Got my Arena invite a couple days ago and it seems things are business as usual for Wizards: an amazing game on an atrocious client.

History of Benalia is busted. I've been messing around with White Weenie and the deck seems okay despite HoB being the only good card in the deck.

Karn seems super busted. Four mana draw two and heal a bunch is pretty much the worst case scenario.

I'm really enjoying Magic Arena. Understand very well that it's beta, but I really like where it's headed. Lots they can get wrong but I think they have a good foundation.

yeah. love the faster games. economy seems alright but might be hard to f2p several decks in a reasonable time

I played about 30 games and gave up.

The game is really ugly looking and artistic choices feel plain wrong :

-awfull overall graphics, looks like a 15 year old game with cheap animations and effects, flash board,UI graphic chart that doesn't fit with the magic chart.
-worst visibility for a card game ever, that perspective view is really bad and it's hard to recognize what cards are at a glance (especially lands from enemy and any greyed land).
-game looks one of the most expansive tgc out there,f2p looks dead to me and packs prices are ridiculous (even with bulk offer it's like 90 packs for 100$,packs contain 8 cards? pity timer of 30 cards ).

that's just the super obvious.
I know this is closed beta for now but a lot of these complain points are not gonna change much going forward.
They are not gonna change the board perspective or redo the overall graphics (they will prolly change the terrible looking buttons but I wouldn't hold my breath they change the font style).

Really had high hopes for this game but I think wizards just doesn't know how to make video games.
There are even people in the forums praising the graphics!
They must play paper magic and use a computer for mails only

Apart of that I like the game itself(the rules) and will give it another try when development is further on.

Now that I actually live in a densely populated area I might give paper Magic a proper try. By any chance does anyone here play at Kingslayer Games in Orange County?
If you are getting back into paper magic, take a look at the challenger decks they just released. They are standard legal decks and they are, by light years, the most competitive decks ever directly from WOTC. A couple of them are only a few cards off from optimal. They can be played out of the box as is and be competitive at an FNM easily.

the time commitment to playing competitive paper magic is always what kills it for me. you are investing 5+ hours for a four round tournament

the challenger decks are in an incredible way to get back into standard though especially if you can find the red one near msrp, just add a few more hazorets and some non-mythics optimize the rest. black green and white blue are also real archetypes if red isn't your favorite

MTGO comp leagues are really good time-wise.

I think out of the challenger decks, the white/blue is by far the best out of box. The remaining decks need quite expensive upgrades to become close to the tier 1 version. Hazoret is the best value though.

are you talking about GPs or FNMs? either case the time isnt bad at all, if its a GP, it makes sens it will take a day to move forward.

FNMs are like 3-4hrs, wat else to d friday night?

While I have no idea why someone would voluntarily put Gaea's Blessing into a (limited) deck, they do still get to return a creature before the graveyard gets shuffled back in right? It hurts if this was the first trigger on the saga but if it was the 2nd trigger then it's not really detrimental at all.

Sorry for the potato quality, but anyone feel like sharing some thoughts on this Dominaria sealed pool?

I haven't played any dominaria limited yet but from what I've read it sounds like artifcat/enchantment removal is more maindeckable than usual, so i'll probably cut some low end creature for some.

I might cut the Guardians/Mesa Unicorn or play heavier black than white, but it seems reasonable. Nothing obviously incorrect.

I take it back. Arena's a lot of fun. The client is terrible (of course) but the game is good enough to make up for it. I miss sideboards but hopefully proper matches are in the future.

white cut for black makes sense.

upon further inspection stronghold enforcer is pretty good, better than most of the white cards

why did arena get rid of the daily rewards past 4 wins? even just a random common/uncommon was nice to move the vault along now it feels like theres no reason to keep playing
