Rudy from Alpha Investments is talking about how slowly the paper cardboard is dying. Blame Hasbro.

I mean people literally cant play paper right now and its also 2020. To some degree that's to be expected as people use these 'computers' to play games and since there is a literal zombie-pocalyse of bullshit going down in the real world.

There is no reason someone would want to play paper magic except for casual games with your buddies

I sold off a lot in March thinking prices would tank. Turns out that liquidity is a hell of a thing.

Are there other trading card games online where you can make money trading cards? I am trying to start trading on mtgo, but I get disconnected all the time. The problem is probably on my end, it's a mobile connection and not very stable. It works alright for Hearthstone though.

How's the new set?

The new set is pretty cool and a lot of high power cards have rotated or been banned. I'm sure in a couple weeks the meta will be solved and getting unfun again, but right now is the best time to play. They have been slowly kneecapping ramp which was direly needed. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a wynota or similar meta. The medium/situational level cards haven't had any breathing space for some time so hopefully things will hold up. There are a lot of cool mechanics that haven't had much time to shine.

i used to play mtg and back then it was a very bright game with all those blue green madness / monoblack control / goblin aggro etc Unfortunately due to poker obligations i barely had time to play again

do you think if i get my hands into it again i can make 1-2k as side income playing like 40hrs/month I kinda miss the game but not able to make money isnt very appealing to be honest. Never played the online version but i am talking about this one now

Also do you think mtg is kinda solved by now? I would expect in 2020 to be closed to solved not considering meta etc

Now there's a new tcg that is trying to rival Magic. Their booster box was worth about $100 a few months ago. Today that same booster box is worth $1,000. Called Flesh and Blood

A post by someone on Amazon wrote this

Quote:
Yes. All original print boxes range between $800-$1200. Unless it is a secondary seller, Amazon will likely only have the unlimited boxes.
.

Alpha sets are out of print and go for between $800 and $1200 per booster box. The next set is the Unlimited print run. So this is 1993 Magic: The Gathering all over again!

I haven't played magic in a few years, but isn't there a game that's supposed to replace mtg that comes along every year or so? I'm thinking of Hearthstone, Artifact, Hex,...etc

There are certainly better designed card games out there than magic, but it seems like mtg is "good enough" with enough in-built familiarity that it will be hard to dethrone it as the king tcg.

My guess is that even though Hasbro is a shtty company, once Rona stops, we'll see a lot more people come back to stores. For the highest competitive level, online might be fine, but the vast majority of magic sales are still from people playing with their friends at home or in a commander circle at an LGS.

It's very possible that rotating tournaments in paper die out slowly though.

I guess put another way, I wouldn't be surprised if paper magic slowly dies out, but I think if that happens, its incredibly unlikely to be replaced by another paper tcg/ccg.

Hi cookie let me know if you’re ever bored and want to play some standard. I don’t play much mtg arena but still enough to be a helpful sparring partner in standard.

Edit: my involvement In The game is now zero except I spendtwo- three days a month grinding standard on arena until I get to mythic for fun/ cheap nostalgia.

Thanks for the offer.

What deck do you like for standard at the moment?

You ought to give the qualifier weekend a go, if you are qualified, when it is standard, it's up to 9 rounds per day, but depending on your deck it can be jammed in 4-6 hours (or less, you are kicked at 3 losses) because it is league play.

I ended 8-7 for the tournament, I got to beat Seth Manfield it a pretty insane fashion Elves vs UW control in a 50 minutes BO3.
I lost to Marcie Cavalho and Reid Duke, I don't think I played any other MPL players.

So, I work on weekends. I havenÂ’t really thought about it but do Both day 1 and day 2qualifiers ( the online arena ones) allow you to pick what time you play?

In standard I think Sultai Ultimatum is the most powerful deck along with 4-5 tier 1 decks that are all close to equally good. ItÂ’s the deck I enjoy playing the most , and I will probably just play that until strixhaven comes out.

Beating Seth manfield counts as a brag. I was playing in a Grand Prix in high school where I was 5-2 on day 1 and got paired up against Mike Turian who had the highest dci rating in the world at the time. I lost 2-1 in a match that was insane and lasted past time and failed to make day 2 . Anyway good luck in future tournies.

Short answer yes, but day 2 can become tricky if too few players left, also timezones.
