yes, that is "Standard." However, sets on MTGO are released weeks (even months) after the paper cards are released.

Any thoughts on White Weenie in extended?

Heres a list from magic league:

WWb
top4 - Wichtelman
Main Deck Sideboard
4 Arid Mesa
4 Marsh Flats
4 Godless Shrine
12 Plains
4 Steppe Lynx
4 Figure of Destiny
4 Samurai of the Pale Curtain
4 Knight of Meadowgrain
4 Soltari Priest
4 Aven Mindcensor
4 Honor of the Pure
4 Umezawa's Jitte
4 Spectral Procession

SB:
3 Extirpate
4 Paladin en-Vec
4 Angel's Grace
4 Bitter Ordeal

Im not sold on the black splash, blue for meddling + counters or green for tarmo or teeg could be good.

Angel's grace seems great vs scapeshift. Not sure on paladin in the board as the deck should already have a good red matchup...i think BFT might be better.

Jotun grunt/baneslayer/finks might be good out of the board...i could see finks coming in for the mindcensors vs monored.

Samurai and Pale curtain and aven mindcensor seem particularly good right now being good vs tezz/thopter etc.

Im either playing this or some bant midrange in the ptq this weekend.

Hi, used to play Magic quite alot with brother and friends, but never got into it too seriously. It seems like fun, and I was wondering if there is anyway to play it online for free?

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but itsn't Angel's Grace only an uncounterable Lapse of Certainty against Scapeshift? Can't the scapeshift player put the other guy to 1 then just play a mountain next turn?
Magic: The gathering Online Quote
01-04-2010 , 07:54 PM
Yes, but they have to have a mountain (the deck only runs ~10). And Scapeshift often goes off the turn before they die.

That said, Bitter Ordeal is terrible and this deck probably is, too.
